I (sort of?) got over most of my social anxiety during high school, by realizing (and reminding myself), that other people probably only notice me as much as I notice them So when I felt self conscious about something, I would think to myself “do I notice that about other people?” And usually the answer would be No. Meaning, they probably don’t see it (towards me) either!

...and then you end up with masking, hypervigilance and OCD - since you monitor your thoughts which are naturally reacting to people's judgement of neurodivergent people. Compensation = finding ways around things that are naturally difficult. Example: Forcing yourself to make eye contact with someone Masking = hiding parts of your autism. Example = Not talking about something you are really interested in Assimilation = trying to fit in with everyone else so people don't notice you are different. Example: Talking to a stranger in a shop even if you don't want to (TherapyWorks- What it Means to be Neurodiversity Affirming)

i see people say stuff like this all the time but honestly a simple mindset change doesn't help with actual social anxiety disorder. for example, it won't help at all with physical symptoms.

Hypercognition: The bias toward what is known may lead to wrong or delayed diagnoses that bring harmful consequences. Perhaps we can start to gain insights into these blind spots by adding the notion of hypocognition to our cognitive arsenal. And who are most likely to fall prey to hypercognition? Experts. Experts who are confined by their own expertise. Experts who overuse the constricted set of concepts salient in their own profession while neglecting a broader array of equally valid concepts

These 3 tips are essentially how I overcame SAD, also with the assistance of "The Social Anxiety Workbook." One thing that I conditioned myself to do when dealing with the "Spotlight Effect" is this: If someone pokes fun or comments about something you appeared to do wrong, it's because they cared in some way. Either they cared about you because they want to push you to be a better you, or it's a bully who does it because they're trying to affirm that someone is beneath them. In either case, being humble about the interaction always improves the situation for you and them, especially if you can joke about it, and earns you more respect, as opposed to running away (which is a lose-lose scenario, basically). Every moment that reveals our social anxiety is a fantastic opportunity to build from it. Be the best you, everyone.

social anxiety is not even the issue with me anymore. I've just conditioned myself to be dependent on texting people rather than having real life interactions. that's why I got rid of social media that way my brain would be hungry for social interactions. it's really helped me a big deal.

" that's why I got rid of social media that way my brain would be hungry for social interactions" This working methods and half functional techniques is a concept called Functional Social anxiety. Michael Jackson had severe social anxiety in private while on his job he performed in front of billions of people. Prince, too. Whitney Houston, too. They all ended in tragedy due to misdiagnosis of their neurodivergent mind which ableist society attacks all the time. Neurodiversity describes the idea that people experience and interact with the world around them in many different ways; there is no one "right" way of thinking, learning, and behaving, and differences are not viewed as deficits. What is neurodiversity? - Harvard Health

Chances are fear is correct, ableist society will quickly judge intelligent, sensitive people, anyone who is slightly different. Symptoms of Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria (when criticism hurts) - Being easily embarrassed - Heightened fear of failure - Unrealistically high expectations for self - Assuming people don't like you - Avoiding social settings - Perfectionistic tendencies “Fear is a natural reaction to moving closer to the truth” - Pema Chödrön

Interpersonal strife with those close to us leads to rifts and resentments that produce symptoms of mental illness; these problems are, in fact, the logical consequence of troubled relationships. Glasser emphasizes that lasting psychological problems are usually caused by problems in our personal relationships (rather than signifying a biochemical abnormality in the brain), and distress can be remedied through repairing these relationships without recourse to psych drugs. WILLIAM GLASSER Controlling Habits: Blaming Criticizing Complaining Nagging Rewarding To Control Threatening Punishing William Glasser William Glasser "What's my Choice" Connecting Habits: Listening Supporting Encouraging Negotiating Respecting Accepting Trusting They see us as timid, shy, weak, or unsociable. Fearing these labels, we try to be like others. But that leads to our becoming overaroused and distressed. Then that gets us labeled neurotic or crazy, first by others then by ourselves. The Highly Sensitive Person, Elaine N. Aron Learning to see our trait as a neutral thing-useful in some situations, not in others-but our culture definitely does not see it, or any trait, as neutral. Be careful about accepting labels for yourself such as "inhibited", "introverted", "shy" The Highly Sensitive Person,E. Aron "Sooner or later everyone encounters stressful life experiences, but HSPs react more to such stimulation. If you see this reaction as part of some basic flaw, you intensify the stress already present in any life crisis. This deeper processing of subtle details causes you to consider the past or future more. You "just know" how things got to be the way they are or how they are going to turn out. It can be wrong, but your intuition is right often enough that HSPs tend to be visionaries, more conscientious, cautious and wise people. It is important not to confuse arousal with fear. And often we think that our arousal is due to fear. We do not realize that our heart may be pounding from the sheer effort of processing extra stimulation. I really suggest trying to view it as neutral. HSPs must spend far more time trying to invent solutions to human problems just because they are more sensitive to hunger, cold, insecurity, exhaustion, and illness. Since most non-HSPs do not seem to enjoy thinking about such things, they assume we must be unhappy doing all that pondering. Spend enough time putting yourself out there in the world - your sensitivity is not something to be feared. Carl Jung believed that when highly sensitive patients has experienced a trauma, they had been unusually affected and so developed a neurosis. Preferring toughness, the culture sees our trait as something difficult to live with, something to be cured. HSPs differ mainly in their sensitive processing of subtle stimuli. This is your most basic quality." The Highly Sensitive Person, Elaine N. Aron

