Mom taught me to always inspect cloths after laundering: ripped seams, frayed edges, loose/missing buttons, wrinkles, etc. Dad emphasized culling clothes (too small, dated, worn) to avoid being "squished" and to "set out tomorrow's clothes tonight" in case they need a lint brush, shoe shine, etc. Just add a valet hook/rod to the closet. Makes for a very calm morning routine.

One thing I do when removing clothes from the hanger is to put it in a basket, so when I come to do my ironing I just pick up the hangers. I also use different hangers for specific wear ie, skirts all hanger from a wooden hanger with clips, blouses from a pink non-slip hanger, dresses from a wooden hanger…. I know from a glance at my empty hanger basket how many skirts, blouses etc are waiting to be ironed & returned to my wardrobe!

1. Line closet shelves with cut to fit cloth use pinking shears so the linings do not ravel. Easy to clean high shelves this way. 2. Use cedar block hanger thingies to separate clothing by type. write on the side of the thingy with a sharpie (shirts, skirts, dresses, etc.) 3. Screw eyebolts into scented soaps and hang on closet rod with ribbon tuck soaps into dressers & bins. 4.. ikea makes wall mount shoe bins for about $50 for a set of 2. They are easy to label. 5. Sconces over light bulbs for safety. 6. Hangers specially for pants for the vertical. Skirt hangers for shorts (go vertical.) 7. Cotton pillow cases are breathable dress and purse bags to keep dust off. Use little gold safety pins to pin on a label to prevent marker bleeding. 8. Hat boxes!! 9. Over the door pocket thingy can hold small umbellas, stocking hats, rolled scarves, tennis shoes, mittens, etc. 10 pucklights under shelves so you can see it all !

I'm not minimalist, so my closet is a bit more crowded than yours, but I do organize all my shirts on the rack by color. On a typical morning, I'll be in the mood to wear a specific color so I can go right to all the shirts of that color to decide. Makes it so much faster. And when I put laundry away, I retain them in the color scheme.
@strawberry10252 жыл бұрын
I do exactly the same. Everything hung by colour. Red, blue, purple. And black or white basics depending on weather. I choose colour by the mood I'm in as well.
@coolcpa33212 жыл бұрын
I do the same. I also buy multiples of my workhorse items in the same color (e.g. black socks, undies, bras, etc.) so when washed it's easy to pair them up and put them away. I also rotate them like linen, putting the freshly washed at the back/bottom so they all wear evenly.

I've been thinking about my closet, which doesn't in fact get a lot of use. My day-to-day clothes are in drawers in the highboy I inherited when my dad passed and my smalls and pajamas and purses are in what used to be my mom's wide dresser. I learned from a friend to roll my knit tops and pants to avoid creases - that way I can just grab what I want, most things mix and match anyway. The closet has my dress shirts, pants, and skirts, a few really dressy occasion longer clothes, a shelf for hats (I love hats), a hanging thing for my shoes, wrapping paper, a sewing box, and a few instrument cases that don't fit anywhere else. I also organize things by color. I went through the closet a couple of months ago and did a hard purge and that felt good. I LOVE LOVE LOVE your videos. I've learned so much - thank you!

I have my shoes on a two piece bookshelf that is on the top closet shelf. I cover it with clear plastic so my shoes don’t get dusty. Other items are in clear bins. I wipe the top shelf off with a damp rag twice a month. My nicer clothes are covered with clear plastic and tied at the bottom. I do that for all the closets in my house. Cuts down on dust drastically. Mine are not walk ins though, your closet looks delightful!!

We moved to a 105 mt² unit that used to be an air bnb. We each have a 80cm clothes rod, a shoe shelf above the hanging clothes in the wardrobe and six drawers each for clothes. We do not store out of season clothes. I minimised colour to white, grey and navy/blue/denimn with some patterned items and scarves with accent colours so I hang by what matches rather than colour. I sqish the clothes on hangers together to ensure they only take up 80% of the rod so they can breathe well enough when spread out. 50 hangers in total. Hanging left to right: dresses and good matching top and bottom set -> jackets -> tops that suit navy/blue/denimn -> navy/blue/denimn bottoms -> tops that suit white bottoms -> white bottoms -> tops that suit white bottoms -> yoga outfits. Drawers top to bottom: undies -> hankies, petticoats, stockings and nightwear -> scarves and swimwear -> jackets and long sleeve undershirts -> jumpers -> longline cardigans. Each birthday I turn items inside out and leave in-situ and put it back right side out when I next wear it, like it, wash it...it may be donated if unworn by the following birthday, or at least analysed as to why it wasnt...maybe no formal event invites. Lightly worn items go back in the cupboard after an airing but this time the hanger is hung backwards so I know it is a clearn-worn item. I currently have nine back to front hangers. Too easy. I do the konmarie file not fold, and organisers in the drawers so nothing is awkward to retrieve or replace. Win. Win. I have a donation box in the spare bedroom and drop them off to the op shop when it gets full to not too overflowing.

I like your idea of using the ironing board as a folding table. Right in front of the the washer and dryer! (Or in between) I used to have it in another room, but that just created an opportunity for procrastination, because it’s a room away, out of sight, out of mind. I have over-the-door racks on virtually every door, come to think of it…
@AskAngelaBrown2 жыл бұрын
So true! If you have it right in front of you, then you might as well get it done. but when it's out of sight we tend to put it of for later than we need to. Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment, I appreciate it!

See-through bins!! Why didn’t I ever think of that???
@AskAngelaBrown2 жыл бұрын
YES! It makes doing laundry SO MUCH easier. Here is the paid link amzn.to/3JGuUsJ and you can often find these clear stackable bins at Costco or Wal-Mart. The key is to get ones that are the size that fit the shelving in your home. If they can stack on current shelves, the lids will keep dust out, and the lids discourage overflow.

I like the multiple-pants hanger! I took the cardboard rods from dry cleaning hangers and put them over the hanger rod to cut down the narrowness of the rod (less of a hanging crease that way), and I alternate which side of the hanger the pants are hung on so I can open one without having to open several.

But I really like your clear bin system, because I’m a very visual person maybe the small clear bins will help me some. Plus decluttering what I don’t need 😁
@jo-annel.wright29752 жыл бұрын
I actually find smaller cupboards easier to manage...not too big, not too small just right. Our space defines how much we stuff we should have and our lifestyle defines what we should have. To misquote Peter Walsh 'No matter how hard we try we just can not put five cubic metres of stuff into three cubic meters of space.'

It's true we don't know what we will be doing in a year's time - or what size we will be in a year, or what the styles will be in a year. Keep a few traditional items you can wear in a year that will still be in style, that are loose enough to wear if you go up a size. But the point of the exercise is to not keep 40 pair of jeans when you tend to wear the same two or three pair.
