Thank you so much. I've never understood the idea of simplifying, of having the freedom to decide what to use from the reference and what to eave out. This makes so much sense, and your painting has such unity, because of this process. I feel like I have a whole new perspective to work from.

A Sponge! I'm new to art in general, so I'm racing to catch up, lol. This is fantastic. This is EXACTLY what I've been trying to learn how to do. Thank you for explaining the whys, that's very helpful. I too have been working on a bridge to try and study building up layers. ...Mine is a monster attacking a city though. Impressionist style. It started as an abstract, but the scene sort of appeared, now I'm just building it up. (My friend took a digital copy of the base and started drawing on it. The monster is her fault. I see more collabs in the future, lol.)

Also, I can't wait to try this. It reminds me if of Silver Creek Falls. Gorgeous!

Bonjour Kris, I saw how to simplify and I 'm wondering why you don't began with the fist value study and colored it with lavis or multiple colored layerS ? Have you tried this méthod ? Thanks

Bonjour. Merci pour votre question. I have heard of this method, but I thought it was used primarily in oil painting. In watercolor, it seems to me that the transparent paint added on top of the value study would look quite "muddy" if painted over the gray colors. Have you tried this method? If so, how did it work for you? Passe une bonne journée!

@@KrisDeBruineStudio Bonjour Kris, yes it's a classical méthod that I tried in oil painting but not yet in WC.

Kris, on WC I will tried based on tri chrome greys and not using neutral tint, may be it would not be soo mudy.
