Maybe it's because I grew up poor, but I agree in most things except food. I mean, do not exaggerate on it, but buy yourself things that make you happy from time to time, and a sweet like a candy bar after a bad test can give you determination to do better on the next one! The secret is to analyze what you're buying and controlling your over-consumism, ponder if buying that new lipgloss or that over-expensive cake that you could make at home will affect you over the month, and also ask yourself if you are actually going to use whatever you buy. For example, am I gonna use the 48 markers from this back to school bundle? No, I know me, a 24 bundle may be already too much, I just use the same colors everytime anyway. That's how you do it!
@Anon-h3qКүн бұрын
I live in a poor country and own only a few things like 1-2 lipsticks, 2 jackets, 2 pairs of shoes and etc. I only buy new clothes when my old ones are completely worn out. I tend to repurchase the same makeup products when they run out, like I buy a new eyebrow pencil every 3 months meanwhile I still haven’t run out of the two blushes I own, and they still look barely used, even though I use them almost every day since 2022, lol. Watching tiktok videos from americans who constantly buy the same looking products over and over again feels strange to me. For example, most lipsticks and especially lip oils seem very similar to me in how they look and feel. Sure, some might be better, but if you’ve already found the right one, why would you buy 10 more new lipsticks every few months? I’m not saying being poor is cool, it’s definitely not. But this idea that it’s cringe to have a go-to outfit or to wear the same thing often, and that you must change your outfit every single day feels so weird to me.

i think the major reason for this "aesthetic unnecessarily pricey stuff" pandemic is due to the "influencers" who keep showing these as a part of their lifestyle and promoting as if its normal to have this crap or that buying these overpricey stuff gives you the "it" factor and makes you "that" girl. its gotten so worse even little kids are following this nowadays.
@MikuHatsune1593 күн бұрын
Yeah, gotta say it's always been the aesthetic even during the celebrity days and even beyond history. We always want to look classy or above others. The pandemic made it so much more easy to fall into it because we had nowhere to physically separate ourselves from the internet world

@Anjuspeaks9 күн бұрын
@@pompom2621 Yes, this video is mainly for people who don’t have a stable income (myself included LOL), which is why I sometimes refer to my audience as “students.” Unless someone already comes from money or works extremely hard and earns a lot, I agree that it’s totally fine to treat yourself here and there
@maeduss9 күн бұрын
I don’t think that’s ok if, still, the person doesn’t use it (unless one has genuine passion for collecting that specific thing + it’s not perishable)! Buying things you’re gonna end up throwing out just bc u have money to do “wtv u want” is not ok. That person still shares the world and the environment with anyone else (and I’ve been watching a couple of videos under this topic saying that even some “donations” end up being thrown out).
@maeduss9 күн бұрын
But just pointing that out… I agree with you that we should spend our money on things we like, as long as we have that money (the thing I wanted to point out was only bc not many ppl realize when they’re buying stuff that they’re not even using, when it’s purpose was being bought to be used). I don’t like that underconsumption/ overconsumption core thing, bc if we keep this childish thing of treating everything as trends, it might not be sustainable for many ppl who just went for the trend. We should, instead, normalize (you’re very right) buying wtv you want, not going into unnecessary debt and using that wtv you’ve bought (and Ik, realistically, we’re gonna give some things away bc it might not work for us the way we thought it would, but not to the same point of those hoarding influencers).

I agree, but I remembered this thing ... Yes, there is a famous saying in this context attributed to journalist and writer Scott Galway, where he said: “Cancelling your daily coffee won't make you rich, but it will make you unhappy. The problem is not in the latte you buy, it's your paycheque, which isn't enough.” This idea reflects that saving small amounts like the price of coffee will not make much difference in wealth, and that the real solution lies in increasing income rather than narrowing on the self in the small details that bring happiness.
@madokami03Күн бұрын
Yeah, I'm like, this whole argument is giving the same argument as boomers who say the only reason we're broke is because we spend too much on iced coffee and avocado toast, as if they aren't the ones keeping the minimum wage down and fighting against the idea of a liveable wage being the minimum for everyone. Shit like "make your own at home" means nothing when it still costs $20 for a bag of coffee, and $20 is nearly a quarter of my grocery bill. We need higher wages, not buying stuff that makes us happy isn't gonna make us suddenly wealthy

As a young girl who has majored in marketing and worked in the marketing field for a year, I have gained a strong sense of not wasting money on those hot sellers that "look very worthy and useful" but are actually useless and will only take up space in my small apartment. Lets just say staying alert to those companies that try to create a need initially and then sell you something that makes you think it solves that need.

To me the US coffee culture (or lack thereof) seems like a huge scam. Even if we don't mention how overpriced the coffee itself is (the prices are criminal), there are also no social benefits from it, you just take it to-go and drink it while doing your regular activities. Which means you will still have to spend money outside of the said coffee to meet your friends, family over dinner for example. Which in other places won't be the case, you meet people in coffee shops and spend an hour or two so you get something more than just a product from it.

@nidhipawar82224 күн бұрын
Hmm the dupe ones i gotta disagree largely cause am from south east asian country and usd and our currency are not as equivalent to each other like euros or some other western country currencies are. So the og product litreally costs a fortune if you come from a middle class fam. The struggles for us would be is this legit 30-40k (max) or is this 5-2k high end product so worth to save money ONLY for that? When infact there are dupes or similar products which costs relatively cheap (yeah not the same formulation or stuff) but does similar job so all the 5-30k you are saving can end up in better things. Now ofcs i myself save money for makeup or highend stuff, am no one to be giving advices to people for what and for what not they should save the money for, if you really want it, go for it. But sometimes dupes are not THAT bad. Imo tho
