I realize that this video is geared towards painting professionals. I am not a professional painter. I am a real estate investor who is seeking to save money by learning how to update existing cabinets in our rental properties rather than tearing them out and replacing them all the time. I am very excited to learn about the Aquacoat grain filler, and I found the tips about labeling and organizing the doors, drawers, and hardware very helpful. I will also make sure that I use an inspection light. What I'm wondering is if it will be possible for me to get anything resembling a smooth, professional looking finish on oak cabinets if I do not have an awesome sanding system like yours, or even a paint sprayer. If I do attempt to do a small kitchen, how much longer should I expect the job to take without professional equipment? If my cabinets come out well enough where I conclude that doing them myself is a viable option, I will definitely consider getting a paint sprayer and sander, but I can't justify the investment in the equipment until I know if I will be doing these jobs on something approaching a regular basis. Can you possibly suggest a less expensive option for a sander and sprayer that would be appropriate for a person who is tackling cabinets and vanities 3 or 4 times a year? Are there any counterparts to the products that you use that are available to a DIY painter at Home Depot, Lowe's or Sherwin Williams where I can substitute and still get good results? I don't expect to paint at your level and get the same outstanding flawless results you do--I'm shooting for an acceptable but not necessarily perfect finish that doesn't scream "completely clueless homeowner," and something that won't peel or chip off within weeks. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks so much for your wonderful video. It has really inspired me.

I am currently in the process of painting my cabinets and I watched several tutorials. I watched this tutorial in its entirety and found some very helpful tips/information. I am hand painting using a brush and mohair roller. I used the Benjamin Moore paint as well and the finish is beautiful. The tip that was valuable was using tape to delint the roller and then washing the roller before painting the cabinet doors. Thank you for this tutorial and the wealth of information provided.

If it's latex paint, Floetrol can really help the paint lay flat and not show roller or brush marks. A clean damp high quality brush(like Purdy) really helps a lot too.

I watched your videos on spraying cabinets and doors ect... I had some polyester sprayable body filler left over from car project. Its basically sprayable bondo, one coat will fill all the wood grain on most woods, 2 coats definitely. Then you just have to sand once and not have to fill all those lil spots. Its sandable in 90 minutes. I sprayed my stuff with benjamin moore advance, 2 coats of that and done. Try the sprayable polyester filler it may save you some time. Its not good for stuff with lots of angles and details but its great on flat surfaces. It cut down my prep for paint time.

Re-painting kitchen cabinets would you recommend HVLP sprayer or brush then quick dry roll finish with Purdue lint free roller. 2. Using SW Emerald Satin for final coat and BIN Shellac primer. Watched a pro painter video where for top coat he mixed Polycrylic with the SW Emerald @ 50/50 ratio and advised dry rolling technique to achieve spray like glass top coat finish. What do you think?

I used to just order new unfinished custom-made doors and spray those with conversion varnish in my finishing room, then spray the boxes onsite. Same basic taping off process. I had to put a 1500 CFM ventilator in the nearest window and wall off the kitchen with plastic barriers. Definitely had to have the PPE due to the fumes, but being able to sand in 35 minutes then recoat was great. Prep and taping off took a couple of days, but the actual spraying (game time) only took a couple of hours. Most of the old cabinets I repainted were originally lacquer, so compatibility wasn't an issue. I was probably violating some OSHA and EPA rules, but the results looked as good as the new cabinets I offer my customers.

Awesome video, i do the same method but I tend not to fill the grain. If you use the kem surface the set up time to hot coat is like 10 minutes. I'll put a shit ton of coats on during a couple hours and let it sit then 220 sand. This normally will fill in all grain or the majority and the final top coats self level the rest. I drill holes into the bottoms of floor cabinets and tops of high cabinets and screw in hooks, I use close hangers to hang them, that way both sides can be sprayed at once. I'll take two 6 foot ladders and prop up an extention ladder. I hang the cabinets in the foot placements in the ladder with the hangers. I use a hvlp though with an artisan valve. I like the finish way more than my airless. I use the #3 needle. Awesome video

I'm breaking ground on a home I'm building in 9 days and as you're aware things are very pricy. I decided to paint all of the cabinets because my builder charged thousands extra for white cabinets. The cabinets are beautiful and the best quality I've ever owned but they're oak which I don't like, looks like Aquacoat is in my future! I'm taking notes to make this perfect and long-lasting! To caulk or not to caulk was great to hear you guys discuss, I'm adamant about elastomeric caulk but I'll give this some more thought. Funny you mentioned a guitar finish because I literally talked to my brother about that right before I watched your vid. I'm not doing 5 coats lol.

I'm getting ready to paint all my kitchen cabinets and I'm drinking in all your related vids. BUT I'm going the easy route and rolling the cabinets while spraying the drawer and door fronts. I've done this before and it works with satin paint. I'm going to use your centurion 2k for the project.

Are you still recommending Centurion 2k poly for kitchen repaints? I was thinking about brushing 1k for the frames on-site, then taking the doors/drawers back to my shop for the 2k application. Your thoughts on that idea?
