This is honestly my dream job and dream lifestyle. Nothing else. People want to make lots of money and live in a big house eating good food. I want to live in a small apartment in japan and explore what the country has to offer, learning Japanese and teaching English in return!

Really interesting to see Chris' origin story! I love how it all started with something so simple as teaching English and he just kinda turned it into a massively successful KZbin career. I'm a bit of an exception in that I passed my N1 before moving to Japan, which made it a lot easier to find a job since English/Japanese bilinguals are always in demand. Oh and my country is know for its cheese, and I eat cheese everyday... But yeah, my main problem is that I live in a really close family, and my parents would really miss me if I went off to another country and I'm not sure if I can do that to them. (Although they know that's what I want, because I told them that someday I want to live in another country than the one that I'm born in). (Oh and sorry if my English is bad)

On the social anxiety (disorder?), there are now SSRI drugs like Paxil to help your very BRAIN overcome that. I think those medicines must be available in a highly developed nation like Japan...
@imover9999
@imover9999 9 жыл бұрын
bimboblacky Except Paxil and SSRI's don't actually help you overcome anxiety disorders, they simply block the transmitters in your brain from receiving the signal, and over time the doses need to be upped and upped more and more to keep you feeling not in fear. The best way to overcome anxiety disorders is probably The Linden Method. I can speak from experience taking medication and recovering from severe anxiety. Hope the best to everyone, I feel homesick watching these videos, but it would be beautiful to live in Japan I believe.

the real truth is that maybe because you're from western & english as native language, so that's why it's much more easier to get into & work (& be accepted) in japan. while the sad/harsh reality is that it's not that easy for asian people (whom japanese sadly still very much regards as "third-world countries"(?)) to get into & work (& be accepted) in japan.. correct me if i'm wrong though.

+Khaiesha Chai It is possible to get a job in Japan without a degree. You just need many years of work experience. I've heard that officially, you need 10 years of work experience. What it looks like is that it depends on what kind of job you want to do. According to this site, it looks like some working visas only require sufficient documentation of experience and/or achievements in your field. www.us.emb-japan.go.jp/english/html/travel_and_visa/travel_and_visa_index.htm It'll still be harder to get an employer to hire you, but it is possible to get a job in Japan without a degree. It may take longer than four years to get there though.

There's a much simpler way,boys and girls.And you don't need a degree. Just come to Japan on a tourist visa (it is renewable) and search out a girlfriend/boyfriend and then get married. Then go into the freelance English teaching biz along with running a school out of your flat/house with the help of your spouse. If you don't have children,you will learn if the marriage will last or not,but the business may very well outlast the marriage and then you can look for your 2nd spouse or apply for a business visa.This is the path many have followed that is rarely mentioned among Jvloggers.Maybe they don't want you to know this ?

Lol, that was great Thank you so much. Actually I'm kinda surprised to hear all of this. Isn't Japan one of the most technological and savvy countries in the world. Don't they have an app for that, what I mean is English to Japanese translators and computer training programs to help with the English language. And is there really no cheese in Japan? Common your joking right? Like cheddar cheese, Swiss cheeses?

If I knew this 15 years ago I so would have tried this. But it's good info, I will spread the word to others to check it out. Rather than living in misery of a country where they can't budget there own money or invest in the all around well being of there people. Where greed and the pathetic dollar is god, and knowledge of any culture including there own is extinct.

I've always been reluctant about applying for the JET program, since I'm not really interested in teaching and, even though I've been living in the US for several years, I'm still not confident in my English. I've always thought they would prefer an actual American over a foreigner that can speak English like me. But after watching this video, I feel a bit more motivated. I'll definitely discuss this with my professor. Thanks a lot!

Hey, How much money do they pay on average?? Or if you can't say specifically, is the money enough to pay the bills, as well as have enough for other stuff? like travelling on weekends, buying a car etc.. how well is it payed?
@Jennifer-df6zu
@Jennifer-df6zu 10 жыл бұрын
JET pays really well. Add in the fact that your apartment is subsidized on top of the fact that it's cheaper to live in rural areas than in the city, you'll have more than enough to eat, live, travel, save, etc. If you're not on JET, pay can range on average from 230,000-270,000 yen a month with no or little experience. It's a significant decrease from JET but still liveable.

@Jennifer-df6zu
@Jennifer-df6zu 10 жыл бұрын
First year is something like 3.46 million yen, second year is around 3.6 million yen I believe. You can find the information on the JET website. Considering average pay is around 250,00 yen a month for teaching english, you can do the math to see what JET pays monthly for just ALT work.

It's possible for a Spanish speaker, at least from what I can gather. Check on the embassy page of your country if it says anything about the JET programme. You'll be doing something else though, it has different requisites and it's a different job.

The only native Spanish speakers I met in my three years on JET (near Tokyo) were in Japan on a special cultural visa (Peruvian/Bolivian guys who played Andean music for example), hostesses (the ladies I met were Colombian and Costa Rican), and Peruvian guys of Japanese ancestry who returned to work in Japan. Learning Spanish is purely done at university levels or adult education whereas JET is teaching is with younger kids. JET used to have a few coordinator type positions that required you to speak really fluent Japanese.

When you say "You're here living in Japan, you've got in, and once you're in it's easier to find a new job in a field maybe you feel is more appropriate". . . what comes with that possibility? In other words, is it actually allowed to go to Japan and find another job there while you're on the Jet program? Even though you're already there as a teacher? Also, even if you did find another job, that doesn't really assure that you can stay in Japan longer and KEEP that job unless you get a work VISA for a certain long amount of time for the sake of your job, right? Are there companies that will and won't set that up for you? I don't know. I'm trying to find a way to live and work in Japan, but it's very hard to find a way in that will allow me to stay and live there comfortably. Attaining citizenship is extremely hard, so if I attempt that it should be after I've been there a while.

themarvelousdandy Ok, so you being from U.S. is both disadvantage AND advantage, disadvantage because there are alot of people from U.S. that try to go to Japan but advantage is that your native language is English, JET (program Chris used) does require a degree but what you need to do is to apply for working visa trough embassy for yourself , now while you are waiting (and you will wait, you should send messages every 2-3 months to remind them, couse remeber, people with degrees still apply for this method too) try to learn Japanese, while it is not necessary, it will certanly give you an edge over others that don't, also finish TOEFL or something simllar to that, it will sort of compensate for collage or close to, also engage in every Japanese cultural thing that happens near you. Once you get called up for interview you will probably have to go to embassy yourself (you won't have to go to D.C. don't worry, they have like 15 offices arround U.S.) and in interview, my advice is to be NOT bullshit them, tell honest reason why you want to go to Japan, and if you give realistic plan of how you are going to live while in Japan you have great shot at getting working visa, that is what I did and way it came out for me I got a month long visa in which time I had to find job, and get 3 years visa, o leave country, luckly I found a job in 3 days.
