How to Open a Stuck Hood Latch of Mercedes S550

I was changing out my cooling fan today to spite the stealership's $2200 quote. With a $300 fan I ordered, I found that I did not have to remove any major coolant hoses (2012 S550 with the twin turbo stuff in the way) by removing bolts and pulling the framework forward slightly. I slid the original fan out in 15 minutes, another 15 minutes to replace it and I was done. Worked perfectly. Then to my horror, I could not open the hood after a successful test run. I found your video and had the hood opening in about an hour. Many thanks, I thought I was screwed.

Great video. After a radiator swap and put everything back together and all of a sudden the passenger side lock will not unlock the hood so now I have to take the tire off and the plastic on the passenger front wheel and try this method thanks.

Wow thank you. I just replaced the alternator on my 2011 and about crapped myself when I realized the hood wouldn’t open back up. 5 mins later wheel well cover off I yanked hard on it and popped open.

You can also use the long flat screw driver. Slightly pull the hood up. Push the flat screw driver agains the latches release switch

Thank you for the valuable info. I have a 2003 e55. The plastic red handle, under the dash, cracked, and will not actuate the s/steel cable swage fitting. (The plastic broke). Why not make using cast aluminum? What if yer in a long journey somewhere, and car needs coolant, and plastic cracks. At this point, yer in trouble.

Pliers and just pull works in a pinch. Some plastic is stronger than aluminum. but, the design is a little crappy. They should put a couple little steel bars on the other side of the plastic handle, to strengthen where the cable attaches.
