Man that guy must be great at healing. Four weeks and can hardly see a scar. If someone tried to push my leg back like that at four weeks I would have been in tears

My replacement was the 19th surgery on the knee, 3 acl type ops, bone grafts and micro fractures, many others and a nasty septic arthritis event for a year that ate a lot of bone and left scar tissue on everything 6 inches up and down from the knee. I am at 4 months and at about 105 degrees and so much pain and swelling. I look at chaps like this and wonder what on earth am I doing wrong, I have to be reminded of why my knee is different so I don't get upset. On the positive side though, I could straighten immediately after the op, my surgeon is from Hogwarts! I could walk unaided without a limp and could do stairs corectly at 4 weeks and can walk 4 miles pretty much each day if needed so its not all bad. I had to wait 14 years as I was too young for the operation and was just coping with the help of a tidy up operation every 18 months or so, I'm 49 now and I'm so desperate to not mess it up so I can at least do some stuff before all I want to do is sit down. This video fits in well with another I watched about how the knee works and how best to work on the flexion.

Three different therapist and only one used this method. It was the least painful. The foot slide makes my hip tense and is very painful.

As a PTA our teacher taught us to thread our arm underneath the knee and use the patients other knee as a resting spot. That way you can use your body more than your hand/wrist to support it.

I made a plywood wedge with a hole through the bottom for a piece of rope to go around the ankle so I can pull on ot to try and achieve a better bend. Also stapled a strip of memory foam across the top and I place this on my bed for trying to bend the slow to bend left knee after 8 weeks post op.

Hello Paul, thanks for the videos. I was in a bad motorcycle accident September 2019 and my right leg was degloved from the knee to the hip. Trauma wanted to amputate, but my Orthopaedic Doctor saved my leg (thank you Dr. Neal!). Now, I'm at 84 degrees of flex but seem to be stuck. Due to the extent and unique nature of my injuries, my Doctor is hesitant with MUA. Is there a good device/way to do this exercise solo? I try and manipulate my knee alone as well as with PT-pain is not an object, I can deal with that. My goal is 100 degrees and feel I can lead a pretty normal life with that. I'm also in the Army and trying to finish my Military career standing tall! I am going to try and design a bench like this with a hand crank; if it works, (and there isn't something already out there), I'll post a video for you. My current PT stays amazed at what I concoct in my spare time to get more flexion. Blessings brother, thanks for the vids and any advice you can give is appreciated!

Hi Erik, wish I could see you. The key is low load and long duration stretching. Gentle long stretches. Stick with it. It should slowly improve. Some Orthopedic doctors can release the adhesions with arthroscopy. Best of luck! Thanks for your service!!
@erikleto73594 жыл бұрын
@@OrthoEvalPal thank you Paul, that advice helps me to stop being so anxious about it. I've begun doing some things on my own (with my PT's guidance). I use a weight bench with leg extension to stretch in the am and pm, and that seems to really make a difference although it is painful. Oh, and the stretch you were doing I asked my PT to do. She laughed and reminded me that she wanted to do that to begin with but my skin grafts were too fresh. That stretch is money! Great extension, it's easier for me to relax my muscles while she's applying pressure. Love the videos, thank you for posting them.

When is scar tissue buildup impossible to break naturally? I’m 9 weeks post op. 120 flexion and 3 extension. In 2 weeks my doctor will have to recommend me for manipulation if I’m not at 130 flexion and 0 extension. What are your thoughts? Thanks in advance for your response.

I’m nine weeks and less than 110 bend and not quite zero flexion. Neither my surgeon or physical therapist are too concerned. They’ve both said just keeping working t it and not everyone is at the same place by eight weeks.
