This was actually incredibly helpful! As someone who's been playing competitive Pokémon for quite a while but has mostly just stuck to Singles (and also has made the mistake of primarily just mix-maxing a lot, heh), I've really wanted to get into VGC properly, and this is a really good jumping off point for figuring out what I wanna do for EVs. I've never really done Doubles, aside from a REALLY janky sub-optimal Trick Room team I tried in Gen 8, but watching some of the recent Regionals have inspired me to try it properly for once. At any rate, you did a really good job of explaining the concepts of speed tiers and "bumps" and all that, so great job with this video!

Also note for that Flutter Mane spread, you can simply also adjust the Hp/Def and do 116/196 or even 100/204 and save a point to put elsewhere. Same thing.
@jaykirizz219 Жыл бұрын
Out of curiosity, and maybe it’s a dumb question, but What’s the significance of always putting one point in sp def and def? I see this done everywhere. Thanks for what u do! You’re the man.
@CloverBells Жыл бұрын
@@jaykirizz219 Thanks for asking! Couple of reasons, but the first one being that you have to round out your EV spreads. You can only invest EVs into either 5 stats or 3 stats, never 4 (if you try to do 4 stats on showdown you'll have 4 Evs left over and can never put them in no matter how hard you try!). The other main reason is that you get more value in bulk with those last points since the first point you put into any stat is 4 EVs anyway (8 EVs for every point afterwards). 8 Evs for 1 HP value vs 4 EVs in def and 4 EVs in spdef gives more overall value.

Really helpful! Thank you for sharing your knowledge here. What I am still wondering is, how one decides which calcs to consider. I get that it depends on the team and strategy - so if I already have a solution for Chien-Pao I do not have to consider it that much but which Pokemon do you consider in the first place? Maybe the top 20 most used Pokemon or the top x pairs (maybe one needs to survive an extremespeed + Icicle spear if you get doubled by Dragonit and Chien-Pao). It could also be more effective just to play with a team and take notes and kind of iteratively add more calcs but I feel I would need hundreds of games to get a decent spread for all Pokemon in a team this way :)
@CloverBells Жыл бұрын
You have to play the game. We mentioned that briefly. You gotta play the games and see what's super common and decide. Usually you pick within the the top 20/30 mons in usage but I also look for pokemon that I'm weak to super-effective damage and if I can live it, I go for it.

@gabrielescudero1993 hace 0 segundos I always had a question relative to bulk. Between HP and Def/SpD I usually go for the lowest stat i.e. HP on Dusclops and SpD on Dondozo. On a balanced HP/Def/SpDef bulk Pokémon (idk, imagine if I want a bulky 252+ Atk Spinda which has 60 base on all stats), is it better to have 252 EVs on HP or distribute it in both defenses? Could you give an Spread example of this case?
@CloverBells Жыл бұрын
Yes that is correct. For something like Dondozo or even Iron Hands where the defense is already high, you can dump points into the lower spdef stat to give it the best overall bulk. For something with equal defenses, you can still choose a damage calc that you want and just dump extra points into the other stat. If there's no damage calc that you have, then just divide it up evenly.

So when you say end with 9 for life orb you mean like you’d rather have 119 than 126 that divisible by 9?
@CloverBells2 ай бұрын
119 more than 120. Life orb is 1/10th your HP
@Blastburn32 Жыл бұрын
What i dont get is the why it has to be up by 80 each time. Like if KO a mon at 76evs dont work out but 80evs does then what is the point of adding the extra evs. Or lets say 236 KO or 2HKO every common reliability but 232 also does that then why add the extra 4 evs. I get that part 4 is to adjust but why is the 80 bump that starting point?
@CloverBells Жыл бұрын
I had to read the comment a few times to understand what you're asking as it looks like you're asking more than 1 thing. So if I don't answer your question(s) I apologize: 1) You're asking "why" the bump has to be 80 every time? That's how the game was made. Every 80 EV intervals in the positive nature stat, you will see a bump. There is no "why". That's how the game was made. 2) Some of those numbers you used in EVs don't actually exist. You mentioned 232 EVs picking up a KO already so why the need for another 4. So 232 isn't actually possible. That's only if you're going by 4 EVs but remember this is VGC. Lvl 50 mons go by 8 EVs every time. That being said, if you can achieve the damage calc that you want before hitting the bump benchmark then that's fine. That allows you to put those extra EVs elsewhere. But if you have no reason to put those extra EVs anywhere else, might as well keep it into the natured stat and get the bump.
@Blastburn32 Жыл бұрын
@@CloverBells sorry about how it was structured l. I typed it while being doing something else. So your saying 80 is just the common place holder since it pretty much increases the stat by 10 and is subject to change in the calcs, which is what I figured but wanted to clarify. Thanks

Okay. So your Ogrepon survived the E-Speed. But you said it was overkill. How much do you want to endure damagewise that it isn't wasted EVs?
@CloverBells Жыл бұрын
We showed that. You just want it to 99% max damage. If you have the roll at say about 97 or 96% then you know you can drop it a point or 2. You can also live with the 6.3% chance roll if you need the speed or investment in some other stat elsewhere 252+ Atk Choice Band Tera Normal Sword of Ruin Dragonite Extreme Speed vs. 252 HP / 100 Def Ogerpon-Wellspring: 157-186 (83.9 - 99.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

@CloverBells Жыл бұрын
