Push saturation by +18. 1:55:57 - (L15) Layer 9 copy 2, Smudge tool, change strength to 35 for lighter and 50 percent for darker, smudge in fur texture into painting by dragging it. Make another copy. 1:58:38 - (L16) Layer 9 copy 3, Dodge, Get air brush, change opacity to 9%, change "mode" to "color dodge," enlarge brush, change color to reddish yellow, very light. @@MaZEEZaM Well. There's usually a Save Incremental alternative that saves in a separate file each time. Usually, how many versions saved is selectable in settings. I don't have photoshop open right now but I think there is one there as well. That would protect from saving fecked up versions at least a little bit. :)

You're picking colors so correctly and so easily, Aaron :) I can't pick a proper colors when I am coloring drawings, so I am drawing each different color in it's own layer and then changing them tons of times until I will be satisfied XD I wish I could train my eyes to pick colors so quickly and nicely like you do one day...

once I saw another tutorial on how you could get better at color picking: get a reference photo and instead of picking color with eyedropper tool, you use your eyes and pick the color from your color wheel. Then compare the color value you've picked against the original color from your reference. You'll achieve accuracy pretty fast.

Alyssa Hansen it is excellent! While it is not an anatomy course (if that’s what you’re looking for), Aaron Blaise is very thorough in helping you understand how to draw the animals and what is under the fur that is important for drawing them. If that makes sense. He breaks down each animal by section, Head, body, paws in individual videos and then goes further into how to do gesture drawings with each and even locomotion of the animal. I would highly recommend any of his animal courses, he is such a great teacher. They are well worth the price and that goes especially for Wolves, Coyotes and Foxes.

drawing fur is quite fun if you know how to do it . My technique is similar BUT , I include in some parts some blurred areas over which I draw clean fur lines. This way , it gives the illusion of fluffy fur in the back. This I do especially on the edges.. because Fur is somehow blurry and gives a more realistic look.

Hi Aaron. The reason wolves and dogs differ so much in behavior is that the wolves we have today are not the ancestors of our dogs. It was a different kind of wolf that evolved into dogs. The wolf is a separate species (even if they can have cubs together) and they are a lot alike. I found this out a few months ago and I always believed they where descendant from the same species but nope. No matter they are wonderful animals and my favorite wild animal and I draw them a lot ^^.

First off, I really appreciate this video. The patient and detailed instruction, the expert execution, this is top notch all around. Thank you thank you thank you. I’m not only subscribing but I will encourage others to do likewise. All that said, here is the slightest suggestion for a near perfect videotape for people who are really trying to improve like myself: I think it is extremely important to show your viewer student your reference with regularity. I watch an embarrassing number of these videos. I’m not suggesting you clutter the screen with a thumbnail of the reference photo which takes the notion too far. But it is an absolute must for your viewer/student to see what you see as a reference. Perfectly understood 100% that you are not merely reproducing the photo. But we still need to see that reference with regularity. Thank you for this awesome video!

Thank you, Aaron. Great tutorial on fur texture. I noticed you used an overlay with a yellow color, that went over top of the shadows on the fur. Wow, how that overlay reacted to the shadows, you were literally making fur pop out with every stroke. And I noticed the dark background contrasted with the grey yellow for under the mouth, literally gave that color a lighter value. Seems to me, that it was similar to the effect of a checkerboard with white and black, but with shadow on the board a grey square looks white! Awesome technique. Thanks!!!!

My only fixation was that the bottom jaw (including tongue, jowls and teeth, just the whole bottom part) was slightly too big. I couldn’t stop seeing it. But it’s an awesome drawing and helpful video. When you zoomed out it was better, maybe I’m just crazy but I can’t stop seeing it xD

28:40 so why is it that when my strokes overlap, the overlapped portion darkens, but not when Aaron's strokes overlap here?

Most likely the brush you're using has settings that cause it to darken when overlapped/layering colours. What program do you use?

@@aileenusmaximus Photoshop, same as Aaron Blaise. What setting might cause this?

Great video, I learned a lot. Let me first say that I could not draw a stickman if my life depended on it but I am a great critique. I was sitting there waiting for the wolf to get some whiskers and was greatly relieved when they were finally added. Just, my wish for some blurring in the contrast between light and dark in the ruff did not come through. It still looks like a stylist gone crazy with the scissors.
