Incredibly useful discussion - mostly in terms of life in various ports, rather than exiting US - many thanks to your delightful panelists. I am now subscribed, and will be looking into your website. Of course ‘inflation everywhere’ is frightening to us retirees . . . so sad to hear it’s alive and well in Spain. But so nice to hear of their free public transport for pensioners current response ❤

Jennifer, this "workshop" has some value, but you might want to change the title. I didn't see much about "How to Move out of the US." I feel I could write a treatise here, but I've already spent more than one hour watching your video and reading the comments below, so I'll keep this as short as possible. While Ted actually did deliver some useful information, he did, as one commenter pointed out, kinda get into political talk that was unnecessary. Disclaimer: I haven't watched other IL YT videos and the things I say here may have been covered elsewhere. So, Ted, in large part, wasted our time. It is fair to say, Suzan delivered some useful info. The 2nd half of the workshop was interesting in that I always want to know the personal experiences of people who have left the U.S. and found a country their like/love. Again, helpful. But, I'd say that 90% of this YT video was not about "How to Move out of the US." That is probably too big a top to cover in one hour, anyway, and perhaps, if IL hasn't done it already, it should produce a 3+ part series. I know that that have been paid workshops offered for moving to specific parts of the world -- sort of in the vein of what one needs to do if they are planning to move to Costa Rica/Portugal/Panama/etc. I recently recommended IL to a few people and mentioned this YT video. I feel I've mislead them on this video because it isn't what the title suggests.

I have an unlocked phone. Is there anyway I can keep my US phone number (I"m starting a business too) when I move overseas?

My phone works fine in El Salvador using WhatsApp. I see no reason why you wouldn't be able to do the same

@@joel6427 Very few people in the USA have that app. I want to be able to call the USA for business reasons.

I think. You can get a SIM card where you can get whatever countries phone number and then you can also keep your SIM card for the US

I am disappointed in International Living for allowing such divisive political rhetoric on a platform (5:35) that I have come to trust. This Ted guy shows himself to be a Trumper in South Africa. A Boer. A person that is obtuse to reality by blaming President Obama at 5:35. That was so unnecessary, but he made it a point to inject hatred. Why did he see fit to put that out there? Why is he in South Africa if he has such a view? Is this what you support International Living? Again, this is disappointing.

You are WAYYYYY too sensitive! He was giving his personal experience. He left the US during Reagan's time, when he likely didn't understand much about politics to begin with, returned in 2008 to find our society quite divisive, demonstrated well in the 2008 Presidential Campaigns. He wasn't 'blaming' Obama, just talking about how he thought our country had changed since he was a young man in the 1980's. That has nothing to do with Trump, or even politics. It is a comment on our society devolving towards intolerance - as evidenced by YOUR comment. HE isn't injecting hatred, you are. He said he lives in South Africa because it is 'arguably the most beautiful place on earth'. How is that problematic with whatever view you are ascribing to him? I found most of his advice useful. I'm sorry your TDS made you see red and fall apart before getting good insight.

@@DG-fs1pq I hear you, but I have to agree with @econelliott505 in that he was definitely off target and obviously has some political issues, but I've seen much, much worse. And, unfortunately, I have seen an occasional article in IL that showed a clear political bent. There are so many reasons to move to another country and although there are those Americans who probably rank the political situation in the U.S. as their top priority, it is not mine, and that's why I think IL has dropped the ball here. I am about to add a general comment about the shortcomings of a "workshop" called "How to Move Out of the U.S." It was hardly that.