You're being raised in a home that's going to make you hyper vigilant. You'll notice what everyone else is thinking or feeling. You're going to be super sensitive to changes in people's moods or facial expressions, and you'll startle easily. - Where I am getting this from? - Well your father has a bad temper and he erupts out of nowhere. Sometimes when you're just playing or relaxing in your room, he just starts screaming at you. We (mother and father) fight a lot and don't really ask about how it's impacting you. Or we don't talk to you about the fights at all or why they happen. So your nervous system is developing on high alert and your amygdala, the part of your brain that senses threats and danger is overactive. Difficulty of relaxing or just playing. And when you're older you'll have the same difficulty in social situations. Often labeled as social anxiety disorder, this can actually be a symptom of C-PTSD. You'll feel awkward and worried you're saying or doing something wrong. Basically your internal threat system is off because you're being raised in an unsafe environment. Dr. Nicole LePera, TWITTER

It is video of ableism, it is adding up to anxiety and toxic shame. Neurotypical (NT) personality: - strong social and communication skills - navigates socially complex situations with ease - makes friends and establishes romantic one with ease - ability to participate in loud, crowded, or visually overwhelming settings with ease (verywellmind) "neurotypical individuals often assume that their experience of the world is either the only one or the only correct one" Even with label ADHD, so many of us believe we should be able to just tough it out if we use enough willpower. Okay when he said everyone is thinking about their own things… I have question. What if they care about me more than themselves? I guess I am more interesting than the average. They are like so obsessed with me. They overhear them talking about me often , they talk about my everything..and see , they’re really interested in me. And I feel like I am the real life actor and I have to do something to make my audience entertained. Yes as you said I thought people wouldn’t actually care much about me and I did&acted the way I wanted to be. Still , I will continue doing it as long as someone is by my side , and I will not fear the rejection cuz you said it is not important as it was in the ancient times.

Can't take the bus during rush hour, it puts me in a fight or flight state, same with the supermarket when it's busy (it's open late, so that's when I go there). This'll sound like deflection but I promise it's not... I think the world's changed in bad ways, the social dynamics having gone from polite to more impersonal than it's ever been. I've been thinking about moving away from the capital of my country, I'd rather deal with having to worry about a reputation in a small town than not meaning anything to the people who live around me.

After traumatic experience, the human system of self-preservation seems to go onto permanent alert, as if the danger might return at any moment. He appeals to the universal desire to see, hear and speak no evil. Judith Lewis Herman Personality formed in an environment of coercive control is not well adapted to adult life. The survivor is left with fundamental problems in basic trust, autonomy, and initiative. Judith Lewis Herman "Neutrality" actually serves the interests of the perpetrator. I think it makes the problem worse. I would rather suggest to first start a mediation practice, journal the thoughts to get them in perspective. Then start challenging them with more positive thoughts. Visualize success and not failure (which is very common) and then do gradual exposure. Exposing too quickly can lead to panic and increased isolation

