I had already replaced mine the gel pads, in terms of comfort im fine already, I’ll try to add foam inside nice advice. Another thing I do is wear ear plugs as a second protection. I put the phones on maximum volume so I can still hear other stuff well but really helps blocking much better the shot sound

If I try to fill the voids in the housings, I am tempted to use foam earplugs pieces instead of generic closed cell foam sheets.
@TheWarriorSolution4 жыл бұрын
I think the foam earplugs is a great option since they would fill up all the small spaces a lot easier than the closed cell foam that I used.

I watched a video of a lady using some foam from a yoga mat. She said it ended up helping significantly on keeping loud noises out.

I wonder if spray foam would work. It's non-conductive so I don't think it would effect the wiring and circuitry inside.
@robertbyrnes70754 жыл бұрын
I was wondering the same. Maybe you could cover the internals with plastic wrap (somewhat vacuum sealed to stick inside) the fill the void with low expansion Great Stuff.

Love the idea of insulating the inside. Makes me wonder why the manufacturer didn’t do it, seems like it would be so cheap. The gel is also a great upgrade; but that headband strap...that thing just looks ridiculous. I appreciate the idea, nothing against anyone doing it, but it looks majorly rigged, almost like you found a piece of scrap bubble wrap around the house and stuck it under the headband. I think if you’re going to invest all that money into upgrading cheap ear pros, you’re probably better off just buying some high quality ones from the start.

Tactical ear pro is not meant to provide silence only to lower the volume... what you want are those thick bright yellow earmuffs?
@haosheng122 жыл бұрын
As far as I know, the more expensive active ear pro like Peltor Comtacs and MSA Sordins don't have any foam packed in the cups either. This might be for keeping the muffs cool for the wearer or to keep moisture from collecting on the foam and damaging the electronics or getting crusty and leading to higher likelyhood of developing an ear infection. Perhaps the foam affects how the sound bounces off the cups and changes the frequency response and reduces the ability to tell direction when playing back from the microphones. These are all just guesses but until people find and talk about active ear muffs with foam-packed cups, these are what most people will stick with.

Yes these will work fine for a multitude of applications. I use them for the range, but also at work when the equipment gets really loud. They amplify safe noises and block out the rest. I would invest in those noisefighter gel cups. They have cutouts for safety glasses and feel so comfortable. You can also open the ears and stuff them with more packing to block more outside noise. I saw a lady use some foam from her old yoga mat.

I would be very surprised if they didn't. Noise Fighters has done a great job with the fitment and making their gel pads pretty universal across the board.

I'm kinda looking into buying electronic hearing protection. How does it compare to old fashion hearing protection? I work around jet engines all day and standard hearing protecting makes it impossible to hear anyone but doesn't truely get rid of all the loud noises.

@TheWarriorSolution4 жыл бұрын
I wore my headsets with the foam cups they come with for years. They work OKAY, but the gel cups are REALLY nice and definitely worth it if you wear muffs a lot. If you're only going to wear them occasionally, I wouldn't worry about upgrading right away.

Get them right away, they are 100% worth it. Not only are they SIGNIFICANTLY more comfortable, they greatly increase the noise reduction because you get a much better seal around your ears. Comparing my modified muffs (also stuffed with foam inside) with my fiances not yet modified muffs back to back is a drastic difference.

Looks like the gel flattens out too much. Seemed like you'd have to form it, first, to get a good fit?
@TheWarriorSolution4 жыл бұрын
The gel cups in this video are the ones I've been using actively for more than a year. That isn't how they look when they are new, and the only reason they looked so rough is that I tend to leave them in a hot car with my headset collapsed. Noise Fighters sent out a new set of gel cups after they saw this video. You can see what they look like when they are new if you watch my “Importance of ear and & eye protection video here kzbin.info/www/bejne/fqbQg4yeaNaVqtE

I wonder if you could use great stuff spray foam and work it into the free space and sand it down flat for a better fill.
@TheWarriorSolution3 жыл бұрын
That could be a great idea or a terrible one depending on how much foam you used... In theory, it should work great to fill in all the little spaces the closed cell foam couldn't, but that stuff expands like crazy and turns into a huge mess super fast.

Would this modification work on HL Impact Pro model earmuffs ?
@TheWarriorSolution4 жыл бұрын
I haven't messed with the Pro model, but I'm sure they are basically the same design so this should work just fine with them as well. I know the gel cups from Noise Fighters will work with them, as well as the IceVents. The ear cups most likely open the same way as the regular HL model featured in the video.

I wonder if you can use cotton instead of foam.
@TheWarriorSolution4 жыл бұрын
Worth a shot... I went with foam just because it's more dense than cotton.
@Dillwagon4 жыл бұрын
Closed cell foam would be better because it doesn’t absorb water. Cotton will absorb sweat and it will be hard to dry.

Are they cheap knockoffs?
@TheWarriorSolution Жыл бұрын
Nope, I bought them from an authorized dealer back around 2012ish. It's common for muffs in this price range to have similar issues.
@therecruitmain12583 жыл бұрын
Just a fair warning to those using these for the first time; make sure you turn the sound down a decent bit before the guns start going off... The first time I shot a handgun was during a class and I almost jumped out of my shoes because of how loud it was. Ended up hurrying to turn it down before starting to shoot. I definitely felt like a fool afterward but I had them up to make sure I could hear the instructor and ended up regretting turning them up as much as I did.. Also, it doesn't hurt to wear additional in-ear plugs underneath these since tinnitus is pretty annoying to live with (speaking from experience).
@Hairyniggaballs-g8i2 жыл бұрын
They’re meant to cut off all noise amplification when gunshots go off. I’ve never had that issue with mine, but I don’t have them on max volume.

Seems like a lot of money for $50 headphones, the accessories cost $20 more than the headphones themselves?
@TheWarriorSolution2 жыл бұрын
It's true, unfortunately. This isn't something I would recommend for people that only shoot occasionally. In my case, I had to wear hearing protection all day, every day, so making them as comfortable as possible was worth the cost for me. It most likely wont make financial sense for most people.
