It’s nice to see a legit painter on YT spreading knowledge and giving an understanding of how your actually supposed to do it.

That turned out killer. My favorite part is how you threw alil of the bottom color on the grill trim.

You start with P80 grit,what is the finish grit before epoxy?
@cliff_hatch3r Жыл бұрын
Nothing else. Just used P80 grit. Sometimes, I'll go over it with P180, but i didn't feel the need to with these

@@cliff_hatch3r I've never painted over chrome, so there are no sanding scratches finishing off in 80?
@cliff_hatch3r Жыл бұрын
@Jr_Rod18 I haven't had a problem with the sand scratches coming back thru. You can go over it with 180 if you want, but even after sanding with 80, it feels smooth
@Whitening98 Жыл бұрын
@@cliff_hatch3r thanks I'm def gonna try it!
@cliff_hatch3r Жыл бұрын
@Jr_Rod18 makes sure it cleaned really good and you use an etch or epoxy primer before you paint

You can paint it , but it won't last. I have been in the Collision repair business for 50 years, first of all that piece of plastic was dipped to chrome it. you are taking off the crome by mechanical adhesion, but you are not removing all of it. There lies the problem. by using 80 grit you are exposing the raw plastic in spots. yes in the beginning it will adhere. give it two to five years it will be peeling off.
@delta8515 Жыл бұрын
The bumper is 100% stainless steel no plastic except for the caps
@cliff_hatch3r Жыл бұрын
I dont believe you're right. When prepping the chrome plastics, I never cut it down to the plastic. I cut down to the copper coating in spots on the edges, that's it. I'm not taking the chrome off im just scuffing it up. I feel like if the parts peel, it will be because the chrome failed, not my paint. I've been painting chrome this way for years and never had any of my jobs come back. So I feel pretty confident in my work that I won't have any problems. If I have a problem, I'll make a video on it lol.

[ gotta find the tips and tricks of removing chrome from plastic. Chemicals thats remove it’s nice. From the bumpers it’s a different story. ]
