Awesome! Why did it take me over a month of watching other limited value, overly chatty videos, before I finally found Paul. Wow, what a difference. Paul's explanations and demonstrations are more efficient and effective than any others viewed on KZbin. Something is wrong with KZbin's algorithms as I spent weeks looking for a good fit. The searches kept bringing up the same five or six artists that did not meet my needs. Then finally I came upon one of Paul's videos by accident and after that I immediately subscribed. His sense of humor is a happy bonus. Loved the Bob Ross tribute!

I remember my teacher trying to explain perspective to me and I finally just said I understood when I did not have a clue. After watching this I realize that it helps if the one teaching understands the principles. Many excellent artists just understand intuitively or they are good copyists and simply paint what they see. I don't think you get this instruction even in many art schools. Thank you so much. Andrea Marr, lol I have done the same thing sooooo many times throughout school when I still didn't understand something, even after asking questions about 3 times for the same problem lol. Watching you paint reminds me of my late husband. He was a lifelong professional artist and couldn't make a mistake. I've been an artist, and a journalist, and a mother, and for a time, a barmaid. Giggle. Until I retired I rarely had time to paint, now, I have long endless days to play. I do have to worry about eyestrain though after 8 or 10 hours hunched over the easel.

Just happened to see this tutorial mentioned in an art Facebook page and thought I'd look into it. Wow! What a treasure to find! Perspective has always muddled my mind (I'm 72 yrs. young) but this was very clear and concise. Did a little "lookey-loo" into your book , too, and find I must have it!! I'm not a total beginner (5 yrs. into watercolor or any type of art at all) but I find I'm never beyond learning more of the basics. I love this little painting as well and will give it a go. Learned this in art school of course but you are a much better teacher. Now,can you do the sketch of that old row boat step by step. I've made dozens of drawings but I just can't get it right. Tried a couple of paintings when I thought I had gotten it right, only to end up with lovely watercolors of boats never seen in this world. Sigh.

Thanks again Robin - The boat can be tricky - often a mistake I see is people tend to draw it as if it's going up hill - remember the boat is laying fairly flat in the water with the seat slats horizontal. I'll do some more boat tutorials soon with some drawing tips!!!

I love perspective. There's magic in it. I first became familiar with perspective in drafting class. Oh fun time fun time happy time happy time! Drawing it first then using my drawing to make what I drew in shop class was a hoot. Wood shop in junior high, metal shop in high school. I had no idea that all those drafting and shop classes would get me selected for builder in the US Navy Seabees. The bees taught me to build just about anything needed on a military base while the Marines taught me to shoot back at those trying to stop me. Oh yeah. I love perspective.

Thankyou so very much Paul, for this precious tutorial. I struggle with this aspect. When I first started sketching and drawing , I struggled to bring those curves and angles. Suddenly it dawned on me that I have to bring our Geometry lessons and Physics into art !! Now wish I had paid more attention to those two subjects. Seems inevitable in our daily life.
