Helpful. I liked the tip on cleaning the roller of loose fibres before use and how to gently lay out the paint. Now I just have to practice. Thanks from sunny Cyprus.

Thanks for the tips on getting a nice flat finish on the door. Liked the idea of using the 1/4 inch nap roller to spread the paint then a fine finish with the brush. Off now to do 4 flat wood doors, thanks.

@ staggsbefixin thanks for this! Would a foam roller make even less stipple than the low nap roller?

Hey, if the acrylic paint starts to dry off quickly, can a fine mist of water on the new paint help with the laying off? Thanks

Really good video. I may have missed it. What type of roller did you use, foam or the other kind (don't know what it's called - sorry). I used the other kind on a door trim. Came on nicely but left some stippling (sp?) although not so bad and it actually looked ok. Now I have to paint French doors and thinking of using a roller for the flat parts. Any advice? Thank you.

sorry I missed your comment and responding so late. These are 1/4 nap mini rollers that I picked up from Home Depot. they are labeled as "trim and door" It might be tough to use on French doors, but it really comes down to what your preference is. my other video "Battle of the finishes" goes into some detail on using a brush or roller for doors and I broke the video into chapters so you can skip ahead.

I am painting white 10 old brown vanished smooth doors.. I have litely sanded them . I have primed them and seem to need 2 coats of primer. Since the dark bleeds thru.. I can’t seem to get a smooth roll on the doors without holidays. Any suggestions?
@staggsbefixin83262 жыл бұрын
2 coats should do it, even over a dark color. Did you use an oil base primer? Sometimes you’ll need to to prevent the bleed through. Without the right primer, you can put multiple coats and still get the bleed spots. Let me know what primer and paint you’re using and I might be able to get a good idea of what’s going on

@@staggsbefixin8326 Thank you for the reply… I used kilz latex primer and Vaspar ultra white semi white. I live in FL for it is hot outside and AC and ceilings fans are on 24/7. The 2 doors I did do are so tacky with holidays and visible paint marks. I am selling my house and need to update the doors to white to make them modern. Can’t afford to replace them all. 11 doors which include closet sliding doors! Thank you for taking the time with your advice!

@@joannegonet5841 I imagine it’s very tough to do with the humidity. From what it sounds like you’ll want to make sure your primer is stain blocking or you’ll get the streaks and bleed. If there are really dark stains after you prime, you can prime those spots a second time to make sure the paint covers. Let it dry for day before another coat

Thanks Staggs, Why do you use a narrow roller instead of a thicker one? Regards Newell
@staggsbefixin83262 жыл бұрын
It makes for a better finish. Use a thicker nap for a more textured surface and a thinner nap for smoother surfaces

Can I ask, is it acrylic you are using?

Interesting you don't lay off all the length of the door with the roller. There isn't a noticeable "join" in the middle at all? I have to paint about 9 doors like this and I'm nervous. Last time some of them were painted we took them off and we had so much trouble with texture and I don't want to remove them again. It was a real nightmare! I've invested in a roller like yours, so I'm hoping we will have better luck this time round, and a lot quicker.
@staggsbefixin83262 жыл бұрын
If you have some experience rolling doors like this, you should be able to go the whole length. A big part of keeping the finish smooth is applying the correct amount of paint. Temperature, etc all factor in. If your paint starts leaving texture, change your roller cover and paint to a fresh set up
