DIYer, painted professionally but never did much drywall till now I need to refinish our bathroom as the texture is rough. I was thinking about retexturing but your videos are giving me confidence to try skim coat and just have smooth walls. But first to fix uneveness and balance out the texture height I am going to try to roll on mud knockdown texture. Hope I can find one of those lexan knockdown tools and a sea sponge roller / handheld tomorrow your videos have saved me from getting discouraged. Day 2 and I'm still trying to fix uneven joints. Learning a lot, one smaller bathroom probably going to take me a week but will have taught me so much. Drywall is hard thank you for sharing your knowledge, tips and tricks! Next time I feel like if I apply for another painting job I can add I watched all Paul Pecks Drywalltube videos to my resume lol!!

Lady diy, glad to watch video, for sure this is a job I’ll need to find an experienced contractor for. Knowing what the correct materials are is g2 help me cull an inferior contractor. That is #1 right? It’s an attached garage, we always have heavy dust, thinking over time and using a Milwaukee leaf blower to keep dust out of the garage has caused a couple long 6:59 tape seams to separate. Thanks for great info

Is hot mud better for the 1st coat than regular pre-mixed (green/blue) joint compound for these types of repairs? I have a lot of seams to do and I have time to let it dry and don't feel like mixing hot mud 10x.

So when you have a real popcorn type ceiling not knockdown we’ll it’s kinda like knockdown was sprayed but never knocked down so you sand enough of the knockdown to make it flat as possible to be able to get a 6” knife in there ?

Im a painter,an of course i have to do patch work w/mud but not a whole lot of Drywall experience...Is it ok to 'stir' around an entire bucket of mud before i use it? Or should i only stir smaller amounts that i will use that day w/a cordless drill because stirring it somehow changes the mud if its left in the bucket ? I didnt know if once i started mixing the mud around it must be used, because when you open a bucket its harder an thicker...

So what do you recommend to use for the heavy popcorn texture? On new drywall...first do tape joints with all purpose then mix popcorn with mud and use a hopper? For a couple coats...same all purpose mud then prime n paint? I have herd of popcorn you mix in paint but now im thinking that it wouldnt be heavy enough just using it in the paint...cool man your helping already! Lol 😆 but the customer wants as much sound proofing as possible and for it to match the other units...i personally dislike popcorn and love your knockdown technique with the sand. Smart and no hopper needed! I could just mix popcorn in the mud and skim it on the ceiling..

Do you set a timer or just let the mud's consistency remind you to stop and go back to clean out your bucket? I like hot mud but I've goofed a time or two and gone back to have mud hardened on the tools and in the bucket which can mean just throwing the bucket out is it is too hard to chip out. Also, one tip I got from another pro drywaller that I like is always using two screws, instead of one, about 2" apart to minimize/eliminate ceiling screw pops but especially when doing any repairs to a screw pop as you know the area has had movement and needs more support that the one screw (assuming it wasn't just over driven). I've done this for the handful of new and repair drywall work I've done for us and family. May be overkill but only takes another second which is worth it to me for the extra insurance and confidence that it won't have issues again.
