Amazing. I just got a leviathan box for my birthday and I'm splitting it with my daughter. Even though the marines are primaris I'm painting them as alpha legion with fluff that they're marines who crossed the Rubicon whilst undercover but they'll be using standard alpha legion rules. I've wanted to do alpha legion for years but I've always ended up doing black legion, death guard or red coursairs because the paint job is so easy whilst the metallics of alpha legion has been intimidating.

Thank you so much, we're glad you enjoyed it! That colour is achieved by adding the Contrast paint Gore-Frunta Fur, diluted with 50% Contrast Medium, directly on top of the silver (in one or two coats). This changes the hue into yellow/brown but the paint is transparent enough to let the metallic paint shine through.

Few questions before i use your guide to paint 1500 points of Alphas. 1: A lot of marines have cloth instead of chain, if this modal had some what colors would you make it? 2: i like the idea of the copper, but it looks very brown on the sword. Anything you would recommend to achieve a more metallic look or is it just not translating well over video?

That's so cool that you want to use my colour scheme! 👍 1. Hmmm, maybe a red/burgundy could work, to contrast with the armour? Or a more neutral colour like dark grey or beige? If I were you, I'd do a couple of tests and see what I prefer. 2. If you want it to look more metallic, dilute the paint with more contrast medium or do less coats of it. Alternatively, you can choose a different shade of brown that is more towards yellow than red, like maybe Snakebite Leather?

I apply a thin coat all over. My preferred method is the airbrush. Regardless, I dilute it with water to a milky consistency. I have a whole video dedicated to varnishes on my channel 👍

Thank you so much, I'm glad you enjoyed the video! I mix the contrast paint and medium on a wet palette with a paintbrush. To get it onto the palette, I either use a pipette or just the paintbrush.

@Children of the Sun Thank you so much, I really appreciate your support! Contrast Medium (or any painting medium, really) is sort of the "carrier" that holds the pigment, so the actual liquid they are suspended in. Therefore, by adding more medium, you're diluting the paint by adding liquid to it. In this video, I wanted the Akhelian Green to be "weaker", showing more of the metallic underneath and thus creating a more subtle effect. You can also use water to dilute acrylic paints in general, but for shades or contrast paints, I find that water changes the properties they have in a negative way.

Thank you so much! 😊 I would still use Gloss Varnish first, then apply the new Nuln Oil formula. If it stains too much, I'd just do a pin wash (use a smaller brush and apply it only in the recesses).

Which version of streaking grime was used here out of curiosity? The shop has about 8 different versions of streaking grime.

Yes, I can see that.. I think my bottle only says "Streaking Grime" with nothing before or after, so I think it's the product number AK012. So none of the ones for specific hulls or colours. But those could probably work well, too, in all honesty. Or just an oil wash with Burnt Umber.

Beautiful deception lord! Always thought of the Alpha Legion as one of the most fancy factions. Btw, how would you go on about painting a Death Guard terminator? Would that grime paint help in making a dried blood effect?

Thank you so much! As for Death Guard, I would definitely see a use for the grime paint. Either slabbing it on all over and wiping some off with a cloth/q-tip dipped in some white spirit, or making streaks with it (as the product was intended to do). Maybe it would work for blood too, on top of a dark red base for example???

That's a great idea! 👍I feel the mini maybe became a bit too blue, but some of that comes from the white balance of the camera. Spent some time color correcting it, but it still looks more blue than I would have wanted...

Well, the Chaos Space Marine kits have AL and NL transfers. For Legion-specific models, you'd have to go to Forge World and check out their 30k line. Or 3rd party proxies, but I'm not well versed in those.

Strange, the green/turquoise shade should come from the Aethermatic Blue paint. If too much of that shines through, then maybe the Akhelian Green you applied was too thin? Or maybe GW has changed the hue in the paints??? It could also be the white balance of the video, in real life, the mini looks a little less blue than it does here.
