Well I’m back and I finally bought a boat. Last week I bought a 2021 Harris Tritoon w/ Mercury 150hp and lifting strakes. I love it. I would compare it to Bennington in both looks and quality. It’s a nice stylish comfortable boat. The only thing is that I bought a 2019 trailer to get the cost down. Plus the Marina I bought from is on the water and so is most of their customers so they don’t normally sell trailers . The trailer is great but the boarding ladder isn’t much to brag about. It’s really hard for me to take that first giant step up and the handrail just sux so I’ve got a little welding project coming soon. Lol 😂 I’m so happy. I’ve wanted this boat for 20+ years and I finally got it!

Ok I have to comment on one aspect that I love. I’ve been looking at several (many) types of pontoon boats and trailers (Bennington, Tracker, Regency, Avalon) and more and this is the nicest trailer that I’ve seen to date mostly because of the boarding ladder. I had double hip replacement surgery 2 years ago and I’m doing great but I’m clumsy as hell and this is a big deal for me.

Good call on ethanol gas. Any engine other than car engine, should use ethanol free premium gas. My lawn equipment has lasted for years, as well as my 1993 Mercury force outboard.

How does the dealer know which propeller to supply the owner if you cant go over 3000rpm in the first hour? I know you can calculate a good dia/pitch but I thought youre meant to test the prop against actual recommended rpm of the motor?

Have ordered my first pontoon boat. This was an excellent video. Really well done. Question to anyone out there. I still have time on the engine order. I am not sure what to do, 2021 20' pontoon with a third tube that is around 2/3, so I guess it will be classed a tritoon. Also had a package (25" tubes) put on where tubes are .100 and not .80 thick. I have a 115HP ordered but not sure after researching if I should be going with a 150. Fuel tank is only 21 gallons. I will not be towing or watersports and all out speed will not be a priority, just when necessary. 90 percent of the time, will be just 2 of us and a dog as the load, and just leisurely cruising nicely around the lake. Dry weight of boat is 1850lbs.

Okay, start by reading the specifications for your boat. All boats have a max horsepower rating, usually about 60-120hp on a 20ft pontoon. Your smaller fuel tank size supports those lower horsepower numbers. Based on what you describe (mostly leisurely cruising with a moderate load), you might even want to consider a 60hp motor.

I drove a flat bed for years and even the heavy tarps we use have to be tied down to limit “wind flop”. That is the number one killer of a tarp after sharp edge cuts.
