The larger hand held heat guns work a lot better for what your doing but to be honest I find it much easier to open ecu's without using heat. That particular super sticky type I like to to start at 1 corner and slowly lift as you cut at it along the lifted section with a razor.

You will find a faster way to open the case is to use a PCB pre-heater, used in the electronics industry. You already know at what temperature the adhesive releases. Just make sure the preheater you buy or make, reaches that adhesives release point. They come in most any size you want. Search PCB pre-heaters on YT. You can get them for $80+.

Nice job Canny. I get problem with my M112 engine W163. I just had my brain box replaced along with the transponder in the ignition key and the two modules AMI I think, I can't recall the name. There are two of them. One in the front of the car and another one under the steering column. And now my car misfires and my spark plugs get soaked with petrol. Is it the brain box or there is something else. I live in Akwa ibom

Hi Mario, Voltage Drop Diagnostics sent me to have a gander on how to open these things without using C4 explosives... The one I have is from a Volkswagen Jetta, which doesn't have any screw holes, just 6 tabs. It's almost like trying to break into a safe in a bank without key. I have a heatgun and just got myself a drywall scraper. Do you have any tips on opening screwless ecus?

Perhaps you could also use a PCB rework preheater like the PACE PH-100. You could program the temp for a given time interval and then separate the case.

*What about the rear part? To clone this ECU I believe you need the pins at the back.*

It helps, but don't expect it to lift the case from the center. It's not nearly as helpful as with these modules
