Wow you have the best tutorials! I was so confused on why my illustrations looked flat and wacky but with the way you composite colors and highlights with the Background everything looks next level now! that 3D stuff looks super helpful too!

Happy to hear this! Yeah I struggled with my illustrations looking a bit flat until I started to do studies from real life (like the ones at the very beginning when i'm talking about Lighting properties), that helped a ton. Something just clicks after doing two or three of them and it stays in your bloodstream. Highly recommended! Thank you for watching!

In addition to this being so accurate and step-by-step process , you also introduced shadows like no one else, like those 3 types of shadows you told us about, I have never looked at shadows in this way before , now I can analyze shadows and maybe improve a bit (I'm new to shading in general) Thanks very much for this tutorial, god bless you

i dont even use clip studio, this is just one of the BEST arts ive ever seen! she has an insanely clean line drawing with stylish curves but great sense of solid 3d spacial awareness. perfectly vibrant colours and light intensity to fit the character in a dark environment. not to say your character isnt beautiful, but as someone new to this channel, this video thumbnail REALLY caught my eye, in a way that your older thumbnail pictures probably wouldn't have. big big improvements.

Hawshi Magii! You have no idea how much this comment means to me hehe. I do put a lot of effort into my titles and thumbnails (always plan them before even starting to film the videos) since its the deciding factor on people even watching the video to begin with. That being said this thumbnail in particular was a struggle to me, I had 4 completely different versions and had the help of a lot of people in order to decide which one to use. In the end I went with this one, never knowing if I made the right choice. Your message just gave me a lot of peace of mind and made me really happy, thank you. And thanks for watching the video! Cheers!

This was such an informative tutorial! Thank you for sharing 🙏🏻 😊 If possible, I would appreciate if you elaborate on these 2 topics in future videos: *1 -* How to integrate the character & background better, so that they look like they share the same environment 5:58 *2 -* How to paint a background with the help of 3D models 12:42 I’m interested in any tips to help me make sure that my characters will always look like they’re actually physically present in the backgrounds where they’re supposed to be. Also, I’d love to learn more about techniques to use for painting backgrounds. Thank you, and I look forward to watching any videos you post in the future ☺️💖

One thing I need to know is: the layer in which I am painting the highlights. Will it be on above the filter effect (i mean filling one colour on the drawing) or below it? Please let me know
@ManuMercurial
@ManuMercurial 2 жыл бұрын
The highlights will usually be on top of everything so the blending mode can brighten up all the other layers, second would be the shadows, then the lineart, and then the flat colors. You can try adding effects on top of everything, or sandwiched inbetween depending on what you want!
@immortalgamer31
@immortalgamer31 2 жыл бұрын
@@ManuMercurial should all layers be on "normal" mode or does each layer require different mode?
@ManuMercurial
@ManuMercurial 2 жыл бұрын
@@immortalgamer31 For highlights I go with an additive blending mode like Add glow, or glow dodge. For shadows I use Multiply. Others can be normal and just lower the opacity of the layer if the effect is too strong. If you're having trouble you can check in the video which blending modes I'm using since the layer panel is showing at all tmes. But my biggest tip is ''paint subtly!''. Most of the passes I do are not that overwhelming so they leave enough space for when I turn all of the other layers on!

I've been drawing for more than a decade and I cannot handle so many layers. if I have 9, I'm likely to do a lot of work on the wrong one. By chance, would you know how to do this in a more condensed way? I realize it takes away from your wholesale freedom, but say you are certain of what you want to produce, so colors are not a significant issue.

I am winning with myself by finding your videos quick I wanna ask for a little help tho, I feel like a have a very hand in digital but don't know how to change that. My pen tips are gone by now sadly
@ManuMercurial
@ManuMercurial 2 жыл бұрын
In my previous video (CSP Brushes Guide) I explain how to change the pen pressure curve for the program or for individual brush properties, you could check that out. But summarized: Under the 'File' menu > you have the 'Pen Pressure Settings'. You could try changing the curve so it takes more strength to make the line thicker, usually a curve with a belly down will do that. Lastly one personal tip! If you say you are running through your pen tips pretty fast I really recommend you try gripping the pen softly and drawing more lightly, force yourself to do so because the way you're working right now can lead to a carpal tunnel injury in the future. To give you an example I've drawn for 10 hours a day, everyday, for the last 7 years and I have only change pen tips once. But I actively try to have my hand very relaxed and loose. Best of luck!

