Sam, would you be kind to tell us, substitutes colors for Cadmium Yellow and cobalt teal, because just those two, come around $60 (the cheapest). At the moment I am not confident enough, (and so, I often just give up out of frustration), to make, the spending of $60 for two tiny tubes of paint worth it. You are one of the few on the whole KZbin world that actually shares by teaching art and painting for passion and Love and NOT JUST TO MAKE MONEY!
@SamuelEarpArtist3 жыл бұрын
Hello, it’s not essential you use cobalt teal, you can use phthalo green instead but obviously use much less of it. You could talk to your local art store about using an alternative to cadmium yellow, however whilst you do pay more for cadmium yellow I have found that a tube lasts a long time 😊

Sir I have problem in choosing correct colour which makes painting realistic.
@SamuelEarpArtist4 жыл бұрын
My advice is to use a limited palette as this will help you to understand colours better, also pay attention to your values (how light or dark a subject is). Values are more important than colours. Getting the values right will help you to create realistic paintings 😊

@amandajohnson32943 жыл бұрын
Thank you Sam, I really appreciate your videos, I'm learning so much from you. My biggest problem is overpainting. Trying to add too much detail. My question is that in a previous video, you mentioned you were in your cold studio. I use a summer house at the bottom of my garden and it's freezing in winter. Is it recommended to bring in paint and canvases over winter? I'm worried they will get damaged by the cold and I cannot afford to get the room insulated yet.
@SamuelEarpArtist3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Amanda. I think that was one of my older videos when I was living in Queenstown in southern New Zealand. It's much colder down there and the building where my art studio was, was not well insulated and got very cold in winter. I'm not sure if the cold would damage your canvases or not, it didn't do any harm to my paintings. Do you heat your summer house when painting in there in winter? 😊
@amandajohnson32943 жыл бұрын
@@SamuelEarpArtist Hi Thanks for replying. This will be my first winter with the summer house aka art studio....had it built in July for my birthday... never thought about the cold. Not had snow in Derbyshire for 4 years...I'm hoping to get it insulated and get a heater next year. I have to add that I love your videos... purchased two.... learning to paint much better and freely. 😄

Nice job, Sam! I'd like to see you paint one a larger sky area--I'd be curious to see how you'd handle an expanse of blue sky higher up. Also, how about one with a completely different palette?

I noticed you don’t use burnt umber is there a reason why you have burnt sienna instead?
@SamuelEarpArtist3 жыл бұрын
Hi Alan, I find burnt umber to be a bit of a dirty colour. Burnt sienna is a much more versatile colour than burnt umber in my opinion. Burnt sienna is also a dark orange so it combines nicely with ultramarine blue, it’s colour opposite on the colour wheel 😀
@allenvoss79773 жыл бұрын
@@SamuelEarpArtist Yeah that makes sense I add burnt Siana to my palette too, but I like to use burnt umber to create my darks though. with ultramarine I find it Creates a versatile black. Anyway, Both colors are extremely important for a limited palate for sure.

@@SamuelEarpArtist hey one more thing. I hate to be a nuisance to you but is there anyway you can look at my work on Instagram and give me any tips? How do you paint a sunny distant gras in oil Thank you for your help
@SamuelEarpArtist2 жыл бұрын
Hi Othman, a good question. Keep in mind that green as a wavelength doesn't travel well over long distances so the chroma of the colour will drop out. You will need to mix a low chroma (desaturated) green. Yellow ochre, ultramarine blue, titanium white and a little alizarin crimson is a good colour combination for painting distant grass 😊

Understandable, the ad parts in your videos are not annoying and are honest (can't say the same for most other people on youtube). You and Andrew Tischler have the best oil painting channels on youtube. I really like watching them and they inspired me to paint as well in my free time.
