My favorite trick when taking massive shortcuts is to start with a fun hue or two and slapchop before the layers. ProAcryl khaki over the right brown, followed by skeleton bone hands you a deserty, well toned baseline for highlights for Tomb Kings. I bet we could do similar trickery with cold colors, probably switching to the xpress bone color, which is quite a bit colder than skeleton bone. Either way Vince'ss layering is on point, you might just need less

You mentioned the difference between warm and cold bone and starting with brown, would you still use the same buildup colours and yellow secret sauce with that or is there an alternative you’d recommend as secret sauce on brown-based bone?

its interesting when a hobby cheating vid comes out that is perfect for what i plan to work on soon. I'll be working on some Spires for Conquest which has a ton of bone armor/weapons. I was planning to have more dirty bone for the drones to more bright ivory/white with the highborne models.

@ruberiusgadget7952 ай бұрын
Hi! Thanks for this great video. Awesome how the bones come out❤. But by watching this video they came some questions in my mind 1. How i paint bones from a bog man? 2. How i paint sun bleached bone? 3. How i pain rotten/moosy/dirty/swampy bones? 4. How i paint frozen bones?
@VinceVenturellaАй бұрын
1) Add more greens and browns. 2) More yellows and bright whites. 3) As above, more greens and such. 4) More blues and grey tones.

Unbelieveable timing. I've just started a Bonereaper army and have been somewhat unsatisfied with the bone speedpaints. Looks like it's going to be layering instead. ProAcryl isn't widespread where I live, and both Red Grey and Green Grey are a little tricky to color match. Do you have any suggestions on good substitutes from the more common ranges for those two colors?

Hey! I’m the guy you helped with the KDM diorama. I love this, Perfect values and color choices. One thing I will say is that for me, I feel like it’s too smooth. I like more noise… almost like painting leather. More dots and spots and so on… Thoughts?
@VinceVenturella2 ай бұрын
Absolutely, I think that is very valid for sure, I like some noise through hashes, scractches, dashes and dots as well. In this scale, it can be a little harder to portray, but still completely good. I just went a little mroe smooth here as I think both can certainly work.

Fantastic as usual. How would you approach something like dead eyes? That is to say, eyes in an individual who has lost their sight/had their sight stolen. Not sure how else to phrase it or describe it.
@VinceVenturella2 ай бұрын
If there are eyeballs, making them grey with some deep grey around the edges. Then a fine white dot for the light reflection.
@Bobomberman2 ай бұрын
Awesome! Just got into this hobby as a whole this year (and AoS even more recently) and my army I’m slowly trying to paint is OBR. I’m going for a very bleached/polished bone, so a really crisp clean Bone White. What colors could I utilize to maintain that clean color while still generating interest outside of just black to grey to white?
@VinceVenturella2 ай бұрын
Try some very light blue and light green mixed with your white to give it a bit of interest. You can use the pastel colors to modulate the white and still be clean.
@Bobomberman2 ай бұрын
I’ll give it a shot, thanks so much for the reply 😁

Great video as always! Question: im wondering what the difference would be if instead of applying the sephia/yellow glaze at the end we would mix a little sephia/orange tone to our mid colour during the original progression. It would get a bit of hue just to the mid tones. But then sometimes i see that glazing/filter something upon a colour gives slightly different results compare to mixing it to that colour
@VinceVenturella2 ай бұрын

Wow, this is incredible! Thx for this video! So you usually glaze towards the highlights with a different glaze than towards the base colours/shadows. How do I know what colours work for other base colours/structures/other than bone? Is it experimentation or can I for example try complementary colours?

I was wondering if its possible to paint armor in a brushed aluminum/steel style? if so, would you please consider making a video on how to do it? I feel like the details on a miniature are too small for the brushed aluminum effect to translate well, looking like a weird cammo pattern or battle damage rather than the small differences of the brushed aluminum texture, i've been considering the approach for a while but i cant come up with a technique or painting approach that would lead to a brushed aluminum effect. Thanks in advance.
