Hey guys 👋 I should’ve mentioned this in the video, my bad. Just wanted to credit Likelihood Art as I was HEAVILY inspired by one of her pieces of work when creating the dude in the thumbnail. She’s an amazing artist and you should go give her a follow if you don’t already❤️ Check Out Likelihood Art's work: KZbin: www.youtube.com/@LikelihoodArt/videos Instagram: instagram.com/likelihood_art/ Twitter: twitter.com/likelihood_art

I almost screamed when you talked about edge control. A LOT of people jump this and it's one of my main issues. Also what kind of brush do you use on edges, Idk if it's me but when I use my soft brush it's not a stable, my pressure makes it have some darker spots. Still getting the hang of it
@digitalmagician8 ай бұрын
I usually just use one of the default hard round brushes that come with photoshop. Then if I want to smooth things up a bit I use a soft round brush that has a bit of a grainy texture. You’ll start to get use to it eventually, just keep at it 😊

So art has never been my thing, and I never cared about it. But this year, since I was really unproductive, I decided to do something with my life and try to gain the skill. My main goal is to draw decent stylized people digitally. I started with animals, and although I improved quickly, I swiftly hit a wall which I just couldn't get past. So I braved it and started drawing humans, I even bought Procreate for maximum results. And.. I'm improving again! Results are a little slow but there's definitely some learning going on, and I'm happy wifh my progress. I'm undoubtably still a beginner, but I try to draw daily. Your viddos have been extremely helpful because they inspire me and make me think "hey, maybe if I practice enough, I can get to that guy's level". I'm surprised you're not more popular. Thanks for the opportunity and inspiration. And if you have any words of advice for a beginner, shoot!
@digitalmagician7 ай бұрын
It’s great to hear you’ve taken an interest in art! Having something to focus some of your time and energy on every day, working towards being a little bit better at each day can give you a great sense of purpose and achievement. As far as advice is concerned: Be patient with yourself. Progress won’t be constant, there will be slow periods. Focus on enjoying the process of learning. Avoid constantly comparing yourself to others. You can use other people’s work as something to strive towards but don’t allow yourself to become upset because you’re not at their level yet. Draw things because you have a genuine interest in them, not because you feel like you have to. And finally, I’d say the most important thing of all is to just maintain a positive, chill attitude. Don’t be overly attached to your work, at the end of the day it’s about having an enjoyable experience drawing ✍️

eyy just a reminder to beginner artists (expanding on the vid's point of speed): everyone's pace differs. you're not a bad artist because it took you 5 days or more to finish your artwork. speed is not the sole determinator that you're a pro artist either, there's a lot of other factors involved there (years of practise, solid muscle memory & mastery of fundamentals, honed eye for personal aesthetics etc). a complete beginner can finish a weird looking doodle in 5 secs and a pro can make a minimalist doodle just as fast, but the speed isn't the point. it's the result, and the journey it took you there. take your time, learn to have fun & experiment with parts of the process

idk if you're still responding to comments on this video, but I have a question: how do you know which edges to soften/blur, or to keep sharp? (this is for edge control)
@digitalmagician5 ай бұрын
It depends on how harsh or soft your lighting is and how angular or soft the features of the face you’re painting is. If you have a strong light source shining above someone you’re going to get sharper edges especially in places like under the nose and chin because they’ll cast strong shadows. If the light source is softer you’ll get softer edge transitions. The more prominent a feature on a face is the less you have to soften it. For example if someone has very strong cheekbones, you can keep that part of the face a bit more sharp. If you’re painting someone who is a bit more chubby, then you’re going to soften the edges out a bit more in their cheeks. I recommend using photo reference if you’re not already to help you decide how soft or sharp your edge transitions are.
