Let me know what you think of the chipping. Needs to be more varied / finer I think, but does look a bit better in person than zoomed in on screen

I think they look good, especially when you factor in playing at actual arms length.

That's the best way to judge gaming models! It's easy to get too focussed on making everything as good as you can... so it takes forever or never gets finished! Thanks for the comments, will check out your channel :)

The more I'm working on the set (slowly!) the more I'm appreciating how good the sculps and production was, considering it's 30 years old they're pretty good

Thanks dude, appreciate the comments. Yeh on the game board all those slightly heavy chips will look fine, all the 'mistakes' jump out when viewed super close up on cam. Pleased with the armour, and the best part is that its super easy to do

Thanks! Gretchins up next. They're taking while but I'm pleased with how they're coming along. Space Crusade was my first intro to gaming as a kid so I've got a big soft spot for it!

Im not a fan of grimdark. I always want my models to look crisp and clean and new. But boy, you have sold me on this.. And when you see him on the board at the end - Perfect!
@NoProcrastinationMiniatures2 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks man! To make them a bit cleaner you'd just need to cover a bit more of the model at each step with the yellow mixes, leaving very little of the original xv88 undercoat, it'll reduce the grimy look that comes mainly from the brown showing through
@mrg20392 жыл бұрын
Looks good. They aren't easy miniatures too make look nice. I had space crusade as a kid and just bought it again to play with my kids. Not sure I dare paint them though. Think I might paint up some modern alternatives and leave the originals as they are.
@NoProcrastinationMiniatures2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! It took me a fair while to decide to paint them, I kept thinking that it's survived 30years in almost 'as new' condition so I shouldn't snip / glue / paint. Decided to just do it but to make sure I finish the project to a decent level so I don't feel bad about defacing it! Proxying some newer models is a good idea too.

i kinda used your technique in reverse, started with grey primer, then undercoat with burnt sienna, stippled averland sunset, then wash with reikland fleshshade, then stipple with averland with white
@NoProcrastinationMiniatures2 жыл бұрын
That sounds pretty similar except for leaving some black in the deepest recesses. I expect your approach is a bit quicker too at the start with not needing to work up from the black undercoat. Do you do an all over fleshade wash or just the recesses?
@kharnifex Жыл бұрын
@@NoProcrastinationMiniatures yeap it was overall, tbh the black in the deepest recess will look better imo

I'm going to use this technique on my normal space marine! It looks great!
@NoProcrastinationMiniatures2 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks! On newer space marines with 'knee pads' it'll be a bit easier to get a good highlight effect by making the top of the knee pads one of the areas to highlight well

Very good result in my humble opinion, I like your process. Your video quality is brilliant as well. I sometimes have oil washes dry glossy as well and put the paint on a piece of cardboard before mixing to get rid of excess oil. I find it helps but is not the only factor I guess.
@NoProcrastinationMiniatures2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind words. I got a fairly cheap Macro prime lens for my camera recently and it's really sharp. Pretty good for a (relatively) budget set up. I'm not an artist but have heard of oil paint artists soaking out the oil on some card first but wasn't sure if it would affect the consistency for washes. Good tip, I'll have to try that properly as it would definitely be pretty good to be able to control the gloss finish a bit more

Looks fantastic, do you think a standard wash thinned would work instead of an oil wash?
@NoProcrastinationMiniatures2 жыл бұрын
Not in exactly the same way, but something like snakebite leather contrast thinned down could work. It doesn't quite have the same effect, but I'll be keen ot know how you get on if you try something like a wash or contrast thinned. The main issue will be not being able to take it off like the oil. In my android video I compared the oil wash vs non-oil wash option
