I show a few tips on the things I look for and change as I work from a reference photo. Including how shadows work from left to right in a painting.
** Now selling my paintings on Ebay **

Featuring new music by Antonio Romo.
"Understand me", "The tide of times"', "why now"and "Beyond"'

MATERIALS:
PEN: The Uni-ball deluxe micron roller ball pen .5mm nib. These pens are extremely waterproof on my papers and can be painted over immediately. The roller ball is almost indestructible and claims to be archival.
PAPER: Size- 5"x7"
Arches 140lb Hot Press Paper for this Video.
My papers of choice include Arches 140lb Hot press and Cold press paper and Strathmore 500 series Sketchbooks. All are 100% cotton rag.
For beginners, I recommend starting with a high quality paper and experimenting with different types. As your style develops, you'll get a feel for which type is best. Waiting to switch to a better quality paper later will be much like learning to paint all over again.
MY PALETTE: All tube paints!
Winsor Newton- Yellow Ochre, Sepia, Burnt Sienna, Winsor Red, Davy's Gray, Ultramarine, Sap Green.
DaVinci - Phthalo Blue, Quinachridone Fuchsia, Cadmium Yellow Lemon, Cadmium Yellow Deep. *I plan to replace the Fuchsia with Winsor Newton Quinacridone Magenta when mine runs out.*
MIXING PALETTE:
The palette is the mixing tray from a "Koi" Watercolour travel set. The colours are set up so the ones I mix together most often are close together.
BRUSH:
A Polar Flo 1/2 inch flat brush is my current favorite. The bristle were originally white but have become stained.
An inexpensive, Curry's brand, #3 brush.

I am starting out on this water colour journey and I watch so many artists. This is what i want to do most, line and wash. I am learning the most from you, Mr Sheeler! I will try and develop my own style, but very much grounded in your work. Absolutely delightful!

I just love how the shadows transform a painting. Magical.

I love how you allowed yourself to deviate from the reference photo for your own purposes of proportion and tone. Some shadows in the reference photo are difficult to understand but are rationalised in your piece. I've always wanted to work with pen and watercolour and you've inspired me. Your use of line work and contour on these small scale pieces exude the confidence of a master graphic artist.

I'm looking forward to attempting this after watching this twice. I have been so happy to discover your videos, Peter. It's been a delight to follow your pen an ink wash videos. You provide all the information especially on colors and brushes so that I finally have some success, and it's been fun this long cold winter in Maine. This has helped me to feel more confident towards using my own photos.

Amazing. Again. Your ability to simplify complex shadows - - - their depths - - - their lengths - - colors - - -their brightness - - - just amaze me. You do it to perfection in the blink of an eye... and they dominate in the subtlest of ways. Love your work.

Peter ; Very nice rendering , by the time you were near finished , I could have sworn I felt a bit of a chill in the air , but that's impossible since I live in south west Florida , Venice , and though it's September 12th. by about 3:30 pm. today it was reading -99 f. in the shade on our southern porch . SO it was just all in my head , or your talent , or maybe that music you were playing . I've decided , against my better judgment to add you to my subscription list I have with You[Tube] , I've already given you a thumbs up . Adding you to my list of subscriptions brings me up to a cool 353 . Good luck with your work , and by the way , is there a chance you might offer some of your art work for sale ? Couldn't hurt to ask . Jack
