Hab das Video grad erst entdeckt. Weiss noch, wie ich meinen amerikanischen Mann losschickte, um beim Baecker 2 normale Broetchen und 5 Quarkbaellchen zu holen. Zum Glueck hatte ich es ihm mit Schoenschrift auf einen Zettel geschrieben. Er hat das der Verkaeuferin wohl 3x vorgelesen, aber sein Akzent war so stark, dass er ihr dann den Zettel gereicht hat. Und da hat sie dann freundlich gelacht und ihm alles eingepackt :-).

There's a big difference between "hätte" and "hatte". Could easily happen but "hatte" is the past, so it means you already had a bread and only "hätte" means you would like to have.

1Flyingfist don’t worry, just memorize only one version first and go ahead and say it!! People are extremely helpful when you try speaking in German! Sometimes they switch to English when they hear how i speak but i don’t care, i keep replying with my German as it is!! It is also worth memorizing the sentence: ich möchte mein Deutsch üben and then you ramble on😜

Easy German ist definitiv mein Lieblings-KZbin-Kanal und ihr macht selten Übersetzungsfehler. Aber doch habe ich hier einen Fehler gefunden. In 1:00 gibt es ein Kürbiskernbrötchen= pumpkin seed bun, kein Sonnenblumenkernbrötchen= sunflower seed bun. Trotzdem ist dieser Kanal ein Segen! .... keine Ursache! Jemand anderes hat das schön erwähnt.

This is exactly how I learned to order things when I was learning German in the States as a high school and Uni student. Then when I moved to Bavaria, no one ordered like this. Instead of: "Ich hätte gerne zwei Croissants", everyone said, "Zweimal Croissant bitte" or "einmal Vollkornsemmel" or "dreimal (die) Brezel/Brez'n." I'm curious to know if this ever happens when native Berliners order since my experience was in Starnberg, Bayern. Vielen :Dank im Voraus!

Hi, you’re right, the first one, „Ich hätte gerne...”, is more polite. However if you say for example „Einmal ein Brötchen BITTE” it’s pretty much as polite as the first one. So just make sure you use „bitte” and then you don’t have to worry about not sounding polite. I hope this is kinda understandable. :)
