Excellent video, Mark! Thank you how you focus on certain areas to concentrate where the weaknesses show. I’ve been singing on my church’s praise and worship team now for the past year. Sometimes I over warm up in general, instead just on specific needed areas, and I don’t want to stress my voice so that when I’m singing I can finesse things properly. Excellent excellent video and have added it to my vocal warm-ups 🤩

I have a tour coming up, 2 hour sets each night with heavy choreography. How long should I warm up, and how long before the show should I start my warm up? Thanks!
@voicelessondotcom5 ай бұрын
I would start "checking in" with my voice two hours after waking up. Just do very light sirens and lip trills. If they feel as expected, I would continue to check in every two hours with light stuff. Then start to ask a little more from the voice whenever you start warming up your body for the choreography. It's all about making sure you leave enough time IF you're in bad condition.

Hi Mark, thanks for your videos, they are really 👍. However I have been doing plenty of consistent work on my voice for over a year, gradualy, not pushing or forcing exercises. I even learned to enjoy them. Combining it with performing live & singing at home. I hear & feel the diference, but when I need & want to speak my voice gets tired & I am not able to sing or vocalize with ease. This makes it really frustrating & I am avoiding talking to people for fear of loosing voice. Especially hard are paid gigs when I need to talk with organizer, sound-check guy, friends & than IT IS time to sing & notes are not comming out as intended. Love singing, even had some paid lesson but I am at the point of giving up as for the amount of work I do not get results I want. Any thoughts on that? Many thanks & all the best, Peter

Now you know why wealthy A list singers have a no talking rule while on tour. But the reality for the rest of us is to navigate the issue as best as possible. Talking before, during and after gigs is a huge source of vocal pathologies. So, when you must speak - do so musically. A little melodic movement in your speech goes a long way to reduce friction. Also, speak slowly and in complete sentences. Breathe deeply between sentences and wear ear plug to avoid completing with loud DJ's and venue noise. I also used to find a place to hide 30 minutes before my performance to gently re-warm my voice for singing.

I ve never seen it said anywhere what is a reasonable gap between warm up and singing. i m only a karioke singer and a singer's turn may come anytime and maybe over an hour and a half after having sat as audience and so whats the way to approach it.
@voicelessondotcom4 ай бұрын
The way I approach that situation is to sing (lightly) with the performances before you're called. That way to stay ready. There's no set time between warming up and performing that works for everyone.
@hera-nf8mz3 ай бұрын
@@voicelessondotcom . Thanks Mark for your advice. Its good to be aware of that. I do bit of that while waiting amongst the audience waiting to be called to sing and your advice is very appreciated.

How does putting your hands on your face help? I love this video!
@voicelessondotcom5 ай бұрын
@@Musicpriestess My first suggestion is to try it! Hopefully, you'll feel and hear a difference. We often "load up" when approaching a big belty sound and sing past our face. Placing the hands there defines the boundaries of our instrument and provides a more accurate feedback loop. That, in turn, triggers the brain to dial up a more proportionate behavior. We end up singing louder and fuller while staying in a balanced behavior. Win/Win/Win!

Is falsetto head voice?
@voicelessondotcom5 ай бұрын
Not technically - but the difference doesn't matter when singing. What matters is that you're creating the sounds you want.

@voicelessondotcom5 ай бұрын
Think of it as going to a photo shoot early in the morning. How long would it take for your face to not be puffy? Same with your voice. Make sure you're up early enough to let things settle in.
