How to Pack in Underseat Luggage (Carry-On)

I will pack in this carry-on luggage for traveling overnight for work. I would also pack in this suitcase for a 2 night vacation road trip. This is the Travelpro Rolling Maxlite 5 Underseat Luggage that is a Carry-On.
How I pack in this carry-on is with compression packing cubes. These are key pieces to your routine if you pack in underseat luggage. I can fit more travel outfits in this bag. Since it is compact I can stay more organized. I will treat this bag as a puzzle. I will pack makeup in small pouches or one big toiletry kit if I have the room.

for years I use a gym bag as an under seat carry on. I have packed for 3 week 5 country Europe backpack trip. Never use overhead or checked baggage. When coming back to Tennessee US customs looks at me funny. They never believe that I have been traveling all over Europe and have no checked baggage. Disadvantages: have to buy some cheap clothes while there. Buying a few clothes is cheaper than airline fees. Most hotels will provide toiletries just for asking. Can't bring home too many souvenirs. Have them posted instead. I'm a master at traveling light.

OMG, I just saw the best idea from a retired couple who don't have a home and just travel the world housesitting everywhere! ("Retirement Travellers") They have everything they own in their backpacks, but one thing they have is a pouch they call the "junk drawer". They are super organized and know what is in every cube and pouch, but anything that does not fit into a specific category (sunglasses, foldable shopping bags, etc.) is in the poch they call the "junk drawer". It is such a good idea!!

I purchased this bag recently and absolutely love it! I travel to Europe frequently and prefer to check my luggage. I always take a small rolling cabin bag on the plane to carry inflight essentials and a change of clothes. I previously had a Briggs & Riley cabin bag but it was a bit heavy and wouldn’t fit in the overhead bin of commuter planes. This Travelpro bag is perfect! It is lighter and slightly smaller but still holds a lot. It has great organizational features and is easy to open and access my belongings even while in the overhead bin.

Every airline has a Twitter account. You just need to follow the airline you'll be flying on, which then lets you send them a "private" direct message. I did that for a question I had when we flew on United to Hawaii. They get back to you within a very short time. Just a suggestion on how to get info without having to wait in their phone line queque to get a live person. It's also a way to get help if you're in airport and there's a flight cancellation or delay (wish I had this info a few years ago when it happened to us in Las Vegas). I really enjoy your videos, Ms. Laurie, and all of the helpful comments you get. Be safe.

Cannot wear sleeveless because I have angel wings and I'm in my 70s. I really don't even like wearing short sleeve tops due to my arms. Older women, and or heavier weight women have heavier clothes, larger clothes, and always have a challenge with packing. Which is why now I'd rather cruise and drive to my port of embarkation. No trouble with packing. I do have a very big upcoming trip where I will have to be on an airplane, and also toting my luggage all over cobblestone streets.

Laurie, We just flew over Easter weekend, and COVID didn't seem to stop us. In fact it was so much faster, we didn't have to unpack/ or open anything! No toiletries or electronics. Just take off belts and shoes and put in gray box and off you went. We flew from Memphis to Phoenix. On way back Phoenix to Memphis, just take out computer and that's it. For ID just scan your ID and lower mask so it was so easy. Just thought I'd let you know. Love your videos!

I have the samr striped PJ pants. I bought a pink shirt to go with from Walmary. Those pants are so comfy. I also got a couple PJ sets with pants similar to those. They are 11.84 a set. Very soft and comfy for hotel wear.

I got one of these under seat bags as a gift last Christmas. I prefer the aisle seat because I like to have access to the restroom more easily. I learned the hard way that these under seat bags do not fit on aisle seats both on Delta and American Airlines. It had to be placed in an overhead compartment that was actually quite far from my seat. Now I don’t even take that bag on flights at all.

I started planning that, and they all are different so I would just play around with it once your buy your ticket. About 24 hours before your flight, download the app. Then you check in 24 hours in advance by typing in the confirmation number from your email your airline sent you when you bought the ticket.

I use the thin plastic produce bags from grocery stores. They can be reused for shoes, then I use them for trash at the end. Get the most use out of them.

Your opinion about locking checked or gate checked luggage? I carry small zip ties to loop through zippers, not cinching completely closed, 3/4 of the way, if I need to give up my bag. Use kid’s size small blunt tipped scissors to cut them open upon arrival. Carry these in carry on bag.

I usually take it by itself, and it counts as the personal item. It can also by used with your carryon as a personal item. I have one that Samantha Brown designed that is an underseater, but also unzips on top to increase the size if you buy more on your trip.

Could you please explain about Duty Free and international travel? Does the weight count as part of carry on? Inbound vs Outbound? Pre-booking for collection? So little information is available from airports with everything closed. It makes it impossible to plan for post-pandemic travel.

If I am thinking correctly, your bag is weighed before airport security. So adding duty free would be afterwards. I do not think duty free ever counts as a bag or extra weight. But I'm not sure who would know for sure. Sorry!

You would have to check your airline to see what size plane you're riding on. I don't think it would; this is a bag I would take in addition to a backpack for example. This suitcase would go in the overhead bin. Thanks for watching!

Hello, Have you flown on Frontier with this bag? Frontier's max personal bag is 18x14x8". Travelpro Max Lite 5 is 16 x 13.73 x 8.5". Travelpro CrewVersa Pack 16 x 13.25 x 8.25". American Tourister 4 is 18 x 14 x 8". I wonder how strict Frontier is? I travel alot & trying to find a suitcase with 2 or 4 wheels, that is 18x14x8" max, including wheels & handle, but durable & decent price point like Travelpro brand.

An underseat bag would be called a personal item. It is confusing now that you mention it. Yes I would bring the backpack with it. The carry-on suitcase can be any size under the max limit. So the suitcase would go in the overhead bin, and backpack would go under the seat. Does that help?

It does not; It's called that, but I think it's more for commuters who can throw it in the overhead bin and keep their tote under the seat in front of them.

I live 90 miles from Charlotte. Rather than fly on a smaller commuter flight just to get to Charlotte, I always drive up there the night before my flight. Fly out in the morning. Then I don't have to worry about what size carry-on for little bitty airplanes. BtW.?..were you ever a flight attendant ? Just wondering.