Aron Defend Survivors, TWITTER: There are so many “positive” messages that are aimed to inspire and help survivors. But when you really listen to these messages, they often guilt or blame survivors for either how they responded to the abuse, or for how they are healing now. "wave of anxiety, feel like people look at you - talk about you" This is due to trauma, due to previous negative experiences in social situations such as bullying, shaming, put downs. This is also Rejection Sensitivity Dysphoria. "social anxiety is to protect us from rejection" Social anxiety is Rejection Sensitivity Dysphoria, you even use rejection word. "this rejection trais has remained" Rejecition is not trait. You are fusing emotions with personality, persona, personality character and characteristics. This is extremely dangerous since it can lead to personality disorder: where we distrust ourselves and we start to build fake narcissistic image of superiority for the purpose of not be rejected. "Often feel judged all the time" Rejection Sensitivity Dysphoria "This is caused by Attentional Biases" This is caused by bullying, put downs, abuse, ableism, convergent society trying to correct and discipline divergent mind. "Focus on certain things while ignoring others" This is ADHD - which is also associated with social anxiety and rejection. ADHD is not lack of attention but being super focused on certain attention. "If you are anxious you will find hard about anything than idea that people are judging you" Convergent ableist society DOES judge divergent people. The judgement is real. This is not hallucination. Dodson (doctor who discovered RSD) have said: 'Sometimes the criticism and rejection is imagined but not always. ADHD researchers estimate that by age 12 children with ADHD get 20,000 more negative messages about themselves than other kids their age and all that criticism can take toll on their self esteem.' "You brain will be super focused on social signals around you" ADHD. "And your interpretations of those signal will most likely be negative" Rejection Sensitivity Dysphoria. Interpretations which are in most cases real. Convergent ableist society regards anyone who thinks or acts differently as a threat, sickness to cure and discipline, teachers especially. Idea that we ignore negative and toxic people will lead to codependency and belief we are really abnormal and that we must correct something inside our brain. Neurodiversity is not sickness - it is simply different than the ableist convergent society. Idea that we need to overcome this leads to personality disorder and depression and plethora of mental imbalance symptoms. You are contributing to this convergent ableism by making videos "To overcome social anxiety", please stop it. "Spotlight effect" RSD, ADHD really. "Whenever you start feeling anxious outside you can remind yourself.." This leads to OCD. Any ritual reaction to anxiety leads to OCD. You are making people sick by wrong advice and misdiagnosis. Any reaction to anxiety leads to hypervigilance and it signals our brain that we are abnormal while other people are "normal". They are not, and we are not abnormal for feeling anxiety. Suppressing emotions leads to mental illness. "Flip and become more of others in social interactions" This leads to codependency. "Which brings us to sponsors" You are making money on people with anxiety. Great narcissism and Machiavellianism here. You need video to improve psychopathy and sociopathy tendencies which you hide by bullying HSPs. "Cognitive restructionism, this is when you question beliefs which cause anxiety" This leads to toxic shame and destruction of self worth and personality disorder - because we believe now our brain is abnormal and that our brain is hallucination. Please stop making videos like this, you are making extreme psychological damage to ADHDers and HSPs. "Exposure therapy" Will not work. It will result in re-traumatization and creating Defense mechanisms - since you instructed people with CBT crap to believe their brain is abnormal. Use logic - how can you rely on your brain and decisions when you previously said that we need to monitor our thoughts and write them down and change them all the time? Concepts to learn: Neurodiversity describes the idea that people experience and interact with the world around them in many different ways; there is no one "right" way of thinking, learning, and behaving, and differences are not viewed as deficits. What is neurodiversity? - Harvard Health Defend Survivors, TWITTER: There are so many “positive” messages that are aimed to inspire and help survivors. Example: Talking to a stranger in a shop even if you don't want to (TherapyWorks- What it Means to be Neurodiversity Affirming) Neurotypical (NT) personality: - strong social and communication skills - navigates socially complex situations with ease - makes friends and establishes romantic one with ease - ability to participate in loud, crowded, or visually overwhelming settings with ease (verywellmind) "neurotypical individuals often assume that their experience of the world is either the only one or the only correct one" Even with label ADHD, so many of us believe we should be able to just tough it out if we use enough willpower. This is one of the big myths of our society: “is that anybody can convince their brain to do anything of they just try hard enough”. "ADHD, Self-Esteem, and Rejection Sensitivity Dysphoria" “Before you diagnose yourself with depression or low self-esteem, first make sure you are not, in fact, surrounded by a$$holes.” I have autism so I have difficulty reading faces. So unless it's like an obvious smile I have no idea what you're thinking of or feeling. With RSD I will going to assume negative, I can't define smile - I'll go with: you're angry. YT PurpleElla Dr James Davies (PhD), TWITTER: DSM defined 'mental disorder' as a 'dysfunction in the person' - as if suffering stems from a faulty self. This of course is pure ideology, with no objective evidence to support it - an ideology erasing any notion that our suffering may have meaning or something vital to teach. Defend Survivors, TWITTER: Survivors don’t need anyone else telling them what the ‘should do’ or ‘have to do’ to heal. The last thing they need is someone else trying to control them again. Survivors need to know they are in control and that they are the experts in their experience and healing. Q: Determinist notion “Man is machine” "Man is computer", “Man is product of its instincts"? Frankl: Man is something like a rat in experiments, psychological experiments. YT Viktor Frankl: Self-Actualization is not the goal Symptoms of Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria (when criticism hurts) - Being easily embarrassed - Heightened fear of failure - Unrealistically high expectations for self - Assuming people don't like you - Avoiding social settings - Perfectionistic tendencies “Fear is a natural reaction to moving closer to the truth” - Pema Chödrön hypocognition (uncountable) (psychology, linguistics) Inability to discuss or process a concept because of lacking a word for it. Hypercognition - You rapidly catalog and collate all available data on a person, place, thing, or event, calling to mind scraps of memory and assembling clues in a logical and systematic order. Social anxiety results from being around people who are resolutely opposed to who you are. Stefan Molyneux Lundy Bancroft: "Abuse is NOT caused by bad relationship dynamics. You can't manage your partner's abusiveness by changing your behaviour. But he wants you to think you can." Carl Jung | Psychology and Philosophy 🧠, TWITTER: The foundation of all mental illness is the unwillingness to experience legitimate suffering. Sigmund Freud | Philsopher & Neurologist ✍, TWITTER: Unexpressed emotions will never die. They are buried alive and will come forth later in uglier ways. Since most non-HSPs do not seem to enjoy thinking about solutions, they assume we must be unhappy doing all that pondering. Preferring toughness, the culture sees our trait as something difficult to live with, something to be cured. The Highly Sensitive Person, Elaine N. Aron "Any attempt to dictate what thoughts, feelings, and sensations are proper or improper creates a breeding ground for guilt and shame" Peter Levine Carl Rogers: “The curious paradox is that when I accept myself, just as I am, then I can change.”
