Faces can add a lot to a miniature, normally I choose helmets for better realism, but if the figure is on the rest logically the helmet is removed. Faces are normally seen on fantasy/civilian figs, I use a White/light grey base, followed by flesh color+ a bit of flesh wash, then highlights and a little wash of Red Gore. Naturally this works for caucasians, for other skin types one as to adapt.

This is exactly how I do my faces too. Contrasts are a godsend. I have a lot of helmet less Stormcast Eternals and they look great. I will also shy away from painting eyes or the whites of eyes as they can look derpy. We mostly look at models from above so eyes are not the focus, I would rather a dark eye and let your imagination fill in the rest. Look forward to the rest of the skin series ✌

Thanks for this Vid! What is particularly important for me is showing the names the colours when you use them. Many of us may have issues with shades of some colours and I think its important not to mess them up when it comes to faces ;)

As every noob, I hated painting skin at first (that was like a year before contrast came out). After a while it literally became my favourite part of painting. Sometimes I paint heads for my heavily armoured models and then get bored with the rest.

Hahhaha that’s interesting. And that’s a common mistake painters make is painting the most fun part first. That should be the reward at the end.

I use a really easy and amazing scheme for light skin tones, it is a white prime, a coat or two of Vallejo's Panzer Aces Highlight Flesh, then I finish it off with Army Painter Speedpaint Crusader Skin. It ends up looking pretty good, much better than just using a white or zenithal prime without much extra effort. No layering needed really, just just wipe away excessive pooling of Speedpaint and you're good. The Highlight Flesh color really helps in giving those highlight of the face /skin without much work at all, it is fairly similar to what Duncan Rhodes did but I find using Highlight Flesh helps in removing the need for extra highlighting since it shines though much more on various edges (and you get more paint for less money which was the main reason I got it).

Awesome video again. Faces can be daunting. But I'm a huge fan of facing ones fears, so I clipped out ~20 Dark Eldar Wyches faces I had on a sprue somewhere and just started by experimenting a lot with different techniques for the skin tone or simply practicing 40 eyes helped. And yeah, the ones with the Guillimen's Flesh method turned out best. I usually drill heads and super glue a tooth pick to it for easy accessibility and those 20 Wych heads are still on their tooth picks. Was a great feeling just to practice and not needing to ace them for models. But a lot of them turned out great so as soon I build a Dark Eldar Kill Team, I will use them.

Thank you so much pal. The zenithal is a spray that’s from the top pointing down and a angle. So the under parts of the model don’t get is much spray so you get some nice shadow effect before the contacts goes on.

Yes, a Sisters of Battle head will definitely be used, maybe one or two other female heads as well, if there's any specific requests, let me know and I'll slot them in! Female heads can be a bit harder depending on the sculpt! Good tip is to practice heads on some spruces as you build confidence!
