Honestly , it is a lot like Sonar Platinum was. I see a few new things. But it almost looks like a replacement since Gibson killed the real Sonar. I am very torn between this and Cubase

I love having in-depth videos like this. They are super helpful, and I don't need to pay for a special course just to learn how to use the DAW. BTW, Studio One is may appear simple on the surface, but it has layers of complexity. Yet, it never feels cumbersome or daunting. It is extremely user-friendly, and that is what won me over beyond any other DAW. I particularly love the drag-n-drop automated features built in to Studio One like some of the stuff you outlined in this video. More please! Keep it up. Thank you.

This video was amazing! As a remote session drummer, a lot of times clients just want stems, but I always send them a rough mix first, and the whole mixing top down from the drum bus has been eye opening to say the least! And, the parallel compression of the whole kit at once instead of by each track was the icing on the cake! Thanks for sharing your knowledge, Joe!

Hey Joe, most people use a 2-bus/mixbus channel before the Main out and do all the main bus processing there, with the individual buses going to that. The Main is then reserved for utility type plugs (meters, calibration, referencing, etc). But then I most often see the FX sends routed directly to the Main Out. Wouldn't you want your FX channels to also hit the 2-bus comps/EQ for control/cohesion/glue etc.In tutorials with the pros (including you), I always see the FX going straight to the Main out. Why is that?
@presonus4 жыл бұрын
The Main Out IS the mix bus. There's no need for an extra bus in between. Everything is getting routed through that final stereo bus on the far right named Main Out. So I'm getting all the 2-bus goodness you're talking about without having to do an extra step. - Joe Gilder
@TimmSpinn4 жыл бұрын
@@presonus I guess it wasn't a question of why you, personally, do it, but why a majority of other pros don't bus process their sends. I suppose I'm asking the wrong person, but it's in line with this video's subject. The biggies for using a mixbus channel are 1. Using a reference plugin like Sample Magic AB. Don't want to bus process your ref tracks. 2. A place for plugs like Sonarworks, metering, Audient MixChecker, etc. 3. In S1, there is a MixFX limit of 1 on the Main Out. I use both CTC-1 and Softube Tape via MixFX, so I need a 2nd main bus to run both of those. Anyway... Love your videos! And you have a great voice too, BTW!

Hey! Very useful I've been mixing with studio one for years and I still learned a couple of new things from this video. When it comes to plugin selecting or plugin dragging, I don't even use my mouse anymore to select any of my most used plugins cause I use macros. It would've been very handy to be mentioned on the video too cause it changed my life. Once I setup my macros now if I wanna open a EQ on a channel I just hit 'shit + command + E' and a new Pro-Q3 comes out, 'shit + command + S and a Saturn' comes out. All my most used plugins at one hit of my left hand and it made me save hours.

Thanks. I learned a lot. I'd already spent half a day trying to figure out something at the top of each channel that I had not seen before and wondered what it was. I got real confused. But then you explained the "Audio Device Controls" setting and it became crystal clear. And a question about how to "clear" or reset the settings which Studio One sends to the StudioLive series 3 mixer for the Fat channel. It kept changing the mixers settings and then I'd have to reset them manually; which took a while. There's got to be an easier way to handle that. Thx.

Hi Joe and Gregor! Thanks so much for all the info. You guys are great! Wondering if you could cover a couple of things: Effects chain to use on the Main out channel when the mix is a single and not going into a project, and when it is! Also, East West has come out with Spaces II. Could you cover The proper FX/Bus chains for creating a surround effect for multiple input channels? I've set it up a couple of ways, but don't completely understand the FX channel vs the Bus channel vs AUX channel. Also, should I create separate mix-downs for stereo and surround? Thanks a million!

I just installed a DEMO. For the most part I am quite impressed with what Personus have done. They did in a short time what STAINBERG had to do in so many years. I personally come from Ableton products and still one the fence if I want to get SO license. Is it possible to change specific colors or apply skins ? I watch this video and I really have problem reading the fonts. I also wish there is a much bigger selection of colors. This looks really poor since on average the operating system can use palette of several millions, why have so few colors (and they are so ugly) ? I wish there is a simple tool to create custom colors and set up own palette and be able to select from at least 128 or more. Lots of GUI have this (stupid) trend of using gray fonts on dark gray background and this makes things really hard to read. More contrast would really help.

I follow you from Bahrain. My name is Khaled Khalifa and I benefit from the definition and useful information you provide, but there are some episodes that do not have English subtitles printed on the video of the episode, as this helps a lot in translating the explanation into Arabic, so please kindly upload the translation in English to the rest of the videos, such as this important video, which has no subtitles.
