I loved how each step really added maximum effect, while still keeping the process understandable. As a new painter, I'd love to hear Fletcher's commentary on techniques and tools, too - I've not seen painters mix on cardboard or tissue and would be intrigued to hear the "why" behind that. Super nice video - thank you, Fletcher!

So I’m using a dry palette (in this case it’s cardboard) to mix my metallics as they tend to separate on the wet palette!

What an amazing tutorial, and mostly brush work, which is amazing for us that can't have an airbrush!! It's really given me lots of examples of thinking outside of the box when it comes to mixing paints. I'd never of thought to mix browns with metallics for example. Think i'll be following this, with my own twists for sure.

Well done, bloody well done! I haven’t seen any painter on KZbin use the washing technique you’ve shown. It’s become a fad to use oil washes or AK products in leu of acrylics but you’ve demonstrated how to efficiently keep it simple by utilizing a secondary pot of flow improver. 🤟

Just a suggestion for painting tutorials: List the paints you use at the start. If I wanted to paint this way, I don't want to have to flick between screens or write stuff down etc etc.

Thanks for the feedback. Plan is to have a full list of paints and tools in the description next time.

@@tabletoptactics as a viewer of painting videos id also say that its also nice to see the name of the paint being used in the bottom or top corner so that if youre watching without sound you can still get a good idea of whats happening, although I don't know if that's maybe just a bit more editing added on top but easy enough to make a a quick title effect in the video software and just have an image library for the paints to slot into it and chuck it on the timeline.

Really amazing tutorial that taught me some useful techniques, especially with the washes, that I wasn't aware of. Just started painting my first army and it's rough as I can't even manage to thin my paints properly every time yet resulting in lost time repeatedly dipping. That and I need a wet palette methinks.

There are plenty of KZbinrs that will go into oil paints for weathering, or use some sort of weathering powder but they all seem unnecessarily complicated. Your approach with washes/shades provides exactly the effect I am looking for. It still looks like a model kit and the weathering is not overdone. Those oil washed models sometimes look like a mess but not in a good way. Your model on the other hand looks cleanly painted, despite being weathered, if that makes sense. I will give it a try on some est models and than apply it to the big guys.
@fateweaver98442 жыл бұрын

I've found that regular vallejo model colours work well with the airbrush. I just put in a combo of flow improver, thinner and medium and it covers very closely to the model air colours. You wind up saving a bit on paint costs in the long run. This is excellent work though.
