Because we’re looking for specifics like what is the best kind of high temp paint to use, does removing the caliper from the car completely hold any significant benefits as opposed to just leaving the brake line attached to save time, does high temp paint stick better to a rough or smooth surface, is it ok for the brakes to still be a little warm, how many coats should you do, etc. We comment to hopefully keep people who are watching because they don’t know the basics of how to paint a caliper from copying this dumbass.

Exactly, I'd say it's worth taking the extra time to remove the calipers from the car completely. Then you can fully clean and sand everything, don't have to worry about overspray on your car, plus you get a more durable finish. If you're gonna paint something, prep is the most important step. I'd rather spend time bleeding the brakes than covering everything in plastic.

Followed this to the T yesterday and my calipers turned out great. Just one tip is that make sure when you use the garbage bag to cover the roters and what not, make sure its not touching the caliper thats going to be painted because it can cause uneven adhesion of the paint with the garbage bag and caliper resulting in unevenness. Otherwise great video. And those thinking how much to wait between each spray? 10 mins.

Off all the caliper paint vids I’ve seen yours was by far the best and most comprehensive one! Good job! Looks amazing! The only suggestion I would add is this. Once you have tge wheels off, between paint coats. Go ahead and do a good wheel cleaning job, especially on the inside! This is an area that rarely gets a good scrubbing! I will share this!

+Shuffle3956. Not really, you can take the pads out, leave the caliper attached to the lines, get a cleaner mask, and then paint. You shouldn't worry about it though, if you don't know the difference between brakes and breaks, you should not be trying this at home.

Don't have to disconnect the rubber hose in order to clean/paint the calipers. Just hang the caliper in the wheel well by a piece of wire or string, keeping the weight of the caliper off the rubber hose so it doesn't get stressed/twisted. And, when putting the caliper back on make sure you don't twist the caliper around and put the rubber hose in a bind. "Feel" the resistance on the rubber hose when returning it to it's mount and reinstall it in the appropriate manner.

Good job man. One tip I use is to have a hair dryer or heat gun on hand to speed up the whole drying process. I even pre heat the caliper before I start spraying. Also cover the whole car with old sheets, that mist travels. Top job though.

Take off the caliper, let it sit on a 5 gallon bucket so there's no tension on the brake line and voila it is done! This way you can work on the caliper easily and clean it really well and you don't even have to bleed the brakes . For those saying you HAVE to bleed the brakes, you don't. Just don't disconnect the brake line from the caliper and cover the brake line up!!

I love this. To the other guy that says take them off it’s just two bolts. It’s not just two bolts if you take them off you either hang them or remove the caliper totally them you got break fluid everywhere. This is the way to do it. This is the way I’m doing mine. Great video and thanks a ton.

Looks good...here comes the but. You did mask off but there will be a ton of over spray on the top surfaces of the car. Clay bar should will help remove. Just a fyi if others try it...you will get over spray on anything unprotected especially if you're doing in the garage 😉

Whoa ... you're a rough crowd .. Rodney Dangerfield. * Paint on the pad ... who cares, it won't hurt anything. Next time he "pad slaps" they're no longer painted. Would I settle for that or painting the hardware, no way. * Paint while on car vs pull and paint. Personal decision based on tool set, skillz set, mind set, and car. Based on car, and rims .. he's fine. * Duplacolor vs "brake paint" vs powder coating - again, personal choice with $$ to spend, time and skillz. I've seen duplacolor 1yr, 2yrs down the line ... They look like what it cost. I've used the expensive mixed epoxi-paint kits and it looked great 4 years later. Powder coating is a tad more expensive, lasts nearly forever. (longer than the calipers will) Personally, I removed mine, clamped the hose, (they have a round nosed vise-grip for this, just don't do it to SS braided hoses) used a die grinder with a 3M pad to take off all the flashing on the calipers and brackets castings (pet peeve). Then had a local shop powder coat them (which you can do yourself for under $150). But now, when it comes time to "replace" the calipers I'll want to rebuild vs replace as it's $50-$100 bucks per pair of calipers to get them powder coated. What I actually did to make the best use of time, was when it was time to replace my calipers, I ordered a set, prep'd them, powdered coated them, and then on a saturday of my choice, installed them. Bleeding brakes is not rocket science ... watch the vids and test on a quiet street afterwards ... your good to go .. (or stop!) Some people choose to not paint the bracket. (part between spindle and caliper) My personal choice is to not paint the hardware or pads as I like the contrast. (my preference) I do 100% of the caliper and bracket even tho I know you can't see it. Its a half-ass'd job IMO and I would know. And that matters to me.

Hey man! Awesome trick with the trash bag. I sprayed my caliper with black plastic dip and then I sprayed it yellow with regular spray paint. Worked better then the caliper paint .

A couple of things I want to share with you. I think it would’ve been as easy and yielded a much higher quality job to remove the calipers or paint them before installing. Secondly, while you’re right about lighter and more numerous coats you were a bit on the extreme. Your coats are super light and you’re spraying a lot of waste into the air. 2-3 coats should be plenty. Nice video!

I have always pulled them for this process, but if you want do it quick and not have the worries of re-bleeding the brake lines I suppose it works. I would suggest that you do this right before installing the new pads though, that way the pads are not painted because it makes for a cleaner look. Overall not a bad way to get it done when you have no desire to do some mechanic work on putting the brakes back on...

You can see at the end that he ended up with paint on his rotors which is inevitable with his technique. It just looks poorly done. If you're going to go through the work of getting the painting supplies, you may as well take the calipers off and prep them correctly.

I thought this was meant to be the fastest way of painting your calipers🤦🏼‍♀️😂 I think I'll stick to my way of painting the calipers. I use Hamirite heat resistant paint & use a paint brush.
