ASAP: You need 3-4k in savings. General: 6-10k in savings Rent should be 1/3 of your income or less. Keep 3-4 months of rent in savings. Keep an emergency fund of 500 or more. Utilities usually isn't ncluded. Ask your landlord for information. Furniture will usually cost 0.5-1k. Remember you need to stock your kitchen and bathroom.

It's not capitalism friend, it's like saying the USSR was bad because of communism. The USSR was "socialist" but slipped into more extremist policies (due to many bad, bad reasons), the problem we're having is corporatism and the legal loopholes our legal system has allowed. The problem isn't even corporatism, it's the lobbying of our legislators and the absolute down-to-the-core corruption of our legal system. Please don't take it as an offense but I recommend skimming through these topics, you'll find your own red string and develop a good idea of the shit we're all in. Don't get discouraged, keep applying, keep working to better yourself; DO NOT GIVE UP

Hold the item in your hand for 10 minutes before buying, makes it easier to decide if you really actually need/want that item. Also, imagine where in the house you will put the new item, many things you don't actually need. Remember that every bit of clutter you accumulate before moving you have to move into a box and then move. I had too much stuff I didn't even really need, it was so bad, just stupid junk.

note about credit: you want your utilization of it to be under 33% or it can bring your credit down so if your limit is $4k then don’t have a balance of more than $1320 at any given time :) for renting, one thing that really helps me is finding an apartment that at least has *heat* included. depending on where you are in the country and the heat source, as well as the individual utility supplier, heating can add to your utilities in the hundreds and it can be a shock come fall/winter. even if it means renting a place for $100 more than another place i am eyeing, i would rather take a place with heat included for $1000/month than a place without it for $900/month

@malumstella
@malumstella Ай бұрын
@@boinkadoinkk definitely! i’ve lived places on the west coast where i got away with space heaters through the winter (in WA). but when i lived on the east coast my heat related utilities climbed over $1000/month, because of the heat source (oil) as well as some regional political stuff with the energy supplier, living in a drafty 100+ y/o house, etc. so having not paid for heat during the warmer months, it was a major shock and stress and required a lot of budget reconfiguring. i recently moved to the midwest and since it’s also a cold climate for a considerable portion of the year, i made sure to find a rental that had heat included in the rent just because heat costs can be so incredibly variable and i like to have my expenses be as predictable as possible when budgeting :•)
@candace3493
@candace3493 20 күн бұрын
All great points. Urgency can really affect people's decision making, especially when leaving abusive situations. So while somewhere without heating is better than not having a stable home, it's better to try and find somewhere with heat, if not all utilities included. Right now I only pay for electric and my ISP. For the credit utilization thing - I realize most people have to take on credit for essentials, but as a general rule, I try to keep my credit utilization at less than 10% at all given times. This is easier to do with a larger credit card balance. I'm not the best with my memory and the math, and tend to impulsively spend, but the way I do my best to manage my credit card is repay whatever balances I can within the same 1-2 business days. Or I forget and get overwhelmed when my credit card bill is due. It's difficult for me to keep track of bill payment dates that aren't automated. That way if there's other factors that negatively affect your credit (e.g. opening new accounts, lack of credit age, etc.) you at least have 10% or less utilization.

