I have been painting with oils for ever, self taught and thought I'd never master watercolor. I cannot tell you how grateful I am to have found your tutorials! A whole new world opened up! I also had no idea of the different materials you can use in the process. I am now trying to find drawing gum and once I get that I will try doing the lighthouse. What a wonderful likeness. I was born and raised in Portland so this is part of my collective “back-yard”. The flower is (Rosa Rugosa) or beach rose. It grows wild along the shoreline and all of the islands up and down the Maine coast. Thank you so much for this very heartwarming painting.

Great tutorial, and this is a place I know well. The Rosa Rigosa, “beach roses”, grew at my NH home and smelled like clove, cinnamon and allspice. People would knock on my door to thank me for growing them and sharing their incredible scent.🌸

Thats awesome you watch with your 5 year old. So many think this is my time go away. But this is how they learn to love art. Watching with an adult talking about what pauls doing and just enjoying his abilities. Then the finished product is there for her to see. And the outtakes are too much fun for you together. I love Maine, Jim. I live in the Ottawa area of Canada now but when I lived in Montreal not a summer went by that we didn’t take a road trip to go and take photographs of the lighthouses in Maine. We even made it up to Bar Harbor one time. So beautiful!

Thank you for showing a pretty side of my state. I live about 20 miles from this lighthouse. The roses are beach roses and when the flower dies it forms a rose hip. Rose hip tea. Great source of vitamin C. I think I know Bahb.....good giy.

I live in Maine now for 28 years from Cal, and i love this lighthouse there are so manybeautiful ones here in mine you should paint! The flowers at this lighthouse are called Roosa Rugosa they are sort of a wild rose, so your painting is perfect! Thank you so much i can't wait to try this! :) cheers to you!!
