EXCELLENT. I really enjoy colour mixing videos and browns was something I needed help with. I would enjoy you doing another one featuring greys and helping me to understand what is a warm grey, what is a cool grey. Thank you.

With every year ( sometimes month) i am less able to paint but today i am refreshing mixtures . My teenage great granddaughter wants to learn so i think it would be fun for her to mix greens, browns, blacks and violets...and learn something about brushes.

You explaining that colors have an underlying bias in them explains why I was getting the wrong hue when I mixed two (or more) colors together. None of the color theory classes I took or color mixing videos I had watched ever mentioned that, other than mentioning that mixing a black with different yellows produces various hues of green because most black pigments have some blue pigments in them. The lightbulb in my brain lit up and I finally understand! I can’t thank you enough. I’m saving this video so I can watch it again, and again, if necessary. ♥️

Oh thanks to your video, I discover the type of sienna brown I wanted with using red, orange and ultramarine blue. This was very helpful, I didn't have to go out to buy more tubes and getting unsatisfied with the results.

When you realize that orange is the most prevalent color if you count brown as orange. Not sure if I could include browns, such as Sienna or Umber in my palette. On the one hand, it's been told that I should mix my own browns and blacks from primary colors; but on the other hand, my impatient self and my experience with mixing browns using a _brush_ in acrylic paint make me want to use browns just to make it easier.

👏👏👏 Can i ask a favor? How can i get beige color? Like the color of sand. I always fail the mix when painting beaches. Thanks
@carmellahill58495 жыл бұрын
I hope you don’t mind if I tell you my experience trying to achieve this. The only color that closely resembles beige is a Buff Titanium which is an unbleached white. As far as I know, Daniel Smith and Qor are the only two companies that carry this signature color. That being said, I have used a diluted yellow ochre mixed with white to achieve a very reasonable facsimile. Or....white and Naples Yellow...something very subdued. You might have another color in mind to mix with but you always have to use white to tone it down.
@rachelm75255 жыл бұрын
Most people I've watched seem to use a weak Yellow Ochre for sand. I know. Sand isn't yellow, but it seems to work. 🙂

Ah, yes! So using only primarys brings the whole painting together, right? I love brown, actually, and I would love to create a monochrome/aged/sepia/like an old photograph look, but I have NO idea how to do that!! 😄
@moonmagnolia710 ай бұрын
1. Change your color photo to a monochromatic sepia photo. 2. Mix up a huge pile of brown in the midrange hue of sepia that you like. Then mix up a range of lighter tints by adding a nuetral white to some of it and a range of shades by adding a neutral black to some of it. 3. Use the sepia image as your value map or guide. 4. Enjoy the process.

Isn't a brown basically a grey? A towned down version of a color.
@dynomax1015 жыл бұрын
Overly complex in some ways, and not complex enough in others. You know very little about umbers, yet you're giving instructions about browns. While your video is good and informative, a lot of artist will get confused. You've almost confused me, and I've loved mixing and using browns for decades. The main reason I'm being so harsh is because of something I've mentioned to you before: CLEAN YOUR COLORS! The state of your palette is deplorable for a tutorial. This is like trying to teach how to cook an omelet by using frying pans filled with pasta. Plus browns can be beautiful; calling them dirty is working against using them.