Lot of good pointers in this video… Don’t mean to sound like a Debbie downer but wanted to add some more to the conversation here. avg median rent in the us is $1533/month. Many places you apply want to verify that you will be spending 1/3 of your income on rent for you to even be approved, meaning you should be pulling in at least $4500 a month after taxes which would mean you would need to be making at minimum 69k per year. Let’s say you’re an average restaurant worker making 17$/hr. That equates to roughly 35k per year. At that rate, the take home pay is $2500/month. That means you can’t even get approved for anything that costs more than $833/month before utilities. Now let’s scale back a little and allow for some wiggle room. Realistically you can maybe finesse an apartment for 1200/month, MAYBE even as low as $1100 BEFORE utilities. Let’s say you can negotiate with the apartment complex you’re staying at to allow you to stay at that rate even though you’re spending closer to half your monthly income on rent. Living very frugally, you spend 300-400/month on food. This leaves you with about $900 savings per month provided you have no bills to pay,.. but in all reality most people do have to pay other bills and gas, so let’s say you spend 200/month on gas and another 200/month on a car payment. That will net you $500 per month in savings. On paper that’s reasonable enough So there’s our baseline, that’s where we can set our expectations. Now let’s say you have a good support system, your parents allow you to stay at home and stack it up, you’re well adjusted, responsible, and able to handle the stresses of work without it taxing you, and you’re able to make a plan and stick to it. In that case then heck yea you’re fine, you’ll be able to stack that nest egg in no time at all! But many people have no such luck. Maybe they’re not well adjusted. Maybe they don’t have very supportive parents or are overloaded by stressors at work, are already in debt, have other people leeching off of them, medical expenses, are starting from scratch. Stress spending is a huge thing. Some people party too much. Some people like to vacation a lot. These things makes building a nest egg more difficult, maybe taking the better part of a year or more to do. In those cases, which I think are fairly commonplace, I would recommend people to start tracking. Track your finances, track your stressors, see what you can do to gauge exactly where you’re at and alleviate your circumstances. Maybe you have a taxing relationship. Consider either renegotiating spending with your partner or ending the relationship. Maybe you’re eating out all the time. Consider eating less or making more food at home. Maybe you’re traveling too far for work. Consider working closer to home so you don’t have to spend as much on gas. Maybe you’re spending unnecessary money on drugs because you’re stressed out. Consider addressing the things that are stressing you out so you’re not doing as much stress spending. Point here is I think saving enough to move out has a lot to do with lifestyle, circumstance and status of the local economy of the area you’re in, so it should be noted that all of these factors should be taken into consideration when making your plan to get out on your own. It’s all doable, I just want to note these things because I think it’s important to remind folks out here to try to set realistic goals for themselves and not overextend themselves or bash their heads into a wall/feel like a failure bc they can’t seem to save enough and don’t know why

I got kicked out of my moms house when I was 19. Pretty fucked situation. I didn't do it right and I ended up couch surfing for a minute with family. Made a deal with my mom where she would help me out if I got good grades. I don't talk to her now. She's a piece of shit. But by working smart and hard I got my own studio now in downtown with a beautiful city view. Its entirely possible. You just gotta be smart and play your cards right and you can create a beautiful life for yourself. No matter where you start. I recommend reading the 4 agreements, the 48 laws of power and 7 habits of highly effective teens for a mental tool kit to help u start. Moving out is entirely mental btw. Your biggest obstacle when your young is everything you don't know. Educate yourself, and you can make it.

I’m a 17 year old kid, although my money is at 0, I always dreamed about being on my own, although I’m not good with money, I’ve always felt better if I can just go out, and peruse my passions on my own, without the interference of family, I feel like I’m stuck when I’m with them, and who knows maybe it’s just teenage angst, I do love my family, but I feel that if I was in my own space it would be better, but of course I could be wrong.

For those skeptical of a credit card. I love my credit card. You must be mindful of what you use it on and how much you total up. Try your best to pay it off without interest but if you do get interest pay an amount plus the interest when you pay it.

If you're fortunate enough to be in a safe space or have the option to stay living free do it to save up as much money as you can, otherwise be prepared to grind to afford living on your own but just remember that it's temporary. Try to find a roommate if you can, don't make it hard on yourself if you can easily avoid it! Secure a job, save up initial expenses PLUS try to have an emergency fund/buffer between what you know you'll have to pay monthly to live with no financial stress. Unexpected expenses always show up when least expected and could easily put you into debt which is hard to dig out of. Get real about what's a need vs a want. You'll figure it out, don't beat yourself up over making mistakes. We're all learning. ♥

I'm moving out of state for school, and one thing that can help with accommodations during the trip is using airbnb for the night. They can be as cheap as $30 with tax and fees if you can find the right place! Motels and hotels for triple the price will often be much lower quality and it's just a waste of money. People's couches or rooms on airbnb are more bang for your buck.

I'm 17, and I'm tryna move out myself and get away from my terrible family circumstances. Literally got ran over by a vehicle, which has significantly fucked up my livelihood and further deteriorated my mental state to an extent of contemplating giving up, suicide, & murder to try to free myself from this nightmare. I've hit some low points in life, but holy shit, I've never felt such a stronger depressive state of mind up until this point. I've been in some rough spots in my previous adolescent years, but damn, this is like hell on Earth. I'm looking forward to getting a job, finding an apartment, and trying to never depend on people much outside of having somewhere to stay for now due to my current age of being a minor. Also, obtaining my ID and focusing on my goals in life. But it could be worse, I usually tell myself. I just wanna be independent and FINALLY be free & happy.

To move out and have your own space, the first thing is to have a job. If your current job does not pay well, prepare yourself in getting a better job by getting certificates, taking online courses or going to college. Second, invest part of you income in real state and stock market.

Lotta people here want to leave home and that's cool and all but remember that its all about your state of mind. You don't want to be depressed and having to work a full time job to pay bills for an apartment with zero personality just because your old self wanted it or because "that's what you should do." Make your mind your home then change your environment.
