Im trying to install my Samsung SSD 980 NVMe M.2 SSD (adapted) in a PCI-e Card. About to try this same Crazy Upgrade cause if it Works,,, it should be faster than the SSD i currently have running on SATA? But what about a Bios Update for my DELL Optiplex 790 with an i3 ? Can you shoot me the steps? Dell website has this (((This is the latest Dell validated version of this driver O790-A22.exe | 5.58 MB)))

There is a common workaround for this and many vidz about it. You use a simple software called "clover" and make it boot from a USB drive, then from there it will recognize the NVME and you can boot windows from there. It's one extra step and you have to permanently install a USB drive (usually internally, ideally), but it can be done and works well.

Leave a USB DOM to make a 2 stage bootloader.. the BIOS loads first bootloader (grub2, refind) then chainload the windows boot manager from there
@MsHojat2 жыл бұрын
Woah I didn't know that was possible. Sounds messy and maybe a good way to eventually somehow accidentally corrupt an OS. So you'd have GRUB on an older drive, which then boots to windows on the new NVMe drive?

@@MsHojat yes.. I have done that to to boot a VM into unsupported bootable media (a lot of VM doesn't support USB booting)

bro, Ive been considering the same upgrade to a dell 9020 optiplex..It can be done but requires using a different bootmanager that will recognize the nvme drive..example would be to use Clover which Will recognize nvme...I have both windows 10 and mac catalina on my dell...so I use clover anyway and boot from there... should work fine on a hackentosh build and I dont see why windows would not show and boot from clover on nvme..

@@AJaytheCEO dId you ever try clover? thinking of buying an nvme and pcie adapter and trying to use clover to see if I can figure it out. will mainly try to use Linux. In the past, I had bought a revodrive x2 (very costly at the time) which was AHCI pcie w/a max of 700MBps and it worked well just until its warranty was about up (which I was able to recoop the entire cost due to an extended warranty I had on it, thankfully. My current mobo is a 990FX which has served me well and I wanted to try to use clover since I've seen a custom bios someone created, but I'd imagine clover would be a much safer risk.
