But if you had to add the cheat coat to balance out the black plastic and the primed piece why not just prime both to match? @@ThePaintPaperHustle
@ThePaintPaperHustle
@ThePaintPaperHustle Жыл бұрын
You absolutely can. But primer is more expensive than scrap base coat that’s left over. So it’s simply cutting coat and time bc then that primer would also need sanding before paint meaning more time.

Every product is different so you need to refer to that products tech sheet to see if it needs hardeners or reducers and what the ratios are. Besides that it’s the same steps as in this video. Good luck

@ThePaintPaperHustle
@ThePaintPaperHustle 8 ай бұрын
Personally if you have it I’d try it. Just let the primer dry for a few days before painting over top of. But if you don’t want to risk it then a quart of 2k primer shouldn’t be much at all
@blue4democracy

Thank you for this video!! I'm watching it about 4 days late (I now have a crappy paint job to sand down and retry, lol). I was wondering if there is a clear-coat in a rattle can that you recommend? I'm just an owner looking to save a little cash. I want it to look nice and stand the test of time, but I don't have a big paint-gun like that to use.
@ThePaintPaperHustle
@ThePaintPaperHustle 9 ай бұрын
If I was to use rattle can clear it’d be a 2k rattle can clear. Any brand as long as it’s a 2k clear which would probably need to be ordered online unless you have a local paint supplier that sells them

Hi Courtney, this is my first comment/question ( I've enjoyed the channel for a couple months now however) so a question on guide coat that I've never understood : I always see painters apply guide coat entirely uneven (like stripes or some range of an irregular pattern) why isn't guide coat laid down in one even coat? That would then allow you to see the dings or high spots as you sand over it. I'm assuming that you are still able to see the highs or lows but I just don't understand why a guide coat wouldn't be laid down in one even layer instead of a random stripes pattern. I love the channel. I appreciate your positive attitude about what happened with your coyote motor at TKM. I just fired up my ZL1 project motor and was anxiously checking oil pressure!! Thank you Robert B.
@ThePaintPaperHustle
@ThePaintPaperHustle 2 жыл бұрын
Robert ok first off thanks a ton for watching and thanks for asking the question as that’s exactly what I want this channel to do is help others. So my first question is have you used guide coat? If you have not then I think using it as we show you’ll quickly see works. Here’s why. Everyone just dust it all over the place bc it puts small dots literally everywhere. If you look closely when I show this in this video you’ll see that the black is all over the place. When you sand primer with guide coat the primer quickly turns as clean and pure as clean white snow but light grey lol. So it’s super easy to see where there’s still guide coat being it goes all over the place in a fine mist. Applying it in even patterns won’t hurt anything at all so feel free to do so. However don’t waste it as it’s not dirt cheap. I think using it you’ll see it just takes a fast dusting. Next time you use it on primer try half in even pattern and over half just dusted quickly all over and see what you think. Lastly I’m glad you checked oil pressure lol. I wish I would of known to not trust the gauge and also feel oil pan for heat as Kevin did at TKM to prove hot oil was flowing. It’s going to be a very expensive mistake on my part that I’ll hopefully never make again. Thanks so much for watching it means a ton!

Thank you that makes sense now! and no I've never painted anything except with a rattle can(I'm pretty good with a rattle can by the way Lol) I'm a dentist with 6 kids and I have built a few motors but never painted anything. I am however fascinated by paint and body professionals like you and I feel like I would totally enjoy painting like you someday! Thank you for your videos! I love them!

If you’re good with a can then you can handle this. I enjoy my style painting bc it’s stress free. I don’t normally do big high end paint jobs where I have to worry about trash or quality I just paint and have fun doing it. From time to time we do high end work but they are never fun as a good ole salvage title flip car.

U saying how much that color was made me think of the history of fords mystichrome paint at one it was really expensive and a dealer rep had to come out and open it for u to use and cap it up and would take the rest of what wasn't used thay wouldn't let u keep it so others wouldn't have the color code to copy it and thay got there's a gt40 online that has a level 5 of the color the paint cost more than the car it's crazy

Confused. You state that you don't primer the grill because it will add thickness. Then you add a layer of throw away paint to get a closer colour match. Won't it add the same thickness you are seeking to avoid? Appreciate the content. Subscribed.

@johnniemo only to save money. If I use old scrap paint that’s close to the same color then it takes less paint of the correct color that I have to buy which saves me a lot per year.
