You, sir, are an artist. Not just someone who fills in a traced line drawing with color, as you see so much on YT and in galleries! I've never forgotten what Sargent said about painting being drawing with the brush. But unless you are thoroughly grounded in drawing, you can't work in this way. Bravo to a kindred spirit!

I am familiar with you beginning a painting always with a carefully done charcoal line drawing, so it's really interesting to see you paint in a painterly allla prima style. This is very similar to how artists like Sargent painted. It's hard to do and still get all the contours accurate but you have definitely got the talent to pull it off.

The music, your friend, I'm feeling so 1930s about this one. So classical. Love your style Cesar... you're always so fun to watch and informative. I might have to spend longer than 6mins and go watch your full length video. If I painted this I would have sharpened way too many edges. Amazing alla prima style! Love all those brush strokes, the final shades and palette. Also that palette looked very natural colour, I don't know if it was the camera or whether you had a very low chroma palette with very natural colouring? Absolutely wonderful and makes me want to go buy more colours just so I can experiment?! (Oh and because oil paints are delicious and I want more lol). Thanks for always sharing your work and helping us develop our skills! Also super inspired by you travelling and painting. 😚

Thank you caesar for uploading this video. I too love drawing portraits. But I find it difficult to match the proportion. Almost 50-60%resemblance I can draw. How do you do it? At present iam using charcoal.
@triisart17214 жыл бұрын
watch proko's video about measuring. To get correkt Proportions use plumlines, focus on big angles and compare different parts of the Subjekt. Try to get the big forms first and then focus on smaller forms

the colors don’t need to match -_- missing the point of painting if the piece by its self feels right it’s right
@chomanthapa4 жыл бұрын
@@shintori2808 please dont add useless philosophy . The basic rule is to match the color as accurately as possible especially for portrait . This isn't modern art.
@shintori28084 жыл бұрын
@@chomanthapa I’ve Been painting for 20+ years and working consitantly as an illustrator for 10. SO no it’s not some modern art BS philosophy It depends on the intention of the artist. as long as the VALUES and FORMS are correct it does NOT matter. His intention was a quick portrait and what he did is more or less mono-Tone wwhile it’s very good he obviously was not actually concerned with Accuracy.
@chomanthapa4 жыл бұрын
@@shintori2808 Everyone here has been painting for +20 years. When you said its pretty much monotone that explains your understanding in arts. Monotone is using just one color primarily black and white. I can understand you want to justify his art. No wonder he is a great artist thats why we have come here else we would be subscribed to 'how to draw an eye tutorial'. But when colors don't match they simply dont match. The beauty about color painting is if you can match the value and tone you don't have to worry about accuracy.

I'm good if you're too busy on vacation; I just thought of it seeing the video. Peace! just DM on twitter @realshawnshawn Try to hit the whiskey tour there (if you like whiskey) :)
