I watched this video last night. I've been coating for two or three weeks. Shot maybe 20 pieces. Every single corner whooped me and I was scared to take all kinds of work, even for friends. Came to the shop today and turned up my air, kv, and switched to a fan tip on my kk 3.0 dpw. WORKED LIKE A CHARM. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!

I worked as a powdercoater off and on for a couple years. I wish I got to see this video around this time last year actually. But it's a very informative video, and I have tried all of those faraday tricks myself. After coating the rest of the part properly and then using those tricks, it almost always work. Powdercoating can get very complicated. Thanks for the video. Subscribed. 👍

I hardly ever have my air over 3.0. Seems to help the powder "float" in rather than "blow" in. The wrap technique/indirect that you're doing is what I do too. Good video!
@RightNowPowderCoating

really depends on the powder, and how fast you want to move... but yes I find under 3.0 its much better and less wasteful. thanks for watching.

Try hitting the corners first with a low setting on air and powder but turn the voltage down also. The flux that builds on top of the weld beads doesn't conduct electricity so I have a end cone wire brush on a drill with an extension that's about 1 foot long and I hit those beads really quick. It takes off the flux and the burnt area that the etching spray leaves behind. We also have a powder coat unit that has a corner setting and a pulse setting that reverses the polarity quickly and sometimes fixes the issue. We run a fabrication and powder coat shop so I see and control all aspects of the process.

@@RightNowPowderCoating It's actually some off brand Chinese one but it's like a knock off of the Nordson guns . It was $600 on Ebay with a 2 lb clear hooper or you can draw from a 50lb box. The main unit also has a box vibration button if you got that option. My only complaint is the conveying and dosing valves are not very sensitive and are manual knobs with gauges.
@CGT80
@CGT80 Жыл бұрын
@@buildthings79 Would you happen to have a link for that powder gun? I just looked at the Nordson web site and they don't list prices and look stupid expensive. Something around the $500 to $1500 range would be great for what I do.

im having these types of issues on brake calipers and most of the time on the second coat.. The real problem is that let´s say im doing lollypop red and can´t get it sticking on the corners, ill have to shoot a ton of powder onto the part and it will ruin the color of the part. it will go from a bright red to an dark red because of the extra spraying for the corners.. Any pro tips on this one? Regards from cold Finland, love the vids!

Hey Dan, is hot flicking the faraday areas and corners an option to help fight the problem areas first, then powder the rest normal? I know it is extra steps and you have quite the operation going. Lean six sigma takes effect and time is money. Thoughts?

Hey Dan, thanks for all the great content. On a job like this do you see a big difference between the Gema and KCI or is it just different settings and technique, but overall same issues. Iv'e been using a KCI for 5 years and have had great results and zero problems with the unit itself. I want to replace it as it has a bazillion hrs on it and I was thinking of upgrading to a Gema but just not sure if its worth the extra money. What are your thoughts between the two. Thanks for your time.

Turn your air down.. You're blowing the powder out before it can settle in these areas. Another option is to turn your powder down and put your gun in close to deal with these problem areas first and then powder the rest as usual. Looks like you guys get good results but could be done much easier and faster. And as we all know time is money

@@RightNowPowderCoating I use a wagner sprint gun and for powdering things like this in 9005 satin my typical set up would be something like 80% kv with my air on 3.75 and my powder at around 45.you said you're having problems turning your air down and I noticed you get quite a few surges of powder perhaps you have air flow problems such as your compressor.it Could even be the energizer settings (the rod that you drop into the box of powder) if you hold your hand like this 🖐️ imagine that's the spread of your powder... The thumb and little finger areas are the parts that will take best to problem areas. Never powder with the centre of your spread you want to either be powdering in front of or behind the central position. Hope that makes sense 😂

@@RightNowPowderCoating this is why i got rid of my gemas.... everyone thinks they are the best because they advertised in the right places. I prefer a Nordson... high densitity.. low volume. If we could powder coat without air pressure that would be ideal, but we need air pressure to pick it up and move it. the trick is using the least amount possible and I think Nordson has this down the best after trying them all. 20yrs experience