@thomaszloi9444

I want to disagree with statement of 'color doesn't matter' and using black saturation mode for showing bw mode because it's inaccurate and can mess with some people while studying(if you paint a lot with color traditionally and using digital tools you'll notice that picture without color loses some parts of contrast/volume because color does matter and adds additional weight on picture) you can see from example 1:17 . To master this on some degree you need to study lighting with monochromatic tones additionally with color theory.
@ManuMercurial
@ManuMercurial Жыл бұрын
Yeah maybe "color doesn't matter" is me just being bad at English. But I think my main message gets across, which is 'if your values are working, then you can use any color and it will work' and I stand behind it. But I do understand why studying with monochromatic palettes can also help

@ManuMercurial
@ManuMercurial 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Yamil! In CSP I was painting with the 'add glow' blending mode (different from add, or glow dodge) and the trick is I wasn't using a red, but rather a redish orange! Sometimes a more pink red also works wonders. Try painting with a soft edge brush and not a full opacity for the best results. Best of luck!

Thank YOU for watching it. I totally feel you, I don't know why but when I was in college everyone used to brag about how "they painted stuff without any ref" (of course it looked like doo doo). But then as I got into the industry I realized that every single professional, without exception, uses reference. And, as I've done it myself I realized it is single-handedly the key factor for a piece's success! I think what's important is using several references and not only one, so there's no plagiarizing. It's also counter productive to use few, cause the more references you use, the more original and rich your mixture will be, so it turns into something fantastic! And on the other side of the coin, it is also important not to spend too much time on this, so we don't fall on procrastination (I'm definitely guilty of this haha). Wish you the best of luck!

I do have a quick question, what tablet did you use for this (or most digital art really)? I currently have an intous pro small and plan to use it till I have enough to get a new one so I've been looking around for different tablets
@ManuMercurial
@ManuMercurial 2 жыл бұрын
I've owned 4 wacom tablets and a Huion through the years. Currently working on the Wacom Cintiq 22 but for most of my professional career I've used tablets in the medium range. You basically need to ask yourself 2 questions: -Would my drawing get better if I had more space to draw? It depends of how big are your strokes and if you feel limited with your current one. Then, would a medium tablet be enough or do you need to move onto a big one? -Does seeing what i'm drawing on a screen underneath make a difference (Does having a screen tablet make a difference)? For most of my career I've used an Intuos 5, not sure how it compares to the current Intuos lineup. Then I switched to a Cintiq 13HD, which has the same drawing surface as the Intuos 5, but it has a screen. And in all honesty the difference wasn't as huge as I expected. In fact, my dog ate the power cord so while I waited for a new one to arrive I had to switch back to the Intuos and I realized I could draw basically the same hehe. That is ME, not sure how you feel about it. Wacom tablets are fantastic, definitely the best of the bunch, but they are also really expensive. If you are looking for the best in both worlds I would recommend looking into Huion and XP-Pen tablets (I have used both and can vouche that the feeling on drawing on them is just as good as a wacom, the difference is in the screen colors). They both have a relatively affordable 22 inch screen tablet model. They also have smaller offerings with a screen. And then Wacom has some offers of big tablets with No screen. Hope this helps! Best of luck!

I did it on and off while working on other projects so its hard to tell, also everyone works at their own rhythm. What I CAN tell you is if at first it takes several days to paint a piece, the next one will be faster, and the next one even faster. I promise the more you paint you'll quickly gain speed!!

Happy to help! And absolutely, it might not be in a single video but in every video I'll try focusing on an area of the program and explaining the tools we have at our disposal! And I totally feel you, I've been using CSP for 6 years but I'm still learning things every day, it is actually quite robust! Thank YOU for watching!
