They make arc rail adapters specifically for Howard leigh ear pro. You just pop off the existing arms and push on the rail adapters. No need to cut any wires.
@poortac55683 жыл бұрын
you would still have to cut apart the leather band to get the wire free. So you are destroying that part either way. I dont see why you would buy the “adapters” when you can slide the metal wire in the existing 3m piece. Seems like spending more on an unnecessary part. Thanks for watching 😀

Solid video, but I would like to point out that you DO NOT HAVE TO DREMEL (not yelling, just drawing attention. lol) the metal wire on the Howard Leights. The plastic tab that the metal wire slips into are clipped onto the ear pro with a simple plastic locking tab. You can use a flathead screwdriver (or simple makeshift prying tool of your choice) and pry up gently behind the black plastic near where it clicks into the OD green tab on the ear pro. It doesn't take a ton of effort, and it pops off and then you can rotate the black plastic piece to remove the metal wire, and then attach the 3M piece and click it right back onto the ear pro. For the audio wire, short of disassembling the actual ear pro, you do need to cut the head strap "leather" as you show in the video, however, and that definitely is the better way to go from what I can see. Great video! I love seeing modifications like this.

@Johnrigsby3 жыл бұрын
I will add, the boom mic goes into the 3mm jack and wont reach around to your mouth if you have them on such that its in the rear. Maybe there are couplers or extensions that would work to add the length required but they would need to be rigid. I dont know that it matters for the headset to be one way or the other but in this video description he describes putting the wire to the rear, which also means that 3mm jack to the rear. I assume so the wire wraps well around the back of the helmet. That wont work with this boom mic (and I personally found no other that would do) so I suggest routing the wire differently for purposes of this mic and mouting the headset with the 3mm jack in the front.

Looking to mount my Walker razor slims to my helmet, they utilize the same mounts as the Howard Leights from the looks of them. One thing I couldn’t tell from your video is whether the crimped portion of the mount arm that locks the headset in is faced the same on both. The way you slid the arm into the HL bracket rather than finding that sweet spot to get it in makes it seem that it doesn’t fully lock the headset to the arc rail mount.
@poortac55683 жыл бұрын
if does fit like a key (only one way to insert them), it may not have shown that well in the video. They do not lock in as well as the original HL, but they are still quite secure. @poortac55687 ай бұрын
I would get the peltor sport rangeguards over the howard leights. They fit better on the helmet, because they are smaller and have cutouts that allow them under the helmet edge as well as allow a proper cheek weld on your rifle. They also block a lot of the static/noise when transmitting on a radio. They seal much better to most peoples ears/head too. But they attach more or less the same way. Unfortunately, I havent found any cheap nvgs. Im looking to try out a lower spec (Bravo) PVS-14 soon though and will make a review, when I get them. I have a few newer videos on my current helmet setup if you are interested.
@alesito446910 ай бұрын
any advice on how to make them fit tighter so they can seal properly?
@poortac556810 ай бұрын
gel ear cups help, but if you have a strong/boney jaw bone, you may not get a good seal. For me, they were too low on my head when mounted on my helmet. Id suggest buying a set of Peltor Rangeguard Sports. They fit wayyyy better on the helmet and over my ears. Mainly because they are smaller and sit higher. Their NRR rating might be lower though, but I double up at the range anyway. I have a video on those as well, but they also work better with radios by blocking out transmission static/squealing.

would this work for Walkers Razor? want to get a longfri and not have to but Howards since I already own the Razors
@poortac55683 жыл бұрын
Ive heard that the wire size is the same. So in theory the peltor adapters will fit the Walker Razor. But since the Walkers are larger, I dont know if they would fit on the helmet itself (it might interfere with the helmet). If you had the higher cut maritime helmet, it probably would, but Im not sure with the standard high cut. I personally would just get a set of howard leights that you can chop up and keep the razors for regular use.

Yes it works exactly the same. I have walkers on my HHV

pop the black plastic arms off of the headset, then you can remove them from the wire, no cutting, then look where the flat spot is on the wire and make a similar flat spot on the new wire, put the black plastic ends on the new wire and now they won't fall off and you won't get stabbed in the head with the wires when you try and take your helmet off. you are welcome.

Question: BUBBA: why didn’t you just take off the Blk plastic clips off the Howard’s and not cut anything up?? Once you would have done that you do the same thing but you would still have old headset to use
@poortac55683 жыл бұрын
I was afraid the plastic would snap, making them unusable on a helmet or on the headband. The plastic feels brittle, so I didnt want to mess with it. That is what I did when I did the same things with Peltor Rangeguards ear pro. They are a lot easier to remove, without risk of snapping the plastic.

You know you don't have to cut the metal part right? With a little strength you can pop off the plastic adapter that goes from the metal arm to the ear pro ear cup. Then just rotate the plastic to remove from the metal arm.
@TreyMorgan-wn8dk5 ай бұрын
Also pro tip. Put the adapter on the helmet first before you put the ear cups on.

@@poortac5568 If you get a pair of needle nose you can pinch the snap tabs to remove the bracket then you can easily slide off the plastic part the metal bar goes into. I just don't understand that logic of cutting the metal headband to prevent breaking the headset 🙃 I just wonder how many people here destroyed their ear pro from watching this 😥

@@TreyMorgan-wn8dk you still run the risk of breaking those brittle tabs. Id rather break the headband wires, that Ill never use again 🤷♂️

You don’t need to cut the muffs off they pop off

true, but you can break the plastic that way. you have to destroy the headband anyway, so I played it safe.

how to mount video....oh, I did that off camera. ???
@poortac55683 жыл бұрын
The mount only attaches one way, it slides into the dovetail 🤷♂️
@americannationalist11103 жыл бұрын
Also you mounted them backwards. The mic Jack port is flipped towards the rear. It needs to be facing forward so you need to flip the cups to the other side but I’m sure you know that by now
@poortac55683 жыл бұрын
wrong, the mics face forward. the aux port should be in the rear. its all on their website. feel free to look.

Couldn’t you just pull the metal pieces out without cutting them off?
@poortac55682 жыл бұрын
you can, but there is a risk of cracking or messing up the plastic tabs, which make the entire headset unusable. Since you cant really reuse the metal wire, I cut it instead.
@camopirateАй бұрын
Wtf ? Why did you cut the wire Pop the mount off the ear cup and them rotate to remove plastic from wire. Now you can get a $15 cover for the headband and switch between helmet mount and headband. 3 years late but maybe it’ll save someone from the error
@poortac5568Ай бұрын
@@camopirate I didn’t want to risk breaking the plastic tab. I did do that with a set of peltors though, and put the Howard Leights on the Peltor headband.

There's a screw on the side to remove them without cutting lol also locks them like they were
@poortac55683 жыл бұрын
its not a screw, its a plastic tension piece. you can pop the piece off of it, but i tend to be over cautious and went the route where I knew I wouldnt snap off the plastic. Making it unusable.

@poortac55683 жыл бұрын
You could, but you risk breaking the plastic tabs on the ear pro. Id rather sacrifice the metal band that risk breaking the actual ear pro.
