Great watch! I did a similar run to this not long ago, with different parameters - no bots, but I allowed nuclear. I used 3 trains with 7 cargo wagons & 1 oil fluid wagon each, with passing places dotted across the map to increase throughput. It was definitely a challenge using mixed item cargo wagons, but there were a few scenarios where it worked out really well - like stopping the train with some nuclear fuel directly next to the reactors.

I love this so much. Never would've occurred to me to do a rail base in probably the most cramped map type in vanilla lol Couple things that can help with train stuff: You can rename stations from the map view. Just click on the little circle that is the station, and you can do it. You can also click on a station in a train's schedule to center the map on it, and from there you can rename it as well. And when your trains are saying "no path", you can click on the train, hold Ctrl, and mouse over the rails to see what path the train wants to take to get there. If there's no valid path, it won't show any path at all, so you can use this to diagnose problems like misplaced or missing signals. Love your video! It's always a pleasure watching people suffer through horrible challenges like this, and come up with interesting solutions to the problems they present EDIT: my bad, looks like you already know about the train pathing thing

I actually started a similar run but I was planning on over twice the spm and using two parallel tracks wherever possible for increased train throughput (this means only 4 tiles of vertical room for production).

Couldn't you make "turn around" stations at certain points along the rail? A train could take pick up from an east station and then go to a turn around that is _further_ east then the drop off station to change direction, and head back west.

You could, but it would be cursed in a different (and IMHO worse) way. Because this isn't 2.0 and we don't have interrupts, the "turn around" station would have to be hardcoded into the schedule - meaning it would HAVE to hit a "turn around" station every trip, even if it didn't need to. In theory, I think you could get around the actual need to turn around by placing a "turn around" station immediately after every single normal station? So every load/unload station would have two stations, a normal one first and a turn around second; that way if a train didn't actually need to physically turn around it could just do a two-tile jaunt to the neighboring turn around station and then advance normally, but it could find a turn around station in a nearby empty branch to actually reverse if need be. ...oh that's so cursed, I love it EDIT: No, scratch that, trains only pathfind to the next station in the schedule, so they wouldn't have the foresight to hit the "right" turn around station to go both directions properly
