Hi Paul great instruction video you motivated me to try same admire your support persistence. So I followed your instructions and have my 9010 in service mode. Upon boot it shows it is in service mode (for a few seconds), only thing is it boots windows right away without me pressing any function key. Anyway try to backup A30 bios but it shows error 26: the host cpu does not have read access to the target flash area. to enable read access for this operation you must modify the descriptor settings to give host access to this region. As I mentioned am in Service mode. I am using legacy bios settings, disabled secure boot and currently booting from Samsung SATA SSD drive. Any suggestion?

hello I have a Dell Optiplex 7010 mt, with a gtx 750 ti, and I want upgrade it, and I want know if is possible put 16gb of ram in 2x8 and put the NVMe SSD in one of the ports, because I am already using the blue one for the graphics card, so can I still do the NVMe thing? Which port do you recommend I use? There are 2 of 16 lines one white and one black.

it don't boot in the nvme in UEFI, only the boot sequence is "Onboard NIC(IPV4)" and "Onboard NIC(IPV6)", in the bios

I succesfully moded my Dell R7610 but driver needed to be placed not after oempcie file but AFTER LAST DXE FILE AT THAT SECTION!!!! But I have another question is it possible to add native FAT16 boot in UEFI mode on that PC? Because I need that for ESXi 8 to boot from NVME (windows 10 boots fine from other nvme) because after installation it creates 100mb UEFI partition in that ancient format and to boot from it I need create backup of it, delete that, and create in that place FAT32 partition and copy to that files from backup to that partition which can lead to errors in future. So I am asking if adding native support for FAT16 booting in UEFI mode is possible.

Hello I have Dell R7610 it is possible that mod will work for me? Bios actually have same 8+4 MB size is fully UEFI and is made by AMI (American Megatrends). And I also want to know if it is possible to select which nvme you booting from since I have windows 10 and ESXi on diffrent nvme drives? Also I don't know if that changes anything but I heard that thing has "partial support for nvme" which means it can boot certain nvme models but these are old, rare and not worth.

It’s possible, but as I don’t know that particular model I cannot say for sure. Manu people have used this modification for different models, but I cannot give you a definitive answer I’m afraid.

Ok thanks for help but you see I had before Dell R5500 which was completely legacy bios (I even asked you about that one under your other video about optiplex 3020) before and used clover for boot from NVME but now I upgraded and that garbage clover has weird issue that makes windows 10 boot entries missing randomly but ESXi boot entry is fine somehow and I am searching for alternatives. You maybe know some easy to set up bootloader that will do a job better?

Yep, it will work. Depends on what slots you have free what your maximum speed will be. But whatever speed you get it will be lots faster than SATA.

@@PaulieM Amazing, just thought since I would upgrade soon anyways I'll copy my drive to the NVMe SSD using Macrim and then when I upgrade I can just put the NVMe in the new pc (I've done that before and had no issues but can reset if it doesn't work). I've got my x16 slot used with my GPU and have 3 x1 slots. Seems the speeds might just be a bit faster but that's it. What would you think? A Gen 4 NVMe (futureproofing) is £55 and the PCIe 3.0 x1 adapter is £8 off amazon so it's cheap

It’s a problem lots of people have reported with Windows 11. People have worked around it by changing the BIOS in Windows 10. I cannot test the 11 situation as I don’t have access to those machines anymore.

Hi all, Figured out how to work this out, the Intel Management Engine Components from Dell has to be the latest one which works for windows 11 and also you have to uninstall antivirus plus disble boot and bios protection in windows defender. than it will work

You didn’t boot in UEFI mode. Double check the blog post. You cannot boot in legacy bios mode when booting to NVMe.

You won't see it in the BIOS, but if you install Windows to the drive, it will boot from it no problem.

Follow the instructions carefully - you also need to modify the boot manager to actually boot from the NVMe - easy way to do that is just run the windows installer

If I boot under my Samsung 2.5 ssd it reads the nvme as a second hard drive and can read and write on it but if I unplug the 2.5 ssd it says no hard drive found on startup. Windows 10 or 11 installer should offer the NVMe drive. You can also modify the boot manager in the bios to point at the NVMe but you won’t have anything to point it at if it’s empty.

Try converting the partition table to GPT instead of using MBR as I've been told it doesn't work. As to why, I have no idea, but hopefully that helps. 🙂

I only ever did it on 64-Bit Systems. But a few people have had this problem. Others have also been able to skip this step. I don’t know why this happens to some people.

@@Fran-yg4jp You really have to read the instructions carefully. Modifying the BIOS is just the first step. You MUST boot in UEFI mode and then install an operating system on to it. It won't appear in the BIOS until the Windows boot manager has written to it.

These ones cannot, but there are other tools that can be used that do the same job under Linux. If you check out this guide I wrote for a HP Machine: www.tachytelic.net/2022/01/hp-compaq-8300-nvme/ This does the same thing but using Linux tools. You could apply to same technique this way. You can also use the intel tools from a DOS command line from a bootable USB stick. So it can be done without Windows.

@@PaulieM Intel Manage Engine Bios Extensions. It's basically a way of remote manage the computer (turn on/off, reset, see the screen, control mouse/keyboard). It works similar to what IDRAC does on Dell Servers. It usually comes with a sticker inside the computer case saying INTEL AMT or ME DISABLE. However it's set in bios, when you buy a new Dell motherboard on first startup it asks you to enter the TAG Number and the ME Configuration.

YOU SIR - are amazing. I am gonna have to go back through this again - and make sure I have all the tools. This is something that I have wanted to do for a LONG TIME and told by DELL Support it is not possible. Now you should make a video of how to get rid of that damned DELL LOGO. (I read through many posts on that - and all of them mention service mode). I never could get in to Service Mode - as DELL Support said 'not possible' except by Dell Service Personnel. 🤬 Do you know what capabilities the PCI slots hold? I have an old ASUS 4-NVME card I never could use in another system - as bifurcation was not supported there.

Actually depends on the CPU. If it’s an i5 or higher then you’ll get full PCI 3 speeds. I an i3 it tops out around 1500mb/second. Good luck with the upgrade, follow the process carefully and you’ll be done in no time.

hola, probé todas las formas para actualizar mi bios y es imposible, con el ejecutable de la pagina oficial solo se reinicia y vuelve al sistema operativo y con freedos se prepara para instalar y luego reinicia y vuelve al sistema operativo. serias tan amable amable de pasarme el backup BIN de tu bios. la voy a cargar con un grabador spi, es lo unico que se me ocurre saludos!

​@@PaulieM aun no pude, por la sencilla razón que no puedo actualizar mi bios, la tengo en A14 y no puedo actualizara a A29, la pc solo se reinicia y no hace la actualización

@@PaulieM ya intente eso pero no me funciono. Por eso te pedia el backup bin por que tengo la posibilidad de grabar la spi fisica con in grabador de memorias. Saludos!

@@oscarrocha4146 The problem with your idea is that the backup.bin is specific to each machine (it contains the Network Card Mac Address, the Service Tag and various bits of other information for that machine).

I have followed the steps very carefully but I can't get my 7010 to boot from nvme the modified bios injected perfectly windows sees the nvme but (can't install in the location) any help

I managed to install a clean version of windows in uefi mode after a few tries
