I know this was 2 years ago but I was freakin out about even touching my bags/jars sense it's my first time lol I'm definitely shaking them up in the morning. I wish I could find an irl myco community where I'm at in the mitten. I'm just starting out and live in a small town and idk anyone to talk to and share ideas/ask questions and just chill and talk/grow or whatever lol. Turn your bag on its head. Then, inoculate with a syringe. Gravity will take it from there. Also, try not to touch/tamper your bag filter on a crush up session. Work around it to keep it clean and clear. This will avoid possible contamination and clogging.

Hi! I was having trouble with my mono tubs and I was doing the exact same tech. I think my coco coir fiber wasn't conducive to a good environment so I started using the echo stuff for reptile cages. I went from agar isolation, to LC, to 10lb blocks, just waiting for 3 bins now :) thanks for the info!

Is it possible to break and shake it too much to the point where the clumps of mycelium are destroyed ? I wish I’d watched this sooner as I think I may have done it a little too hard as I think I might’ve completely destroyed the climbs of mycelium I broke off the partly colonised bit 😭

The bag I have is soil and fertilizer and the bottom is seeds and when my mycelium was about 30 percent I mixed the seeds and the soils together and idk if I did anything wrong please give tips 😭

I feel like the injection port should be closer to the middle for spore syringes. Maybe it doesn't matter. If this bags are sealed and sterilized did you cut them open to use Agar and reseal?

Yes. You have to cut them open to add agar. And the injection port should be in the middle of the grain.

Innoculated a little over two weeks ago. I used the same spawn bags and spore syringes that I've used in the past. Temperature between 76-80 in my terrarium. Not a trace of mycellium anywhere. What do you think happened? No any other colors in the bag either, kept a super sterile environment the whole time.

The spores never germinated or they couldn’t find each other. Give the bag a light mix and reset it. Sometimes that will activate it.

You could put a small heater in a room and heat the room. doesn’t have to be too warm but 62 is pretty cold and they would grow pretty slow. Thank you.

Do you have a small boiler room or closet? Sounds stupid, but my house is the same, very cold. I ordered little temp and humidity gauges for my mono tubs and I put one of the extras in my boiler room and watched it for a couple of days. Came to find it stays nice and warm in there and right around the right temps. I put mine in a couple 6qt bins with air holes covered in micropore tape in there. Ever since then my bags have been growing much better! It’s been almost 2 weeks and they’re at about 10%. I plan to mix them in a couple more days. Anyways, maybe check out your boiler room! Otherwise I wouldn’t waste time with an incubator or heating mats. I tried that for a while and it didn’t seem to work for me. Otherwise I would 2nd boomer by designating even a little grow closet and get a space heater with thermostat. Keep it away from anything flammable of course, and run it just in the closet while they colonize. Because it’s a small space it shouldn’t be too expensive or anything.

Try to keep the bags at 70F+. I had mine in the basement in the 60s for a week and saw no growth at all. Soon after moving it to 73-77F, I started seeing growth. In terms of light, I think some research has been done in this area but it's been a while since I've checked. The TL;DR that I remember is that the bags don't need light...some light won't hurt, but you don't want them to be in constant light.

You can open the bag from the top and squirt some spores from the top. Then seal it back up.

How long did it take for your MSS to start colonizing?

I usually start to see growth on agar in about 5 to 7 days. Then, when you inoculate the spawn bag with the MMS agar. I usually start to see growth in the spawn bag in about 2 days. Agar to grain is much faster than spore to grain. Hope this helps.

According to Roger Rabbit it needs low level light, not complete darkness, to help promote pinning after it's spawned to sub.

I have a few questions... I should be receiving my spawn bags in the mail in a few days. They're just like these with the self-healing injection port and filter patch on the top. I already have my spore syringe and my first question is: after inoculating a spawn bag (I watched your video on inoculating spawn bags), can I put it in a clean cardboard box so that it will be in the dark and away from any airflow? My second question is: I bought a portable digital ceramic heater (750/1500 watts) the other day. It has an adjustable thermostat and I plan on keeping it around 78 degrees as the spawn bag colonizes but how far away should I keep the heater from the box (if it's okay to keep the bag in a box)?

Yeah you can keep them in a cardboard box and just heat the air around the bags. I would say heat the room not the bags. Maybe leave the heater around 70. That should be sufficient for the mushrooms. They get hotter inside the bag as they colonize.

@@BoomerShroomer before I went to bed last night I opened the box back up (I took the same precautions again like turning off the A/C, wearing a mask, wearing disposable gloves that were sanitized) and I moved the bags to the back of the box so that the top halves are leaning up against the inside wall of the box, with the filters facing away from the inside wall, of course. I'm new to this and am still learning so I didn't want to mess with the bags any more than that for the time being. I did check for holes when the bags arrived and everything looked good. When they're at least 10-20% colonized I'll mix them to speed up the growth. Wish me luck!

You should inquire with the company you're buying from. I'm not sure if you're able to do a break n shake on an all in one bag because you don't want to mix in any substrate to the grains yet. It seems risky.
