Very good , and what a superb distribution of the elements on the board .The diferents tonalities of greens and browns , great! And profesional , never the less the amount of unnecessary detail such as boats foliage and the reflections of the water around the boats, too much !! you leave no imagination to the viewer to finish your art work . Congratulations

Thanks Rodrigo. The reason I painted all this is because the locals where I live will see this painting and the hill itself is under threat from destruction for a proposed development. I wanted to paint it whilst I still can.

Seeing and hearing the steps of your process really helps me feel less overwhelmed when starting a landscape painting. Start with block in and end with the fine deltails. It's so obvious but yet I often need to remind myself of it. Great work as always!
@SamuelEarpArtist4 жыл бұрын
Thanks John, yeah I always try to keep it simple, dark values first, then I block in the painting so I can see the overall tonality of the painting before I proceed to the next stage. I don't worry about detail in the block-in stage. I build up the detail as I work through the painting. I save my fine details and lightest tones until the very end of the painting 😀

Very beautiful work,Why do u use cobalt teal so much , what is so special about this color? Very costly and made by limited companies only
@SamuelEarpArtist4 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much. Cobalt teal is a turquoise blue that creates nice tones for grass and water and it is convenient to use throughout your painting. You can make a colour similar to cobalt teal with ultramarine blue, phthalo green and titanium white 😀

Great video Sam!! I got a lot out of it as I have been struggling with foliage when painting outside. This helps...u. blue, yellow oxide (ochre), burnt sienna, titanium white...repeat with magenta and cobalt teal mixed in. My most recent efforts come home and just look like a flat mess!! Gonna try some artistic CPR thanks to your inspiration. Question...are the main set of brushes you use hog hair, synthetic? What brand are they? Do you use combos of both? I feel like I have been fighting with my brushes as of late. Thanks for the video
@SamuelEarpArtist4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Bruce. I mostly use hogs hair brushes and use the synthetic brushes for fine detail. I am using Rosemary and Co. brushes. Here is the link to their website, they ship worldwide: www.rosemaryandco.com/

Sam why 8 by 10? So small. I’ve painted portraits for 15 years , landscapes only recent. I’m also growing my hair with the CV how long does it take to get pony tail?
@SamuelEarpArtist4 жыл бұрын
I think 8" x 10" is a great size for plein air painting and my pochade box is designed to store 8" x 10" paintings. I've had long hair since I was 18. I cut it all off when I was 32 but then grew it again a few years ago, mainly cause I couldn't be bothered to get a hair cut, also my girlfriend likes my long hair. A good couple of years of hair growth and you should be able to tie it back! 😀 ....oh, and I also listen to metal!!!!!!
