How to open and repair an inoperative Ford EcoSport Tailgate lock

In this video I shall be diagnosing and repairing a tailgate which will not open on a 2015 Ford EcoSport. The fault is caused by a weak operating solenoid, in this video I show how to test the feed and ground to the solenoid to confirm the fault. I don't show how to remove the tailgate trim but its simply 2 screws and a sharp pull to remove, I aim to make a video of this once i see this fault again. Since making this video Ford have released a repair solenoid so you dont have to replace the whole lock.(part number below).

Must be a common fault with Ecosports, we just got a used one from a ford dealership, it came with a 6 month Ford Gold Warranty, what a waste of time that is, first they want to do diagnostics which costs you £144 before they will tell you the fault and if the repair is covered under warranty, I already told them what the fault was, I told them I can get the part from Amazon for £38.99 and fix it myself thanks to this video.

I just recently got this issue. I figured it was some type of motor issue on the trunk. My ecosport doesn't have the lock button on the handle. Hopefully, this will not be too costly. If anything. I'll try to fix it myself.

I got same problem recently... repaired at Ford service center...they replaced the actuator which costs Rs 1700/- after calculating labour charges sgst and cgst , total repair cost Rs 2800 /-

My Eco Sport rear door won't open. I believe it has this same problem. It seems to be an on going fault with the Eco Sports and I was wondering would Ford do a recall because of it. No such luck. Ford told me to book it in for an investigation at £89. Then book it in for a repair and they may contribute to it, but then they may not

Changed the actuator and the switch but it’s still not working but both parts are fine, we are only getting 5volts to the switch could this be the reason it’s not releasing the door

Hi yes of course. There are 2 x T20 torx screws located at the bottom of the panel, once removed, the panel is quite flexible and can be grabbed at the top between the panel and glass. Then with a bit of force it can be pulled away. The solenoid is now available separately. The part number is given in one of the recent replies by myself.....thanks for watching

Hey mate, how did you open the cover from the inside? The clips are very hard and Im afraid the clips will be damage if I force to pull the cover. The pryer tool cant get inside.

remove the two lower screws then pull backwards hard and sharp at the top near the wiper, the panel will flex here to allow a good grip. The solenoid is now available as a separate item, within the comments here somewhere, ive put the part number.

Cheers for the video,awaiting my replacement part from Amazon.My warranty expired in March this year ,typical,door switch failed yesterday !!.Just a quick question-Do i need some plastic priers to remove the rear plastic panel from the rear door as i presume that the rear panel can be easily damaged during removal....Cheers again.

The panel is quite flexible and I've not damaged one yet. After removing the 2 screws. I then pull sharply outwards at the top near the wiper. I ought to do a follow on video as I've found another way in

Hi, its entirely you're choice, for what it takes i test the wiring as I work in a professional environment, so cant second guess. For you're info', the solenoid is now available separate, so you no longer have to buy the full lock assembly

I wasn't able to open the door cover, I thought your video will help me but you cut short removing the cover. I unscrew the two screws and pull the plastic board but it won't open and I am afraid if I pull it so hard it will break the something inside. Please help.

remove the two screws and pull outwards from the middle / top around the wiper motor, it will be tight but will come off without damage. Ive never damaged one

mostly he fault is caused by a weak operating solenoid, so you will still hear it operating, but it wont be operating the linkage fully
