When my girls were younger I let them draw all over the walls in the hallway, with washable markers. (Which by the way some colors still stain, even on gloss) They did for a few weeks before getting bored. Then I repainted to a new color and tada, they got it out of their system and I got a new paint color throughout 😂

To the regular folks : Use a drop cloth! Especially if you’re going to use spray paint! You can see where he gets overspray on the floor.

Definitely. Also, you can now buy tape that has plastic sheeting attached, so you tape along the edge of the floor, then pull out the plastic sheeting. I use this and still put a drop cloth on top. Drips can go through even the heaviest drop cloth and mark your boards or carpet. Better safe than sorry. Attempting any painting without full coverage is insanity.

Just get a masking machine tape and paper in one works good I usually tape like he did first then go back with my masking gun jus for extra perfection

How much do you thin out the paint before you start painting or do you not thin out the paint at all?

Depends on if it is new or old and if you have crown molding, baseboards, chair rails, Wayne'scotting, bead board, and what color the walls are going to be. If it is old and I am remodeling I like to see what the edges and corners are like on the wall to trim and caulk everything first and the. Overlap with a super thick coat of good material on the wall and this leaves the corners nice and filled in. I will usually cut in the color and paint the ceiling first and overlap and make it super thick to make the corner filled in if there is no crown. This leaves me the ability to make a clean line either with tape or by hand but the main thing is running a thick coat of paint and primer first on the corner or edge to make it smooth and able to be cut in nicely after it dries really well. I just it by how nice the corners are. Sometimes I can just hand cut and sometimes it is better to tape and sometimes a little of both. Generally on a remodel or a repaint I paint the ceiling and put the paint on thick in the corners and it cleans up the corners good. I tape the floor off and paint the trim very heavy on top and over lap leaving the corner nice and smooth and a little rounded due to such thick paint, this leaves me a smooth rounded corner to make a straight line with and I tape it and do one thick coat of color after the trim dries proper or I do two light coats by hand it all depends on how it looks. If I am spraying I always do trim first and then tape off my trim and spray my color and pull the tape if it is new construction. If old I will use a shield if it has imperfect corners and edges. I may tape some parts and others use an edger or a shield. Also I will do the doors off and in the yard or garbage because where is no good way to paint a door properly when it is on the hinges and in its position where it lives. I attack things different with crown molding and chair rail involved and baseboards too. I will just spray all the trim with no tape or shield really except the bottom flooring will have tape and paper and top will just get overspray. I will then shield the crown and baseboards and trim around the door to put the color down and I pay it thick and in one coat many times. It all depends on if the corners and edges need to be fixed and how badly and if I think spraying or painting a thick coat in the corner will give it the filled in look to get a straight and even line on the next swipe with the other color. It is a judgement you have to make as a painter of the particular project you are on. Not all projects are going to be the same. Not one bit. But some will be similar.

If you have the time, this is a great method. My company wants us in and out quickly. We take it off paint it and use a nail gun to put it back on. I work for a cheap company, but the pay is great. Hate that we do it the way we do...

@@diypainting Oh wow, I've used the Dap Alex Ultra and that has a seal. Along with every other caulk I've ever used. Would you be able to give a list of caulks you like for dif. project types that all don't have seals. That could be a super useful list ! :)

Sorry but I was hoping you would have shown your method for removing the tape. Shucks, that’s what I was most interested in. Do you use an exacting knife or take your chances peeling it off? Definitely not a step to take lightly!

The key is to take it off pretty quick after painting before it has time to dry. Doing it that way along with pulling it up and away from the trim simultaneously and you’re good to go.

Definitely remove the tape as soon as the baseboard and wall are painted. Blue tape is great but regular tan masking tape will stick and leave a mess, especially if your paint is dried.

Tape carpet not floors... A rag and 3 inch knife for cleaning but you can paint the trim without waste of tape and time, I do anyways, carpet you use tape. You have a anal outlook in saving caulk and cutting your tip, yet practice the proper way to use your brush so you don't waste time and money...
