Thank you. I love this. Not feeling doubtful. Just a bit overwhelmed with the process.

Perfectly normal to feel overwhelmed! I still feel that way too, more times than I'd like to admit. You're certainly not alone!

Thank you for the video. I constantly tell myself I should stop writing because I'm a horrible writer.

I think we all tell ourselves this sometimes! Completely normal, but the important thing to remember is that if you don't keep going, you'll never get better :)
@Desertphile

Is this "normal?" I mean do other writers feel their writing is not good enough to have readers pay for it? My first manuscript has been read by several internationally known best-selling authors, as I live near Santa Fe and I run in to them now and then when I am in town. One wrote "It's fantastic! It’s a cynical, outrageous, politically incorrect, foul-mouthed and absolutely hilarious modern-day _Walden._" He has 17 best-sellers, so I should take his word on such things but I still don't like what I have written and I think it is not good enough to charge money for. I want to give it away for free, but my agent wants to sell it for an embarrassingly huge sum. When does a writer feel "good enough" to call herself or himself a writer?

Desertphile the thing about being a writer is that you'll never be finished with the book--you'll always feel like there's more to be said/changed. You know when you're writing is done when you can live with the loose ends, and still be proud of your work. It's not easy, but I wish you luck, and I'll be rooting for you :)

Desertphile let the readers decide if your story is good enough to spend their money on and keep writing you will feel secure if you keep going and do not let doubt stop you if so many like your writing they can't all be wrong

I know this is a year old by this point, but I just gotta say I am really glad I stumbled across it. I have been toying with an idea for a novel for the last two years which I really like the idea of but my own self doubt nearly crushed it out of me. My doubt told me it wasn't good enough to put to paper and nobody would want to read it, let alone pay for it. But this video has inspired me, the last point in particular, now I really want to work hard on it and see it through, so thank you for being so inspirational!

Such a great and encouraging video, I really needed this! I don't have many writing friends/buddies and it's hard to find someone who I can relate to, which is why I watch YT. I've known since I was a teenager that writing is my calling. There has been many times where I let doubt creep in and keep me from moving forward. Which is why it's taken me 30 years to make that jump toward getting published. I don't want to wait another 30 years! lol

I have OCD. For a time it made writing a living hell. After doing something about the pesky doubt, now I just worry about what could go wrong but not so bad from before. :) I think it just takes a little experience and time, and positive thoughts are very important. ps. This really helped me to de-stress and is good advice indeed.

Thank you so much for your video! I really needed it today. I feel a lot overwhelmed by what's going on in my life right now, as if I'm in a spiral that never slows down. I stopped writing three weeks ago (because of job applications, wedding organisations, family issues, etc), and I realise that I need to write to stay sane. So thank you so much for your advice, because I can apply your tips on what I'm living today

So I'm writing a book and I keep coming across character's goals. I was wondering if it would be possible in doing a video on how you got your character's goals. If that question makes sense. Oh yeah, love your videos they are super helpful. :)

Haha! Agreed. By the way, could you do a video on Book Con....like a detailed step by step process describing how a sled-published author can participate, getting your books to the location, what to expect etc. I think you've done a video about it in the past about it, but I am unsure. If you have can you link me? ☺
@AuthorKristenMartin
@AuthorKristenMartin 8 жыл бұрын
Yes, I plan on doing a vlog for BookCon, as well as talking about how to prepare for a large conference like that! I did talk about attending writing conferences and what to expect in one of my videos, but that's a little different since you're not showcasing your work at writer's conferences. So that will be coming your way May/June! 😊

I'm glad I found this post of yours. (づ ̄ ³ ̄)づ I always feel like my writing isn't good enough, like I'll never be a good writer. 😟 It upsets me and this makes me stop writing for a few months/weeks. My doubts will also give me writers block. My doubts are mostly about myself, as I have a very *VERY* low self esteem. *On a lighter note, thank you so very much for making this. The last one especially helped me.*

I'm my own worst enemy. I've put off writing for so long. I write for a week then ask myself, "Who would want to read this?" Or, "I'm not good." Ugh.
