1:00 - I did this in my kitchen (intentionally). I used a lighter blue-grey on the wall facing the window, and a shade darker blue-grey on the kitchen interior where I have my cabinets, countertops & appliances (all brushed chrome / dark grey / matte black). The corner where these colors meet, it's almost imperceptible thanks to a doorway. The appearance this gives is a naturally bright room overall, with a very comfortable and complementary winter color scheme without excessive contrast.

Great video Jeff! Two questions related to some of your talking points in the video: 1a. How do you feel about some of the other paint technologies like Pearl and Satin finishes (for trim/doors) from a durability standpoint? I know Semi-Gloss is the "tried and true" but sometimes find it to be still too glossy. 1b. Do you recommend sticking with Eggshell for Kitchens, Bath, and other high humidity/spill-prone locations or just ensure you get 100% Acrylic and choose your finish to taste? I know things like Benjamin Moore Aura Bathroom comes in just Matte and offers a great finish (we have it currently in our one bathroom). 2. To get an even more razor finish on baseboards, casing, and other trim, do you recommend to ever pre-paint the entire pieces before air nailing them into place on the wall? And then just coming back with caulk and/or paint to hide all the nail holes? I would assume one would simply need to exercise just a little more caution and patience during install so as to not mar the painted pieces... Cheers!

Just in case you didn’t see my project suggestion, I’m pasting it here at the top. Have you ever done interlocking weatherstripping? It’s the best weatherstripping I’ve ever seen. My father had it done years ago by a professional and it blocked out all the weather with no rubber strips to wear out. It involves installing an aluminum strip on all edges of the door and also the door frame. I checked KZbin and no one has posted a video completely explaining how to do this. With your ability to teach so well, I thought this would be a great project that everyone could use. It just seems to be a lost art because it involves cutting grooves into the door to install the aluminum strips. Have you ever seen this? Hopefully I explained it well enough.

True with criticizing work, framed art for a while for my grandparents who did some of the best work in the industry. I see the work other people do and try to keep quiet. Noticed a piece at a tattoo shop, I noticed the framing on it and had a feeling it was my grandparents. Sure enough it was one of the last jobs my grandfather did.

I do this using a regular 3/8 nap roller that has most of the paint rolled out of it already. What happens is the roller wool flattens out and prevents paint from getting on the other wall for an outside corner. The trick is to know exactly how much paint you have in the roller and how hard you're pressing. Works every time for me.

Wire brush. Lay the brush on a flat hard surface and only ever wire brush it away from the handle as to not damage the bristles. Use water and dish soap if it's a water-based paint or paint thinner if it's an oil-based paint. If it's a shellac use ammonia.

Is the acrylic content similar to acrylic art/craft paints? I had a high school art teacher drill into us to "never rinse acrylic paint out of a brush with hot water" because it would, according to him, begin to melt the acrylic content and you'd be left with hard plastic. So I've been scared to rinse a brush with anything but cool water. Seeing you use warm gave me flashbacks, haha. I'm happy to learn I don't have to freeze my hands when cleaning brushes.

I'm struggling with cutting corners. If I have to cut 8 feet, I do 6 feet good and then something bad happens... 😂 You need to release some merch like "And that's money in the bank" or "Resist the temptation" or "This is madness"

Not sure if you’ll get this being that it a year old, but…I live in the Pacific Northwest and for some dumb reason every house built here has this texture called Orange Peel. I am pretty sure that sanding that wall would pretty much mess them up. Any words of wisdom for me? Thanks and awesome video.

Wow thank you!!! Subscribed even though I’m a DYI hime owner and Pro photographer. So questions? Egg Shell does come 100% acrylic? Also My wife wants the ceiling the same color as walls, a very soft light off white. I did this precious using eggshell and the vaulted ceiling shows dark wide feathered lines at the studs. Is it OK to get ask for tinted ceiling paint mix same color ceiling flat paint? Thank you again. I don’t like painting but looking forward now to doing our interiors and getting a decent job with your training. Scott

I used flat paint on my ceilings and they are just awful to try to clean fly dirt off. So I did my living area over again in a semi gloss and I'm so pleased with it. The room is so much lighter and it's so much easier to clean. I know it goes against all advice but I guess it comes down, in the end, to what makes you happy. The bathroom ceiling has flaked and peeled in two places and I worked so hard to get it right by buying paint especially for the bathroom, carefully cleaning and undercoating. Grrr. Next time I won't bother with the expensive paints. Maybe I did something wrong along the way but what a pain. It feels like I'm on a treadmill. Ceilings are not fun!!!
