Ah yes, the towel, “…it has great practical value - you can wrap it around you for warmth as you bound across the cold moons of Jaglan Beta; you can lie on it on the brilliant marble-sanded beaches of Santraginus V, inhaling the heady sea vapours; you can sleep under it beneath the stars which shine so redly on the desert world of Kakrafoon; use it to sail a mini raft down the slow heavy river Moth; wet it for use in hand-to-hand-combat; wrap it round your head to ward off noxious fumes or to avoid the gaze of the Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal (a mindboggingly stupid animal, it assumes that if you can’t see it, it can’t see you - daft as a bush, but very, very ravenous); you can wave your towel in emergencies as a distress signal, and of course dry yourself off with it if it still seems to be clean enough.” -Douglas Adams, "Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy"

Consider getting an inflatable pillow as well and moisture wicking clothings if you'd travel in the tropics. Plus add some sunscreen, insect repellents, dry bags and arm sleeves, universal plug adapter and handy organizers if you don't want to carry daybag. Consider getting sleeping bag sleeves if you're a backpacker and stay at cheap motels in countries like Thailand and Vietnam. And never forget to bring fisrt aid kits, meds for headache, allergies, tummy aches, colds and cough. Bring rollable water packs, travel sleeping bags, travel utensils and extra TSA locks. Always use and bring waterproof boots or shoes too like the palladium pampa lite+, columbia or salomon. Always bring candies too like tic tacs for quick fresh breath.

Great tips! I also usually include a small first aid kit (band aids, alcohol wipes, gauze), a small repair kit (zip ties, duct tape, twine/rope/straps), and a headlamp (so I don't waste phone battery on light). If you're sticking to cities, maybe you don't need some of this (or can buy enroute) but I like more remote locations so tend to be a bit more self-reliant. Great video though! I'm subscribing!

Great tips Alex! Just wondering, have you ever had any problems with airlines checking the weight of your carry on bag and making you check it in as it is over the carry on baggage weight limit?
@AlexanderTravelbum6 жыл бұрын
I’ve taken about 40 flights in the last few years, and only 1/40 did they actually weigh my bag and make me check it. The tip is to scrunch and compress your backpack as much as you can to make it appear small like a regular size backpack. And the one that I use doesn’t look like a typical big backpackers backpack so it works well. They barely even look at it
@danielstoddart6 жыл бұрын
It also helps to choose a BLACK bag if you have a choice of colour, like you did. Black bags look smaller for some reason and they're less likely to get noticed as oversized.
@Scolopente5 жыл бұрын
My carry on was 5 kilos overweight on my last flight, but i managed to put ALL the excess in my scottevest hoodie 😀. Also use a fanny pack. You can put heavy powerbanks etc. In there and it doesn't count, and they don't even notice it usually.

I used a 45 litre M.E.I. Voyageur convertible backpack for a four month trip to Asia, and was made to check it each time at the airport. Not allowed to carry it on the plane. So I went smaller... to a 35 litre Minaal Carry On 2.0. And THAT bag I was allowed to carry on. But now, I've gone even smaller and more minimalist.... I bought the 21 litre Minaal Daily 3.0. For unlimited traveling no matter how long I go. No more laptop... just my iPad Mini with 256 GB memory.... and no more books... I bought a Kobo H2O E-reader. But planning on leaving that behind also, as my iPad Mini has both the Kindle and the Kobo apps for reading all my books. For a camera.... I just use my iPhone or iPad Mini or my Sonim XP3. I'll be 70 this year, and still carrying my own. No wheelie luggage.

From my readings you shouldn’t technically have all of your passport backups in one place. Because if you loose that wallet then you truly are fudged. Never keep all of your fish in one basket. Hard to do yes. But still do-able. I wear cargo styled pants that zip and are secure. So its easy to keep stuff separate. Also allows me to keep documents/important items directly on my person. So if my bag is misplaced or stolen somehow. I will still have access to travel and purchase needed items. Now if my passport is stolen from my hands or i forget it wherever then i can get the other items out to assist in acquiring a new passport.

I would add a small first aid kit, water bottle and a shallow flat tupperware with cutlery (a spork will do but l like one proper set). I use a buff as eye mask and ear muffler, ear plugs inside it if need be. When not used the buff sits around my neck whilst l am sleeping and it can be pulled up if someone starts waving a torch around.

First, I never put my bags on my bed or sofa, it's been every streets, airports, trains around the world, it's how bed bugs travel into your home. 3 pairs of under wears but 3 pairs of socks? lol I don't advice putting shoes directly inside my bag, also protect the dirty shoes with a groceries bag. I always bring soap powder to wash my dirty cloths. I'm obsessed with high tech fabrics for my travel cloths, I love Columbia with UPV protections and most of it's fabrics drys within hours. I also bring a fold-able hanger to dry my cloths. My newest addition is a fold-able silicon bottle. I don't like the feel of micro fiber on my skin, but during my 2019 to Turkey, I discovered the 100% cotton super thin beach towel which I use as my regular towel, it will air dry within 2 hours, I also used it as plane blanket, neck pillow or a scarfs, even as a sarong at the beach. I even see Vlogers used it as picnic table cloth or picnic blanket.
