you say to remove the tape when the paint in wet , but if you put 2nd coute , you can leave the tape on the surface with the first coute to dry and remove it on the second coute ?

we are told to just use a sponge and not tape for drips, in the past we used tape, so I guess I am forced to do this differently. no knee pads, what a beast. you should save your knees though, if you have the $ to, they are cheap.

MY trim is new from the installers but just has the undercoat I needed to know how to paint the moulding around the window I don't need baseboards as just had them replaced and the contractor painted them but I am doing the windows myself.

Priming is usually a preference rather than a requirement; however, if you are going from a dark to light color or vice versa, a primer wouldn't hurt to make sure your paint color comes through correctly.

Hello, great video! I'm re-painting over my trim that's very banged up in spots. Some spots have alot of knicks, scrapes. Do I use wood filler or a spackle & what grit sandpaper is best to sand it? Is it best to prime over the places where I use filler or just a couple coats of paint? It's white & repainting white FYI. Thanks, appreciate all help!

Hi Mandy, It depends. For deep nicks or gouges, they should be filled. As far as what to use, it depends on what the trim is made of. For light scrapes, a light sand and paint should cover them. It is always best to prime surfaces before painting.

It means don't let the paint dry then continue painting from a dry part.

I have delicate surface FrogTape. I’m painting 2 different colors. Metallic paint with an extender. How long should I wait, before applying the tape, to a freshly painted surface?

What kind of primer did you use? I used a Benjamin Moore oil based and it ruined my trim . Didn't go on smoothly like yours or cover as well. Thank you for the video!

You say that oil base paint ruined your trim did you sand the trim before you painted & did you prime the wood first? Latex will cause doors to stick especially on hot days I was thinking of using bear alklyn paint has blend mix of semi oil base with water base used it on my cabinets turned out nice but going to attempt to use it on my doors & stained door jambs white semi gloss over it which I already know it will take 2 coats of primer & two coats of paint using just brushes, the bear alklyn paint is self leveling & have more time to work with it then latex paints.

Should you remove the painters tape between coats? I’m skipping the primer and painting two layers of paint on my trim and walls. Also, how long should I wait between the two coats? Thanks!

Hi there! Ideally, the tape should be removed between coats, so your new paint does not dry over the tape edge, which could cause it to lift up with the tape. If you leave the tape on until the last coat, keep a utility knife handy if you need to break the seal between the new paint and the tape. It would be best to follow your paint guidelines for their recommendations on applying multiple coats.

Taped off the wall ? That tape will peal the wall paint off
